Dreaming Android Dreams

About two weeks ago my brother jumped into the pool with his dumbphone in his pocket. Of course it died and he's been wanting a replacement. I have been trying to talk him into getting the Dinc or the X, but he doesn't want to pay the $30 a month for data.

Anyway, last night I had a dream that he bought a multimedia phone and basically I was chasing him around telling him why he should exchange it for an Android phone.

I woke up this morning highly amused. It's pretty bad when you start dreaming about telling people why Android is so much better than almost everything else. :D

Lol! I know the feeling. When I started tinkering m with my moto droid, I had many dreams of it saving my life and doing super hero things.

Of course, when I get ready for a major audition, I'll dream that I'm playing the excerpts. Hey, I don't mind if I'm crazy, it's still extra practice!

I spent several hours yesterday playing on AppBrain trying to decide which apps I want to install when the phone gets here. Ended up dreaming about apps!

Of course, I am used to this. I play MMO's and I can't count the number of dreams I have had about EQ, EQ2, WOW, DDO, Aion, etc.

My god the good old WoW dreams. You know its a problem when you dream of grinding for gold or doing dailies...

Wow...that's almost as bad as the dreams I had when I was working for McDonalds.

I've had my incredible since launch day, and I love it so much that I've hardly used it the last couple of days. How is that? Well, I've spent the last 3 days writing a web app for it, using the google map api. It's been so many years since I've programmed - I only knew rudimentary html and had never used java. Took me awhile to figure out what to do, but I found several samples that each did a little of what I wanted and managed to put something together that works for me.

It was so much fun that I want to do another one, but I'm having trouble coming up with a good idea for something. This one is pretty simple, you can enter a lat/long, or click on the map, or use the internal sensor (it seems to use the network location, not the gps, which is annoying) and the app will return the street address AND the county, which is what I really wanted to know.

The one thing that's really annoying though, is that the android browser won't run an html file off of local storage properly. You can use Astro to browse to the file and open it in the browser, but it just displays and won't run the java script. In order to get it to work, I have to enter

content://com.android.htmlfileprovider/sdcard/foldername/filename.htm

in the browser address barand then back up and delete the http:// that the browser automatically adds. I can then save a bookmark and access it that way, but if I put the bookmark shortcut on my home page, it won't run properly from there.

Anyone else tried their hand at html programming for their new baby? It's fun - jump right in, the water's not too cold.
