Mytouch slide tips (contact doubling etc)

I had some trouble with my contacts doubling, then tripling. I could delete them on my contacts but they were still showing in the text message menu. I spoke with customer service and they couldn't help. I went in to a store and met a really knowledgeable guy who helped me out. I thought I'd share some of his tips here.

For duplicate contacts:
1) Tmobile sync and Gmail sync FIGHT each other. Both should not be running at the same time. Turn off both for the moment. (You'll turn on gmail again in step 3).
2) Go into gmail and select contacts. Clean up the contact list by deleting the duplicates.
3) Go into the phone and turn on the GMail sync. Leave the TMobile sync off. Do not use it.

For battery life:
1) Install the GPS on/off toggle app. Put it on your main screen. Keep GPS off unless using a map or navigation. Easily toggle on when using those functions
2) Turn off Tmobile sync (already done if you did the above). Turn off all automatic syncs that you don't use. Turn syncing to manual or the longest interval allowed between updates.

HTH!

thanks, I had the same problem with the contacts, then decided to completely shut off TMobile sync because it never worked right...

for the battery you can always add the 'power control' widget on one of your screens; you can access GPS, WIFI, Bluetooth, Sync, and Brigtness all with one button..i normally turn them all off before going to bed, I usually wake up with 1% decrease after 7 hours or so...

i dont get how to do the second step . how do yu select the contacts??

Do you have a Gmail account set up on your phone? If so skip this step.
-create a gmail account on your phone (or enable a pre-existing acct). To do this go into the area where you see your apps. Right beside the Genius button app is a little envelope with an M sticking out of it. That is the GMail app. Go into that to create a gmail acct (or enable a pre-existing one). You'll need to do this before turning off the google sync if you had not already done this....

After your Gmail is set up properly, turn off TMobile and GMail syncing.

Now, sign into your gmail account on your home computer. Delete any duplicate contacts (in other words, don't delete everyone, just the extras).

Now, turn GMail sync back on your phone.

Everything should be fixed as long as you don't turn TMobile sync back on. Keep it off.
