Does anyone use bluetooth for EVO <-> Computer?

I paired EVO with my HP HDX (model HDX X18T-1200 CTO) easy enough, but it says 'paired but not connected' on my phone. I'd want to utilize this for PDAnet and file transfer if possible but hit a brick wall since it won't connect. I'm wondering whether this is something on the computer side of things, I've never done it before (because the hero would never be discovered on bluetooth) so I am curious as to how to proceed

I have paired with my hp dv9700 and have no problems connecting. Just select the device, in my case labled admin-pc, and it connects showing connected to phone and media audio. I can play media from my phone to the pc, however I dont see the evo showing up in explorer. I can send a file to the evo by right clicking and send to Bluetooth device.

I havent played with it any further, and am not sure how this would work for pdanet though.

** This connection is pretty much just a media, or regular Bt headset connection

You won't get anywhere doing this without FTS "File Transfer Services" on each device that you connect/pair. Your HP computer most likely have these, but I dought that the EVO does. In the past, when I used/owned a Pocket PC, I had an HP (forget the model...etc.), but HP loaded that up real nicely with all the BT services needed to do file transfers, and then some. I very much dought that HTC did this for the EVO. I would be willing to bet that the only services installed on the EVO, pertaining to BT services, is ONLY pairing with a BT headset for talking purposes.

Wrong. The evo does have file transfer built in, it works great.

It must have been the update that we received (maybe). I remember pairing up with the phone, the same day I got it, and there were NO file transfer services on it that I can remember. Now however my computer is setting up file transfer services between it and the phone. Awesome. I'm glad I saw your post (even though it seems a little sarcastic), as now I'm set up for FT's.

I get that same message (paired but not connected) all the time when pairing to my carputer (which is a full blown PC running WinXP).

On my phone, I sometimes can simply hold down and say connect, and it will work. Sometimes I have to try multiple times. Then, sometimes it will say connected (something like "Connected as audio headset"), and sometimes it will still say "paired but not connected" but it works anyway...

Well, I got annoyed with setting up the finicky bluetooth every time I want to listen to internet radio in the car, so instead I started doing wifi tether and running winamp in the car.

I haven't done the OTA update yet, so I'm running unrevoked. All I want is internet music in my car - I don't care about root, but if the update is gonna make me lose root without fixing my bluetooth issue, I'm not gonna do it. Are you updated yet?

I paired my evo to my vaio laptop just fine. Unfortunately it appears as tho my laptop only supports file pushing to the evo and not to the laptop from the evo. I tried downloading a bt file transfer program to my laptop and it was a spamming pos that took over my firefox... anyone know a good free one to use?

OP, if your using win 7 or vista you may be missing certain drivers needed for the OBEX/FTP connectivity for the EVO. depends on what BT stack your using (you can look in your device manager and see).

im running old school win xp pro and the evo connects to BT instantly. ive transferred photos, videos, documents to and from and i can also see the SD card from the computer.

enable the service on the EVO. also , unpair, then see if the ltop can sniff out your evo (make sure its discoverable) then let the ltop connect to it.. turn off any firewalls as well...

When in your BT setting within your phone and in the area where it says "Paired but not connected", all I did was push on that area and it showed "connecting". Funny thing about this is, even though (on my system anyway running W7 Home Premium), it says "paired but not connected", I can still use my computer system to send a file over, and the phone responds (too too quickly I might add), a computer wants to send you a bluetooth file. Because it is soooo quick, I have to go to home page of the phone, touch menu, then touch notifications to be able to accept the file transfer.


I'm still unsure as to how to evoke a file transfer from the EVO to the computer via BT transfer. If someone else could help me/us out with that, that would be nice. I hope the above helps you.

Hey thanks. I thought of Astro before and got in there and for the life of me didn't see any way to send a file or anything like that, but since your post, went back in there to check it out again, and found a "Send" option. Sheeeesh, I must be going BLIND.

Setting up the FTP server on the phone (in Advanced settings of BT area), allowing W7 to connect up again after setting that up on the phone, then going into "Devices and Printers" section and double clicking on Icon that W7 uses for the paired phone, at this point you would be at the Properties page of the device in W7, then click on "Services" tab and make sure W7 is recognizing that "File Transer (Obex)" is now set up on your phone. Then in Astro use a "Long Click" on the file you want to send over and a window should pop up with a "Send" option, select the send option then another windows pops up with Bluetooth as one of the options. Once you select Bluetooth, you other device that you are paired with should show up, select it and it should transfer over. You may or may not have to confirm authorization depending on how you have things set up. This is what did it for me. Hope it helps.

This should've worked, it sure did for me (sorry it didn't for you). Just FYI, on my system anyway, Windows 7 had to download a buttload of drivers. Did you see Windows update do any "Updating" in regards to your bluetooth drivers and/or your HTC EVO 4G? Also, when your doing a file transfer between the 2 devices, as you describe above, it is supposed to go ahead and disconnect (at least that is always what happens on mine), then when I want to transfer other files between the 2 devices, I just go through the steps again. One thing I found after getting the 2 devices paired up correctly was Windows 7 4 different options for the EVO. In Devices and Printers area, double clicking on the phone icon, in the properties page for the phone, I now have "Listen to audio from your phone through this computer's speakers" with a "Connect" button, "Use this computer as a headset or speakerphone for calls on your phone" with a "Connect" button, down below that "Browse files on your phone", and then below that, "Send files to your phone"...the latter two WITHOUT "Connect" buttons. I have found that the only time that I continually have a "Connected" status is when I use one of the "Connect" buttons described above, otherwise, it always says "Disconnected".


I don't know why this didn't work for you, unless of course you don't have all of the pertinent drivers necessary to accomplish it. All of the description pertains to Windows 7 and the EVO, I don't know what OS you're running.

Hmm, well I have Windows 7 Home, and it didn't download any drivers the first time, but it did load some from the hard drive. I tried sending a file to the phone, so i know it would be connected. Even then, when i double click the phone, it still shows nothing in the properties box as far as what services it has. I know this works, as i can still use my old phone and it works fine. Maybe its just something wrong with this phone. Im getting a replacement in teh next few days anyway, so hopefully the new one will work.

More than likely that's because once you pair it to something it's paired until you decide to unpair it. That's why you may see on your phone as well as your computer system "Paired but not connected". In other words the pairing status will always remain there until you physically unpair it, however a connection is not necessarily always there, like for file transfers, you have to initiate those manually.
