Root Got my new Incredible and compared it to the OC'd Droid.

NO COMPARISON. I ran all the standard benchmark programs that you can get for free on the market, and the results were all the same. DROID faster by a mile. For the record, the incredible is on completely stock 2.1 freshly rebooted, and my droid was freshly rebooted running BB froyo .04 and overclocked to 1ghz. Very similar to the inc in terms of clock speed.

Quadrant scores for the Droid were 1300 and for the Inc it was 558. The Linpak MFLOPS for the Droid was 15.5 and it was 6.3 for the inc. And for gears FPS monitor, the Droid ran 61 FPS and the Inc ran 58FPS.

The big diff right now is that we're running 2.2. I know the Inc has been rooted, but I don't know if they got 2.2 running yet (or even what custom ROMs if any, they have). I'm sure things will be more comparable then. I like my g/f's Inc, but as of right now, mine's def faster.

And droid can go to 1.25GHz... Still the reigning champion!

its a skewed comparison since one is on 2.2 (droid) and one one 2.1 (incredible) but i am sure the droid will still beat out the incredible on an equal playing field

load a 2.1 rom on your droid and run the same things. That would be a much better comparison. I have used the incredible and to me it seems a little snappier than an over clocked droid on 2.1.

There's no substitute for 512MBs of RAM. That's the only thing I wish Droid would have and I'm sure is the only reason newer phones are so much smoother than Droid. Load up a big page with lots of imagery and stuff on it, the Droid chugs hard while newer phones with 512MBs RAM still scroll smooth. My Droid is running at 1.1 GHz and it still chugs when multitasking and web browsing sometimes.

I still love it though and will prolly only trade it for Droid 2 when it comes just for the RAM upgrade. I'll bet most Droid devs will migrate to Droid 2 too and then it will be heaven for the foreseeable future . The Samsung Fascinate (Galaxy S variant) looks pretty sweet too.

The best thing about this is .... look at we have done with our Droids compared to a stock Droid !!!
Its nice to have a phone that can evolve with the times. I would still recomend a Moto Droid to a friend just based on the community and all the options we have. And compared to prices now days ... its a good way to go

While I will agree that this test is not a fair comparison, I also agree that a rooted Droid has withstood so many new models being released and is still a "flagship" type device (for now anyway).

A stock incredible is hands down better than a stock Droid in terms of speed (regardless of who gets an official OTA 2.2 ROM first...). Having all of the overclocking and custom ROM options has saved this device for many early adopters like myself that would not be thrilled right now with a 550MHz Droid running 2.1.

Early adopters often get screwed with paying high prices and seeing their devices quickly surpassed by new devices early and often.

...Luckily, that is not the case with the Droid because despite having larger screen options now, there have not been any major advancements that have made a Droid running @ 1GHz + obsolete (or even close to obsolete). This is especially true when you couple that with the ability to have 2.2 long before most other phones (if some models will even get it at all). I imagine that Droid Incredible users will get awfully anxious when stock Moto Droid's are running 2.2 and they are still on 2.1 (with a model released 6 months after the Droid)

I laugh when I see comparisons of a stock Droid to another phone. The Droid looks so basic and slow. These comparisons do not reflect the kind of experience that most of us have had. And with apps like Launcher Pro, you can get the best things that HTC's Sense has to offer...without having the downfalls of it.

Even when I was still running 2.1, I felt like my Droid (in real world use - hadn't benched it at this point) was about the same as the Incredible that my buddy uses. He was actually shocked when he asked to use my phone and found it to be just as fast as his. Faster? No, probably not. On 2.2? Absolutely. UBRocked hit it on the head. For such an "old" phone, it's still capable of matching or outperforming the newer flagship models. Can't complain about that.

I'd say 99% of the Incredible's "snappiness" can be attributed to the Sense UI Launcher. It's the same as our LauncherPro making the phone feel more responsive in the initial app browsing. That's really about as far as people get into thinking the phone is fast. Initial impressions is everything.

I am going to have to disagree with you on this one. The incredible is snappy with pretty much all tasks. I attribute it to the one big advantage the Inc has over us which is its ram.

Agreed. The RAM probably helps out quite a bit. I have an Incredible I'm trying to get rid of.

The issue for me is being able to run stock Android. Do I wish the Droid had 512MB of RAM, yes? Is it a dealbreaker for me, absolutely not. I love my Droid.

I'm going to have to agree with you both

The RAM is a "real" upgrade and I could only imagine how much snappier my phone would be with an extra 250MB running free...

@ Timaphilips...I remember what the stock, 3 drawer home screen was like..."flicking" through homescreens felt more like cross threading a nut on bolt...not smooth at all. The new launchers have done a great job of making the interface smoother. Even with the 2.2 ROMs and the stock launcher, it is not very fast or smooth.

The screen transitions are really where the Inc gains an edge. Since 2.2, my Droid is pretty much comparable to the Inc there, though. The Inc is a great phone, I won't knock it. But having a rooted Droid, I knew I didn't need the Inc, or the upcoming Droid X and 2. It's going to take that rumored 2GHz processor Motorola superphone to come out at the end of the year to have a clear, head and shoulders better option than the Droid. At that point the Droid will be a year old, and that's a helluva shelf-life in these technological times.
