Help Crackling in speakers when you use the 3.5mm

I had to return my Droid because the jack was causing the left channel on anything it was plugged into to crackle a bit. I returned it, and the new one does the same thing. I have confirmed that it is not my wiring because it happens in my house and my car.

Anyone else have this issue?

I use a headset all the time, and I've never heard any crackling.

Are you plugging into a car plug or something? I'm not clear on what you mean by this, "I have confirmed that it is not my wiring because it happens in my house and my car."

I get crackling in left side in the car and also in my shure headphones. Its imterminnent with 2 different aux cables. Please make bluetooth audio work in my car moto, google, whomever

I've got the same thing happening to me. I just returned my droid, not sure if the problems fixed, I havent tried it yet.

Interesting. What car adapter are you using? A moto one?

I have some older cheap bluetooth headphones at work that I don't really use anymore. I like wired headphones, and ironically I'm using my iphone headphones

If it's truly a bluetooth problem, the more we report this, the sooner it'll get fixed! I know that there's a few mazda owners that can't even even BT connect to their car stereos over factory BT.

Right, I was replying to the other guy about BT. Sorry for confusing the thread.

So just 1 set of headphones? What brand/model? Or two since you mentioned car/house? Have you tried other headphones?

Ohh, I have a really really cheap set collecting dust, I'll have to dig these up. But I'll say again, I'm using either some sony in ears or the apply iphone headphones and they work perfectly.

Not saying that it's your headphones, but let's just try to rule that out, that's all!

Same thing here but I think I solved my problem. First, when you are listening to something, don't have the media volume to the max, take it down a couple of notches and use your car stereo volume to make up the difference. Next, I found that the crackling only happened when I used pandora, so to fix this... go to the pandora preferences and change the audio quality from normal to high. By doing these two things, I think I have eliminated the problem.

I have used my 3.5mm jack with headphones, a portable bose, and the car stereo. I have not noticed the crackling with any of them.

It is interesting that you do not notice it with a specific application. Can you try some others? The one's I've used have been listen and tv.com.

It still happens in pandorfa even with the quality on high. It also happens with the native music application. I don't know what to do.

I am using headphones with the native music app right now and chose a Journey song with a lot of piano to it. It is crisp and clear - no crackling at all.

The only thing I can recommend you try that you haven't to verify 100% that it is the hardware is to use your headphones on a different device and make sure they work fine.

I really think you have bad hardware and need to exchange it again.

OP didn't post up what he's using specifically. I'm not saying he doesn't have a problem, but some more info would be nice to know, ie:

Is it truly a droid problem:
Did he try different headphones?
What headphones were used?

Just trying to help, more specifics can not only help us, help him find the problem, but also other users that might have the same problem!

I was just about to post this today to. Tried it in a car and only Pandora would do it, it sounded like a crackle whenever there was a loud bass sound.

I have the same issue. I have a 3.5mm cord going from droid to aux jack of my radio in my impala. I hear cracking noise only in the left channel but not the right. I tried using the default media player, rockon, last.fm, and meriddian (sp?) but issue persists. I do not have this problem when using my droid with my a set of cheap headphones that originally came with my psp. (before my droid, I plugged my psp into aux port in car and sound played without problems. My wife's zune also does not display this problem so I don't think its the cord).

Problem persists if phone is being charged or not. Phone was not in car dock at the time. I've tried putting music on low volume and increasing it by using audio controls but issue persists. Also, it isn't an issue with every song. My wife says it seems to be more noticeable with songs with more bass than normal (I listen to a lot of christian hip hop music). I'll look for a song tomorrow that causes the problem and upload it for others to try on their droid.

I have the exact same issue and yes it is much worse with Pandora
I thought at first it was only Pandora. but I was wrong it is the Music app as well

I also have tried several item
external speakers car jack and head phones.
This has to be fixed.

anyone had luck with a replacement Droid?

If this is an issue with a lot of bass, I certainly wouldn't hear it with piano. I will check my build date (update: it is 40/09) and see what I can find with a driving bass. Also note that I purchased directly from Verizon online and had it shipped.

Does anyone have a specific song that has given the issue so we can replicate with the same music, since it seems like that can make a difference?

40/09 here. Tested with headphones and I don't have the issue. However, the headphone jack is a bit light and doesn't have alot of tension on the jack. Pulling up on the jack connection even in the slightest with the cheap stereo headphones I've got causes the droid to switch to speaker. Left to right movement within the jack itself is rock solid (no movement).

Thought I should note too, that I've tried pandora. And I'm not as crazy about it as Cherry Rplayer. I like Cherry Rplayer more as it allows me to search for stations all over the world, rather than just individual song or band types. Just a matter of preference for me. I still keep pandora around for that purpose, just don't use it as much.

Ok, I tried with Pink Floyd Breathe/On the Run and was quite impressed with how good it sounds through headphones and through my portable bose. I tried Styx/Reo live and the sound was great. I tried Weird Al Cavity Search, which seemed to have the most bass. The song itself sounded a bit tinny, but there was no crackling. I suspect Weird Al's albums are not mixed as well for sound reproduction as Pink Floyd's were.
