Moments days are numbered.

Well, we decided to pull the trigger and change phone carriers so the mental anguish will soon end. Heading off the land of Verizon and will be sporting the DroidX on the 15th. Its truly sad that Sprint/Samsung have abandoned us after only half a year. Once I read that the official stance was no upgrades beyond the current 2.1 we planned, the "moment 2" being launched and having untold hours of conversation with various levels of Sprints technical support only to be told we (family plan with 2 moments) were costing them money because the phones dont work. Actually, they said by sending replacement phones (4 total) and the two Heros we bailed out of in the first 30 days, they werent making any profit? Lets see, in the case of the Hero phones my phone would never ring and go directly to voice mail. I dont see that as my fault. This started happening the third day I had it. Within two weeks the other phone was doing the same thing. We figured that getting out of the ticking timebomb phones was the thing to do and got moments after paying the difference in price. Three weeks ago i had my original Moment replace with a refurb they sent, that phone would turn itself off when you hung up from a call or just let it sit on the table. Again, I dont see that as something I did. Raised hell about refurbs and they sent brand new units last week. Since then both new phones have been doing screwy things like locking up and needing the battery pulled to restart, widgets disappear from the screen again and again as well as that good ol data lockup deal that we all pay $30 a month for.

Hence the change to VZ although it costs more. The Droid X will be going 2.2 this summer and hopefully beyond as things progress. I just cant stand myself paying for something that doesnt work every month... or is it paying every month for something that doesnt work?

Sorry if I come across as bragging or gloating. Im pretty stoked!

Congrats! I just got told yesterday that im stuck with this phone for 2 years....as soon as I have enough money this thing is gonna be my practice frisbee...

Ditto.

I feel especially bad because I convinced my sister to get one a few weeks ago right after I did my 2.1 upgrade. She has been complaining about issues for a week, and all of a sudden mine has now bugged out. At this very moment I am searching the net for a new phone.

You just have bad luck with phones. I'm not doubting that any of these issues happened to you, but it's just hard to believe you had 4 different phones, and they all had their own problems. I've had 2 moments, had to get a replacement because the first one was stolen. I haven't had any real issue aside from the random lockup.

It does suck that the Moment isn't going to get any further updates though.

what you have to do is raise hell with sprint and make sure that they make a record of the problems. What you might think to be our largest issue was actually the minor one. According to the Sprint service location map, when you input our address it incorrectly located us on the coverage map. Thinking we were good to go we committed only to find out were we where is piss poor service. Bringing that to their attention got us a free Airave so at least the phones worked at home but dropped calls once you drove away.

I dont think im being picky having phones replaced either. If they sell this or that feature it should work. $30 extra for data that cant be used unless you want to pull off the back to get to the battery isnt in my game plan. Having the phone simply shut down without being touched isnt either. There were times calls were missed because the phone shut down.

AMS Ultimate Dream Rom ver 5.0 has corrected data lock bug. I use to have this same problem, got tired of waiting on Sprint so rooting and custom roms is what I did. It's that way with all phones with me. I always find something that pisses me off and this issue was one of them. Haven't had the issue at all anymore.

I'm curious to see if this is true. It's been all too common for people to flash to a new rom and claim the lockup is gone only to later post that it was not. Right now, I'm running noobnl's 1.6.1 and it seems solid. If the reports on 5.0 are good, maybe I'll clean everything out and give it a try this weekend.

Same here. I mainly experience data lockup when turning wifi off. So now I just keep it on all the time. Doesn't drain the battery that much.

Sorry to see you leave Sprint. I'm on my original Moment, and aside from a few minor issues, it has been working great.

I stay with Sprint because I choose the carrier first (price + coverage), and phone second. Sprint is the best value by far, and I get my premier 12 months upgrade in the fall, when I'll get the Epic / Evo or some new 4.0" + Android smart phone.

Good luck with the big red. My wife has had Verizon before and I hated dealing with them. Perhaps they have improved since then. But their cap on data, and their more expensive plans still keep me from trying them again.

I agree on the Sprint value part when you have good coverage. I moved to eastern NC from the San Antonio TX area where coverage was outstanding. Unfortunately, my home is in the country here and according to sprint they dont have any plans on filling in the dead zone I live in. We contacted AT&T about their coverage and although they dont cover this area they do have plans on a new tower for the area in a few more months but to be honest, they dont have an Android phone im interested in. I also agree about VZ being difficult to get along with. I was with them before getting my first android and they are heartless vendors for sure. But, when you look at the coverage map for this area its hard to find a spot that isnt covered and after a long and hard thinkover about returning we decided we would rather have coverage and a phone that works vs paying for a service that doesnt. If i lived in Jacksonville NC (nearest city) im sure things wouldnt have been so difficult but the moment sure seems to have been the weak point.

8 more days!

I'm on my second Moment... first had the random Airplane Mode and this one is rock solid... I'm cruising along with Noob's 1.6.1 ROM and it is great. I personally love my moment and don't really have any complaints... Rooting and latching on to some good custom ROM's and Kernels is the way to go...

I am on my 5th Samsung Moment, and this one that I have now may be the worst of the entire bunch. Although I have only had a half dozen full-on airplane mode lockups over the past week, I usually get around 7-10 CDMA lockups every day that may or may not prevent making/receiving phone calls.

Sprint has only offered me the vastly inferior Hero as a swap... I have cancelled my contract with Sprint and I am ready to switch carriers. Although tomorrow I will be going to the Corp Sprint store to see if, in a last effort, they would like to get me back into contract with a working phone... Though after all the hell they have put me through rather than attempting to make things right, I am not going to hold my breath.

Im on my second an i have to say i hate this phone it sucks it has so many issues but hey i guess everyones is diffrent... I just switch to a hero this morning i guess we will see how that does intill i get my evo....
Did you have to pay full price for the Evo?

I just did a factory reset on my Moment... It was being very sluggish:thinking:... But... I hate to say Verizon treated my wife and I like dirt, hence our move to Sprint... I also wish I would be getting an htc evo or whatever, but it is not going to happen for a while... I had to change the Blackberry curves I had with Verizon 4 times! before they upgraded me to a Tour. I was finally happy with the Tour but they stuck us up with a swift "roaming" charge that was not even our fault as the company or the phone did not advise us that we were roaming...
We are still paying Verizon for that stiff...

Anyway... I still have my first moment and I am relativelly happy with it for now, in spite of it all...:D
Thanks for letting me ramble...:)

So, can anyone confirm this? I'm skeptical (like pasta)because I've heard these claims before as well to promote a rom. And with 7 posts and no reply yet, I'm leaning in that direction. But I'll keep an open mind.

I've seen reports of 2 data lockups from 2 different people and that's it. It didn't completely cure it but it made it bearable.

I didn't see anyone making claims about reduced lockup besides Dearmas, but I flashed MD 1.2 last night anyway. The only time I see lockup with my phone is after shutting down wifi and it happens with this rom just as easily/much as any other. The rom seems fine in my casual testing and doesn't seem much different than noobnl's in performance or stability. Barring any significant discovery, I'll probably flash back to noobnl's later today/tomorrow. Reading Dearmas's posts and boasts on his forum leaves a bitter taste in my mouth, he comes off as a petulant teen who wasn't raised particularly well. I'd give him credit for all the work he's doing and for sharing, but he's already grabbed it all himself and then some. His treating the rom like it's some sort of corporate secret is disturbing too. Does he think that there's some profit to be made in hacking the rom of a phone that is essentially eol?

the thing you have to remember is that dearmas himself doesn't do any of the work. he only collects other people's work and compiles it into a rom, and then he does a lousy of job of recognizing that. several devs at sdx have reviewed his roms many times and found the code he uses, that he gives HIMSELF credit for, are actually other people's codes and/or work; including the kernel that he uses (which is/was littlejth's btw).
