Well starting today I am having this problem. my 3g is cutting in and out. I don't know if it is the area as I am not around anyone else who has 3g. and this has never happened here before so I don't think so.
I really don't want to call and have to get the phone replaced again, I don't feel I will be as lucky with getting 1.47 HBOOT.
Not only is it cutting in and out but the 3g toggle is being really weird, when I press the toggle it kind of freezes and says its on but I don't have the 3g up at top. and the only way to turn it off is by holding power key.
when I turn it on by power key itll work but when I browse through the market it will cut out. I'm baffled here

I would be reluctant to blame your phone when it might be nothing more than a reception issue (either temporary or due to terrain and tower issues)- sounds like from your post you don't have prior experience operating in that area, so... I would wait a couple of days and see if the problem persists (especially if you see it happening in areas where you've previously used the phone without trouble.)

You could also collect a little data, too. If you see your signal level (not the stupid "bars" display, but actual dBm) hanging out below -95 dBm when your display shows 3G service, I would suspect it's simply a coverage thing.

If I ran to the cell phone store every time something mysterious happened to one of my cell phones, I'd be on my 500th phone by now.

I'm at home were I've been the whole time I've had my phone so it isn't that, and I have -72-80 at all times so it isn't that..

I never said I was running to the store over a reception issue either, but from the way it's reacting I'm having a hard time seeing that it is a reception problem

Well, maybe it is a temporary 3G outage / issue with your local area/tower...i.e., +1 to eu1's answer. Maybe a flock of seagulls flew into your tower (or even birds :D).

You could call VZW and see if other users in your area have reported 3G issues or wait it out and see if its better later... I've had the occasional blips like that, but they were around midnight when I figured they might be doing service fixes, upgrades, ECOs, etc.

edit: I'm also a little relieved its not a 1.1 issue :)

I will go to cehck my email and it will cut out, and it will have no 3g icon bu says Im still connected, so i physically hold power turn it off, and then do the same to turn back on, and it works fine so thats why im thinking it is problem with the phone, and it does this on every rom ive tested today, fresh, ivans 1.0 and aloysius

At random, 3g internet will start furiously cycling on and off.

This happens especially while tethering, and doing other activity at the same time.

It happens on AOSP ROMS, Ivan's Eris_Official, EvilEris, and EVERY other that I've had.

A reboot fixes it.

It's somewhere between Eris and Verizon. It needs to reboot every once in a while. It sucks.

Dude where in Upstate NY are you? I grew up in Binghamton.

And can you post that Rosie.apk you have that is themed? I've been trying to make that EXACT theme happen for Rosie for MONTHS!

I've tried a reboot, and tried pulling the battery still to no avail.

Sorry, I misinterpreted what you meant when you said "I don't know if it is the area", ... I must have missed the context that came after that.

There are places in my house where I will get -70 dBm 3G service, and the next day... nothing. I suppose it could be the phone hardware, but the thing is, I don't have any more reason to blame the phone than I do anything else which gets the service to my location - the cell tower(s) in my area, a software bug on either side of the airwaves, a difference in the RF channel due to multipath, etc.

I was just trying to encourage you to proceed methodically... and wait long enough to see if the problem persists, esp. in more than one location. You probably don't want to turn in a phone which has worked well for you in exchange for the Russian roulette game of "refurb du jour".
