Will insurance cover my Drowned droid

So heres the deal. I have two lines and my secondary is only around to use for upgrades as I just used it for my droid in Jan. I noticed 2 weeks ago on my bill that the insurance coverage (6.99) that I had paid for the last year was still on my secondary even though I always transfer that phone to my primary. It had been on my primary before.

So I called up verizon and they moved it to my primary no problem. But today I dropped my droid in the toilet (yes gross). It turns on but there is water stuck in the Screen.

Does anyone know if there is a waiting period before you can make a claim? I just dont want them thinking its a fraudulent claim even though it isnt.

Anyone have a similar situation?

Thanks

Ed

Thanks for the reply. The reason Im asking really is the timeiing of everything. It has actually only been 10 days since I moved my insurance over from my 2nd line. Should I wait longer before filing the claim? Couldnt someone break there phone and then add insurance later and start a claim?

Im wondering whether they are looking for that and if my claim could be denied.

Thanks

If Verizon tried to refuse coverage I don't think they would have much legal ground to stand on. If you have even made a call in the last 10 days (After you got the insurance, before the phone drowned), then it will show up for Verizon, and for you if you look on your verizon acct on their website. Regardless I don't think they can deny you a replacement on an assumption like that.

Toanswer your last question I was under the impression that Verizon only lets you add insurance on within 30 days of purchase (new phone or upgrade), with a few exceptions. I don't know which circumstances you got the insurance on, but I'm pretty sure if you managed to get signed up for the insurance then it will cover your phone.

And Verizon isn't the insurer - it is a separate company - Assurion. They have a website, you can make the claim without even talking to anyone.

Not sure I get which line is covered but if the line the toilet swimmer is on is covered, then the phone is covered even if it only switched ten days ago.

And when they switch they do confirm that the switch is a working phone so you should be good to go.

Hi, I just wanted to chime in on this. I work for a Verizon premium retailer here in MA. did you just activate the phone on the account through an ESN change or has it been active and they just messed up the insurance. If the phone was just activated as well as insurance they will make you wait 30 to file a claim because of the 30 day return policy verizon has. if it was in fact a mistake where they messed up the insurance then you should be fine. if they give you a hard time then try an figure out when you called customer service and who you talked to, all calls are actually recorded and they should be able to pull up the call so you can prove your case.

(on an unrelated note, is there any post where I can advertise my store at all? we have some features people here would like 80$ 2yrs of insurace )

Everyone has summed it up pretty nicely. The only thing Asurion really checks is when the incident occurred and did you have insurance on that date.

You are only supposed to be allowed to add insurance within two weeks of a new purchase, but it is really up to the agents at the store to follow that rule. The system allows them to add it whenever. Note that adding insurance to cover a previously damaged phone is insurance fraud.

Also, if you switch to another phone in the meantime, make sure you specify which phone you are calling to replace. Had an incident where a lady made a claim and they sent her a replacement for her backup Razr she was using..
