My god. It actually was damage control. The story begins with a guy losing calls, but he suffers no penalty, he's Mr. Stick-With-It. Dropped calls are a fact of life. Apple was just those whacky kids that didn't know to use the AT&T formula, calculating number of bars is hard, whaaa. iPhone wasn't good for business in the initial perspective but is now entrenched in 70% of the Fortune 100. And it'll only get better with Verizon. Tough independent visionaries, to whit the chump kicking off the story, stick it out.

The article should've been titled:

Apple is adopting an AT&T formula for calculating signal bars to accurately display signal strength in a given area -- which, of course, doesn't exactly solve the problem of poor reception, just how that poor reception is displayed.

My EVO does not drop calls or did my previous Sprint cell phone. As a former ATT customer I can say I had plenty of dropped calls.

i also read in one of the article about apple changing the formula for signal strenght... but they will also "raise" each bar icon so that the user can "better see the icons!!!!"

so that the ifans think they have strong signals.

how and why these individuals with so many drop calls for business and life..... willing to "deal" with it.... is beyond my understanding!!!!

my luxury car is brand new.. is so great.. sexy.. fast...retina (eye) popping.... but dies every time. But I only need pull over on side of road, and restart the engine. NO biggy!!
If I get stuck.. I always have my iphone to call for help!!!

The A-companies are ridiculous! That said VZW's going to ingest some of these issues when it gets iPhone in January.

I'm not a fan of iPhones, but I want Apple to do better because it benefits the entire smartphone development process when someone leads the chase, gets caught and surpassed, but then jumps right back into the forefront.

As far as ATT, I left them for dropped calls without the iPhone. And it was very frustrating to be a full bars signal strength yet not be able to even get calls through. Oh, not to mention voicemails that would show up days later than they were left.

Had the original iPhone, and the 3G, and then the 3GS ... I dropped phone calls on all of them ... very frequently. I would say dropped calls was more the rule than the exception. Loving the EVO, haven't dropped a call yet.

Some of the reviews of the new iPhone pointed out that they had a lot less dropped calls with it ... which made me shake my head, because it still means they're having dropped calls, just not as many. I've yet to have a dropped call on my Evo. I'm sure I will, it's an inevitable part of the cell phone experience, but obviously it won't be enough for me to call it a problem.

I have NEVER had a dropped call on Verizon after 2 years of service. I have NEVER dropped a call on Sprint/Evo since launch day when I signed with Sprint. I dropped 2 calls on T-Mobile on a little Samsung flip in Marana 5 years ago in the middle of a monsoon storm. I have dropped several calls on the more reliable phones on AT&T (never owned any Iphone), so I can only imagine how bad the reception is on the new and improved Iphone 4 with AT&T.

Ive said it before and I'll say it again....phones like the EVO, Incredible, and probably the X forced Apple to rush making and getting the 4 out. Seems like they barely tested the phone at all, as most issues are not just small defects.

I mean, how could someone not notice that holding it a certain way kills the signal? You already have AT&T's struggling network, but to add in that defect....which I say will end up not being just a software issue, is kind of just blatant ignorance.

I have never had a drop call on Verizon. Never. I've been with them for the past 4 years.

Actually whats funny is last friday I noticed a "call drop" from a friend......which was completely weird since I know in my house I always have near full strength signal.

Tried calling her back, went straight to voicemail, then she called me back.....and then I immediately remembered that she has an iPhone.

In 11+ years with Sprint, I can almost honestly say I have had only a handful of dropped calls....atleast in areas im used too.

Why do people actually believe this?
Steve jobs does not launch product without massive amounts of media attention and there is not a single shred of proof in the mythical Verizon iPhone.

They have been getting an iPhone for -years- and we have yet to see it.

Why repeat it as if it's a certainty?
Some guy speculates, as usual then it becomes a truth....

The thing that sticks out most in that article is how almost all of the people interviewed seemed to have the philosophy of "this service sucks, I think I'll keep using it anyway". Brilliant. Because of course there's no better way to encourage a company to improve their product or service than to create a snarky twitter account while you wait to hand over another wad of your cash...

While I don't believe the articles that come out, I do believe that the iPhone will eventually come to Verizon.

I also believe that the main reason Steve Jobs didn't want to bring the iPhone to Verizon is that Verizon wouldn't pay kickbacks.

The iPhone has been wildly successful for AT&T, however the Droid line has been wildly successful for Verizon. They don't NEED the iPhone.

On top of Verizon basically telling Steve Jobs that the iPhone isn't worth paying Apple kickbacks, Verizon launched a series of ads attacking the iPhone for what it couldn't do. I think Steve Jobs will refrain from bringing the iPhone to Verizon until it is a business necessity.

When the iPhone comes to Verizon, that's when you'll be able to tell that Steve Jobs is desperate.

When the iPhone finally lands in Verizon, I think that will effectively eliminate AT&T has the 2nd biggest competitor. Everyone will move from AT&T to Verizon aside from those clueless people who think that AT&T is a better network. I can't see any reason of why people would stay with AT&T.

I think that when the iPhone comes to Verizon, people will already be leaving the iPhone for Andriod phones.
