Speaker (ear) Suddenly Sounds Like Sh**

All of a sudden my speaker (the one you put to your ear) sounds really static-y. Not signal static, it's very clear that it's the speaker itself or at least something around it vibrating. It kind of sounds a speaker that has been damaged (ripped, or got wet or something even though it has not been wet).

Anyway, I plan on taking it into the sprint store today and having them check it out. Anyone one else with this problem?

I haven't had that problem exactly, but I do believe the speaker is crap on this phone. All of my HTC speakers suck. As far as making calls the phone is fine for me. I'm more than sure its a hardware issue.

Yeah, the ear speaker on this never sounded great, but it was tolerable. Something happened today though and it is no longer even tolerable. Even though I can still hear what people are saying, the sound just rakes my nerves and I have to switch to speakerphone which sounds much better.

My phone has been doing this for a week now.. thought it was just me... :(

I think it's somehow software related. Don't get me wrong, the speaker is pure crap, but I've noticed that the issue seems to come & go at various levels of crappiness. I think it may have something to do with the connection's that are made.

I'm getting this problem 100% on every call today from several different sources (land line & mobile callers). I also rebooted, just for the hell of it. I've had calls with bad signal before, and it's not like that at all. I guess there's a slight possibility that something got really jacked up in OS, but I'm pretty convinced it's a hardware problem. It's definitely not a call signal problem in my case.

Edit: And not to mention it sounds just fine when I switch to speaker phone.

PLease do... if you get a better phone, I will always exchange mine

The guy at the store first insisted that he had the same problem and that taking the battery out solved it. So I tried it in the store... no dice.
He then told me to take it to a repair center and he thinks they'll just replace the speaker on the spot... ~30 mins or so.
I probably won't get around to doing that for a few days.

I bought mine from sprint online.

I'm gonna have to take mine in. The sound really is just horrible from the earpiece. I have had no other issues at all with my phone other than this...heck, even battery life is good considering how much I'm on it.

Now, the question is, do I take it to Best Buy (where I bought it from), or take it to a sprint store ? Id rather have it replaced, than repaired

If you are within 30 days just take it back to the store you got it from. After 30 days a Sprint service center will either repair it or replace it with a refurbished phone.

Join the club. Mine has been terrible from day 1. At first it was bearable because it only vibrated in my ear at the highest volume setting. Now here I am a month later and it vibrates at every volume level over 50%. The only reason I have been putting up with it is because I don't talk very often on it and the screen hasn't separated at all. I've been afraid of getting a bad replacement. Tack on the new hot spot, center screen, that is getting brighter by the day and I think its almost time for me to bring it in.

My earpiece has progressively gotten worse, when I talk to someone, it cuts out, if I turn the in call volume all the way up, its even worse, called sprint today because I cancelled t-mobile to have better line up of phones, and told them I had music h better call quality with T-Mobile, so sprint is knocking off $30 off my next bill which I didn't even ask for, and sending me replacement, other then that, have not had any issues

I use bluetooth most of the time for calls and play music out 3.5mm jack. I'm constantly putting ear bud 3.5 jack in and out all day when working because I use it for music and BT for calls. If I"m taking a call, etc. when switching from 3.5 to speaker on phone I have noticed a vibration sound when phone is switching settings but it goes away. I don't let many apps run in the background while making calls but I seem to remember having this problem when answering and wondered if it was app related at one point. Don't know if I turned the app causing problem off or if settings worked it out when switching between bluetooth and 3.5. Like I said, I"m constantly switching and turning things on / off and notice little things like this but they don't last or if they do maybe I switched to BT headset and didn't realize it. Just saying if you remove batt. and reboot then turn off all apps that are not needed and see if problem is still there. Then turn apps on and test. Mine doesn't have this problem 100% which makes me think it is not the speaker. I have switched to speaker phone when listening to voice mail because I was having issues like this and then switched back and problem went away. There is a lot of stuff going on inside my phone all the time and with home made apps running you never know what could be causing a switching problem or delay.

I talked on phone speaker today with no problems so with me it seems to come and go depending on what phone is doing.

I know this is not a solution but without others input you would be dependent on sprint reps.

Hmmm apparently I'm not the only one...
Well, I'll report my experience with getting it 'fixed'. Went into the service center, told them the main problem was the ear piece and also complained of a few other minor things. I didn't really want a new phone because I didn't want to set the whole thing up again (apps, home screens, etc).
They took about 40 mins, replaced the speaker and the entire 'front case'. That's all well & good, but then they also did a hard reset. So much for not having to set up my whole phone again. Made me wish I had pushed for a new phone.

Anyway... speaker sounded much better now, so problem solved.... until I discovered that their fix introduced new problems.

a) I now have the f'ing light leakage! Never had it before. But now light leaking all along the bottom.
b) I'm not 100% positive on this... but maybe like 90%... I swear the power button feels even more sunk in now! Like maybe the whole case is shifted up a little bit that would cause the light leakage on the bottom and make the power button even harder to access.

Ugh. What do you guys think? Take it back to the same service center? Or call Sprint and ask them to replace it? Or maybe just wait a while and see if a new hardware rev comes out from HTC before trying to get a replacement?
Or will I just end up getting a refurb anyway? Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks
