Hello guys,

I was just wondering, is there a good MSN/Live messenger app for my G1 yet? I've read about Meebo, but it seems very slow to me.

Also, I don't want to do anything with root acces or something like that.
I have a european G1 if that matters.

Thanks :)

The built in IM program only works with google talk..
I've tried buddymob and meebo and they both are quite crappy, because I need to create an account and add my friends etc.

I just want to open my msn contacts and be able to chat with them, like Windows Live Messenger on iPhone.

I hope there's an app for this

I meant the English version of the phone, the version we buy here in England, UK.It does not come with a selection of messenger services like the American or US model. I believe they did this to cut the amount of data everyone who has the phone would use. Which they should have relised wouldn't work as there is an open app market for the android OS.
I was also stating Meebo was not that bad, there is no need to re-enter all you existing contacts to your meebo account, they will be there when you sign in. It's what i use and it's ok.

#1 : It is lame that they did that to you.
#2 : Thank you for clarifying. I was going to say the built in IM client works great. That really sucks they stripped out that functionality, though. :(

I was not aware that the UK version was so different. You could always reflash your phone to a US version of the software.

I was about to correct you and say that the UK version does allow connection to other messenger services... but after checking, it seems you are right.

I swear when I first got my G1 the built in IM client could do this, was this perhaps changed with an update? Can't believe they would do that!

Over at AndDev, Plastriq seems to have released an alpha version of MSNDroid. Basic functionality, not on the Market but still nice.

As posted on the 9th of Feb. :

Hey all,

I'd like to show you the app I'm working on at the moment, called MSNdroid.
As you can guess this is an MSN application for the Android

The app is still in alpha phase, it's very basic and probably has alot of bugs.
The only real functionality at the moment is:

- Sending and receiving IMs
- Setting your status
- Setting your nickname

I'd appreciate it if you want to test it out, see if you like the way it's going.
Ofcourse, (constructive) feedback and comments are greatly appreciated

It's not available on the Market yet, because I want to see if there is any interest in this application before paying the $25 fee (don't have that much money to spend as a student

), so the .apk is attached below.

Oh and no, it of course does not send any of your private information or usage statistics to me

PS. If you are going to test it, please also test it over 3G. For some reason I can't explain the app just doesn't work well over 3G (won't login properly), while over WiFi it normally works fine. This might just be my carrier (T-Mobile NL) though.
