Live Wallpaper Idea

Disclaimer: This would probably be a battery hog, but it would be awesome IMO.

Just had this idea while looking at the DroidX "eye" wallpaper on my Inc.

It would be awesome to have the same wallpaper, but instead of the eye, have a fisheye view from the Camera's POV (sort of like a peephole in a hotel door).

To save battery it could be made where it's the normal eye until you touch it, then it activates the fisheye view.

/just a thought, I don't have the knowledge to make it happen (or if it could even be made to happen based on how live wallpapers are made).

I'd like to have one of the water right on the edge of a beach - you know, looking straight down at the edge of a wave coming in over the sand, maybe with a bit of sea foam. But if somebody made it they'd probably clutter it all up with cutesy starfish and other junk...

nope no clutter except one piece of "junk" but it makes sense to have it there,,, my company is actually working on a very similar idea at the moment. given it will only be subtle waves coming up and other small things the alpha of it (not complete graphics but complete moving parts and a first pass through the code) have showed no lag and no battery drain (< 1%).

it rocks actually. not distracting but very nice and subtle. we are debating at the moment wether to go forward with more quality control testing and finishing the current graphics or adding in a day/night function (think moon across the waves) first then continuing on. our first test was done on my incredible so we haven't dealt with other screen sizes/resolutions yet either.

Can we maybe get a preview?

Oooh! Oooh! Do you need a beta tester? :D

I could handle one or two tasteful shells or rocks or something, it's just that some wallpaper makers forget you've got to put icons on there. ;)

I live on the gulf coast so i was thinking of skipping the starfish and going with an oil slick. only problem is then we would have to change the water from clear to brown, gulf was dirty water before the oil.

We have a meeting sometime next week, i will ask about the preview but i know one of the developers is way behind where he is supposed to be on the code and i am behind on the graphics (mainly because i am waiting for the day/night decision at least that is my excuse). Actually i need to stop surfing the forums and get some progress done tonight since i know tomorrow night i am going to blow off working on it to go see predators which puts me behind on my market research and proposal for a mobile game the company is going to start on, it will be developed for windows phone 7 but i have to get the business plan done for it because we have another company that will quickly port the game from C# to java for the android market.
I did just finish up about 80% of another live wallpaper. had a meeting with one of the guys writing the code today, he is way behind me. but that one allows you to put bullet holes (different types, don't have shotgun pellets done yet but i have the 9mm) in different objects on the screen like road signs not just randomly so it is more realistic.

I would love a live ocean wallpaper. Maybe some kinda vignette effect on it. Birds that walk by, crabs maybe. Maybe even incorporate some paper looking birds flying by for a cool effect. Idk, buncha shit you could do.

Any news on the live ocean wallpaper?

Had another idea just now...somebody should really do a version of the old Win98 "Science" screen saver...you know, the rolling glass ball that distorted your wallpaper and icons when it passed over them. I still enjoy using it occasionally on the desktop. With the accelerometer it would be great. :)

the problem with the accelorometer is that is something else that live wallpaper is trying to do. the fewer functions the less battery consumption. we were playing around with something kinda like that, a marble going down a shoot and if you tilted the phone it would fall out of the shoot onto other ones, granted it was a quick test and no where optimized but it was using alot of battery.

ocean is on the list, it got bumped one spot in the project list though. they are about to release a really simple one but it uses no resources and uses no battery ( it was using less than .25%) i have been using the beta code for a week and my incredible and from battery and speed you can't tell it is installed. so after that hits the market and they get used to the developer side of the market (updates/ refunds all that kind of stuff) then there will be almost a flood. in fact last night i started work on the visuals for the second one, a third one has a coder starting on it monday (which is just an extension of the one coming out in the next week) then the next two are a really cool one i am starting some of the graphics for in a couple fo weeks (you think a beach is cool, think tornado) then ocean right behind it. shooting for early september for ocean at the moment.

I work a full time time and help them with this stuff on the side (everyone there is the same way trying to get a new company off the ground so they can quit their "day" jobs) but it has just been insane busy lately. so many really good ideas and so little time.

How about one that's just glitter, glitter that shines and looks very fine and high quality. Maybe with color adjustments and whatnot. Or something that just makes it shine in the background like a diamond or fine piece of platinum. I think it'd give the phone a high quality look. It is afterall a luxurious device.

Anyone have a Playstation 3? That kind of background on the Incredible would look pretty sweet, I'd think.
