Can't answer your questions, but I can give you a thumbs up for mobiles.co.uk - I received my desire from them only this morning, very speedy delivery and they really do offer some great deals.
Android runs all apps including browser in a sandbox environment, meaning that anything happening within said sandbox needs user intervention to operate. If something tries to install from this separated sandbox, you will have to authorise it by accepting it in a prompt window. It's pretty safe but surely not infallible.
