How can I get yahoo mail to work? Thanks scotth501

I have 4 different email accounts. When I got the Moment, I had 2 yahoo, 1 gmail, and 1 from my internet provider. Believe it or not, they are all useful and I don't want to give any of them up.

So, after I got the moment, I set up my Gmail account for the Moment, and then set up separate emails accounts in the Moment's email app. I didn't think anything of this until I got to playing with how Android 1.5 manages mail. The gmail app is great but the email app SUCKS!

At that point, I used my gmail account only to collect voicemails from Google voice and my Magic Jack (who needs a home phone line any more?) I really didn't want to mix normal email messages in with the voice mail messages....and the Moment's email app as not cutting it. So I got thinking, maybe it was time to finally to condense into 1 or 2 vs. 4 email accounts.

So, in deciding how the new dna of my email heirarchy was going to look, I decided to open up another gmail account and make that the Gmail account tied to the Moment's gmail app.

So, in setting up the new gmail account, there was all these new features in gmail that weren't available when I originally set up my first gmail account up a couple of years ago. In gmail, there is the ability sync up to 5 email accounts via POP3 import. This works just like you set up a pop3 on the Moment. Except it converges and dumps it all into your gmail inbox and its LABELED as to what account it came from (i.e. Yahoo1, Yahoo2, etc...). Furthermore, you can set it up that when you send a reply, the reply looks as though it came from the account in which the original email was sent to (i.e.Yahoo1, Yahoo2, etc....). You can do all of this from one gmail account's inbox.

The gmail app on the Moment is much better than the pop3 email app. It allows you to manage mail efficiently and with options. When mail comes into the Moment's gmail app from Yahoo or my internet provider's email, it has a little blue LABEL that denotes which account and mail service the email landed on the Moment from. pretty cool because now I'm not flipping back and forth between 3 differnet accounts within the Moment's email app.

I had no idea this capability was in the gmail but it is...and the native gmail app in the Moment handles this really well.

So, I've bagged the sorry email app in the Moment and have everything funneling in, very efficiently, to the Moment's gmail app.

Hope this info is a revelation for someone else out there and is useful.

Got dayum, I am loving Android and the Moment more and more every day....between this find and the way Google Voice works (lets me call all land lines on my mobile without using any minutes on my cell plan), I'm a very happy camper.

How to set up a disposable Yahoo mail account (one that is free) for POP3....
Go into Yahoo mail > options > account information > under the banner account settings choose "set language, type, and time zone" > Preferred Content banner " new setting" > Yahoo Asia. I kept my time as EST.

Your POP3 settings will now be enabled. Go into gmail (via the web) Settings > Accounts and Import. From there you can funnel everything into your main gmail account and use the gmail app on the Moment to manage up to 5 separate accounts.

IF THAT DOESN"T WORK

you could also try these settings

MAKE SURE WIFI IS DISABLED

Enter your Yahoo E-Mail address and password
Press “Manual Setup” in the lower left hand corner
For “Incoming Server Settings” set the IMAP server to “imap.mail.yahoo.com” and the Port to 143
For “Outgoing Server Settings” set the SMTP Server to “smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com” and the Port to 587

If that doesnt take it change the imap server to

imap.next.mail.yahoo.com
and the smtp prot back to 25

My battery meter says only 30% after 3 hours. Is my battery bad?
Probably not. The battery meter does have known issues that were fixed in a recent Sprint Update.
Where can I get the new Moment Update(CL14)?
The download and instructions for install can be found here.
Where can I get USB drivers used for tethering via PDAnet?
I want my phones MSL?
Download Connectbot (free) from the market.
connect locally
run getprop
scroll down looking for "[ril.MSL]: [xxxxxx]"
"xxxxxx" is your MSL
Can the Moment be rooted?

When will Android 2.1 be available for the Moment?
The Moment will be getting Android 2.1 early in the Second Quarter. There is a leaked ROM for the Moment w/ Android 2.1

Is there an LED notification light on this phone?
Can I uninstall the Sprint apps?
YES with root the apps can be removed
When I connect my phone to my computer via USB, it doesn't come up as an external drive, it just charges it.
USB Reference Thread
To mount your phone as a drive on your computer you need to open the notification that appears in the notification bar on your phone and select the mount option.

If you don't get the notification, then disconnect the USB cable go to Settings -> Applications -> Development and uncheck the USB debugging option. Exit settings and connect the cable again.
Can I rename a folder on my home screen?
Yes, open the folder and then long press the folder's title bar. A new window will pop up that allows you to change the folder's name.
Can I change my Google Sign-in Name / Gmail Account?
If your like me and when you got your phone and you did not have a gmail acount and just created one and now wanting to change it, you can without any installs or factory resets....

1)goto your home screen
2)settings
3)applications
4)manage applications
5) gmail and gmail storage
6) clear data on both
7) turn off phone all the way and restart

now goto market and it will ask you to put in your gmail info...just put in the new gmail account you created....now your contacts will be gone, but if you go to your gmail account on a pc and click on contacts you should see export. Click on this and it will ask you to select a program to save it to. Then sign out and then sign in to your new account. Click on contacts on new gmail account and then contacts and then import. Contacts are switched. Goto your phone and dialer and contacts should be there. If not give it about 5-10 seconds.

I have suggestions for the FAQ, how can I get them added?
Please Post them here!

I just followed the instructions for adding my Yahoo account and it didn't work. This is what I got:

Server denied POP3 access for the given username and password.POP access is limited to Yahoo! Mail Plus subscribers. Please contact Yahoo! Mail's support team for more information.

I went back into my yahoo account to make sure that it was set at Asia and it was. Is there another way around this?

Ooh...I used the POP3 option the first time and instead I should have used the import mail. I think I got it figured out. Thanks! :)

Next question: the options asked if I wanted to forward my yahoo emails for the next 30 days, so I clicked it. Does this mean that in 30 days I have to go back into my gmail account and set it all back up again?

The thing I find most frustrating in the email app is that there is apparently no way to select multiple messages for deletion, nor is there a way to 'empty trash' to permanently get rid of the many messages that you already painfully deleted one at a time.
So, you end up having to delete every individual message twice. That is truly a PITA.

And, here's a BUG!
If you open the Trash folder in the email app, then long press and select delete on an email, the email will disappear for a few seconds, then re-appear. I cannot delete emails from my trash folder.

And another one:
I created a folder on my home screen to contain my Speed Dials (great app, BTW) working as expected but, is there a way to rename the folder to something other than 'Folder'? I don't see the option. What if I create another folder? Will it also be named 'Folder' or 'Folder1'?
I would like to create a folder on one of the side screens labeled 'games'. There must be a way to do it.

Open the folder and long click the title bar of the folder window, you can then edit the name.

After a few fruitless attempts to find what I figured had to be present, I finally ran across this pretty good list here: http://android-tips.com/use-keyboard-shortcuts-to-switch-between-applications. Some of the keystrokes may not apply due to the buttons support on the Moment. Appears to be written for a different phone, I believe that "Alt" can be replaced with "fn". My comments are in parenthesis for some items.
Android shortcut keys

Open applications:
Browser SEARCH + b
Contacts SEARCH + c
E-Mail SEARCH + e (not Gmail)
Google Mail SEARCH + g
Calendar SEARCH + l (this is an "L")
Maps SEARCH + m (now you can quickly access you location accurate to 2000 miles ;-)
Music SEARCH + p
Messaging SEARCH + s
YouTube SEARCH + y

You can add/change these here: Settings > Application settings > Quick launch (this isn't present on my Moment, but maybe there's another route?)

Scrolling tips:
Page down SPACEBAR
Page up SHIFT + SPACEBAR
Jump to end of list ALT + TRACKBALL roll DOWN ( fn + Down arrow works on Moment )

Delete character to left DEL
Delete character to right SHIFT + DEL
Delete entire line ALT + DEL
Persistent CAPS Press SHIFT twice; press SHIFT again to escape
Jump cursor to beginning/end of line ALT + roll TRACKBALL left/right
Create tab character ALT + q
Highlight (select) text SHIFT + roll TRACKBALL (Shift + arrow OR Shift + optical works on Moment)
Cut text MENU + x, or Highlight text, press & hold TRACKBALL, select Cut (screen Menu button works for these on Moment)
Copy text to clipboard MENU + c, or Highlight text, press & hold
TRACKBALL, select Copy
Paste text copied to clipboard MENU + v, or Highlight text, press & hold
TRACKBALL, select Paste
Undo change MENU + z (could not make this work)
Select all text in field MENU + a, or Highlight text, press & hold TRACKBALL, select Select all (did not work in Search widget, worked in other text field)

Browser tips: (these appear to work with the keyboard Menu key - fn then Z then the letter)
Open Go to window MENU + s (where you'd enter a URL or search)
Open Bookmarks MENU + b
Open Windows MENU + w
View history MENU + h
Refresh or stop page MENU + r

I have been doing everything I can to deal with this. I happen to like different notifications for different events. This is do-able in most applications' setting screen. Most of the sounds I use are fairly subtle, so I have the notification volume up high.
BUT!!! every time I plug into external power, there is a very large notification sound. Since there is no setting for this particular event, does anyone know how to silence just this event without turning off others. This is a particular problem if I am sitting at my desk and plug in, (or unplug, yes, both), it's very loud and distracting to other people.
I know when I plug into external power, I don't need a very loud sound to remind me.

OK, I got 'Tone Picker' from the market. I set the system sound to silent, then picked individual notifications for the Handcent and email apps. This finally worked.

I have cleared the data on both apps as mentioned (although when I clear the Gmail storage one, close the window and come back it still has the "clear data" option available and still says it has 48 kb of data). I didnt like my gmail name so I went on my computer and deleted the account thinking it would ask for a new one on my phone but it does not. Instead, even as I followed the steps above, when i get the the market step at the end, it asks for a character code thing then when i enter that it asks for my gmail password, but doesn't allow me to change my account. Anything I can do?

I remember browsing though my phone's options after having it for a few days. I remember coming across the option for whether or not the phone made a noise when going in/out of service. Thinking that it might be a good idea, I checked the box.

Now it drives me CRAZY when I am in/out of class, and in/out of the library where cell phones can not (or can barely) get a signal, and I can't find that option any more! I have spent at least 20 minutes looking for it! I could've sworn that it had the option, but I just can't find it. Does anyone know how to turn off the audible notification for going in/out of service!?

I believe if you simply go to Menu...settings...Sound & Display...SD card notifications...then UNCHECK it...it should fix your annoyance!
