Shotty build quality, bad luck, or improper care....

I picked up my evo the 16th of last month. The first 2 weeks I did not have a case on it. I was babying the thing. It went in a pocket all on its own. When I laid it down on my table, I placed my micro fiber clothe. I laid it down on regular surfaces every now and then especially when I went to class.

After the 2 weeks I noticed that the very top of the kick stand developed a bunch of scratches(right where the phone lays on a surface). In addition to this I noticed a scratch on the metal ring the phone also lays on. I bought the silicon shell at sprint waiting for my amzer case to come in the mail(they took a while). It was good because it kept the stand and camera off the surface. Problem was/is that its big, feels loose, etc.

My amzer case came a couple of days ago and I gladly switched over to it due to the form factor. Everything was great until tonight. I saw smudges on my screen so I decided it would be a nice wipe down time. I took the phone out of the case to completely wipe down the entire phone and clean any possible dust on the case or phone. It's then when I realized the back of the phone(the battery cover) has these weird marks. I try wiping them off and nothing, I dampened a corner of my clothe thinking it might just really be on there, tried that and nothing, they are permanent. Looking at the amzer case, it instantly clicks. Amzer has their name written all over the inside of the case.

I'm now debating returning my phone and paying the $35 restocking fee. After that either buy another evo and baby it even harder or wait for the epic. I know they are all issues that don't affect performance but its still getting to me especially after paying close to $500 for this phone. I had my hero for 6 months and the day I sold it, it still looked like the day I got it minus 3 tiny little nicks in the screen that can't be seen unless in an all white background.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do but I know I will be deciding soon as much 30 day range is about to close.

and you think this is not going to happen with any other phone? guess i just dont see how it impacts the usefulness of the phone and what it does? Turn it back in and continue your search for perfection. Glad your hero stayed so nice, but too bad it sucked in comparison to what your EVO can do? I for one just keep the gel case on it and use the crap out of it, no scratches or any other hardware problems so many others report.

I take pride in my tech but I also like to keep it in great shape because it makes things a lot easier later down the road when you want to sell something. I sold my Hero for $160(double what sprint was offering) easily and I believe part of it was due to the excellent condition the phone was in.

If I get another Evo I guess I will just follow the same strategy I did with my Hero. Nothing but the phone and the sprint htc case. I used the same one(well different mold) for my hero and while the form sucked as much as the one for the evo, it really did do its job. I'm also tempted to buy a cheap one, activate it, and use it until the epic comes out. This is after returning the evo of course.

Jebus(never "Complain" about your evo in an evo forum"

if i had to say, i'd just say shotty build quality

I remember those issues from my evo...i never really used the kickstand(it's stupid to me really) and it was scratchd and the back of the phone did have some scratches on it as well...

if it's HTC, i'll say shotty quality

From what i hear, Samsung makes good quality products...supposedly they don't support their products

And why do you still hang out in the EVO forum? Every post I see from you is something negative.

Go get your Moto X and tell us how great Moto's quality is......hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

I know one thing for sure, if I owned a device and hated it so much, I wouldn't be hanging out in the forum for it on a regular basis.

So you are not happy with your phone because you bought a case that had the company's name on the inside which scratched your battery door cover. Yeah, those EVO's are really built like sh!t....lol

I would demand a new battery cover from HTC!

Phones get scratched if you don't keep them in a case hats just the way it is that's not a build quality issue. Your case transferred ink to the back of the phone and that's the phones fault? I fail to see that logic. That's like washing a load of white towels and put one new red one in there to. All of the white towels will now be pink. That's not the white towels fault its because the dye from the red towel.

Yes you have a right to complain on a forum, I'm not saying you can't but calling out build quality when a case left marks on your phone is not build quality issue its a case issue.

You scratched up your phone while running naked and bought a case that marked the phone's surface and you want to call it poor build quality? Gimme a break.

I ran my phone naked a while, have never hesitated to use the kickstand, and there are no scratches on mine. I didn't buy a case with a pattern so there is no transfer to the surface. The build quality is fine. The user quality, in this case, appears to be substantially less so.

I started reading your post as it said he was running naked and scratched his phone and in my head I was like, what body part would be capable of doing that....lol

novarider is right. Neither is current ownership of a device mandatory for posting in a forum here. Past user experience is a valuable source of info if pertinent to the topic being discussed. Of course, polite debate about such experiences is also valuable as users' experiences will undoubtedly vary. It would be a very strange (and boring!) world if everyone agreed 100%. :)

I do love a good double entendre ;)

Have you any idea how much mess is caused by snorting even a small amount of espresso???? That "running naked" line nearly killed my keyboard! :D

there is that nifty little feature AF has to hide or ignore posts by users :)

I post here as well as come here still because
1)I didn't know i had to own an Evo to post or visit the section
2)I have a father who has an evo and i like to keep him up to date on anything concerning his device...
3)Boredom...the evo forum always has something or someone to amuse me....

But hey I will let you know my opinion of the X when I get i :)

thanks for the comment!!!

See thats the thing, I didn't use the kick stand. It developed them simply from laying it down on a surface. If you notice the phone rests on the top of both the ring and the upper most part of the phone.

In my opinion that is poor planning/building on HTC's part. As to the case, its not ink. I should have clarified, the name of the company is embedded into the inside of the case. Though still plastic it left the marks on the back of the cover leading me to question the qualiy of the back itself, how durable is it when silicon can mark it.

I haven't mentioned the light leakage issues. People might be accepting it as norm but to me thats yet another step HTC screwed up in making this phone. An issue like that should have been caught and fixed in proper testing. It's as if the company did not bother to have any real life tests or found the issues and simply did not care.

I love HTC, I've owned on of their phones for 2 and a half years going back to the ATT Tilt to the Hero and now here to the Evo.

Honestly I'm not impressed. I know a lot of you simply seeing this as me complaining but I'm also trying to make a point. HTC rushed this phone in my opinion did not make it as best as they could have.

It is my belief that when people are unhappy with something, they like to make others just as unhappy if they can. Remember the often repeated phrase "misery loves company" that our Mama's taught us.

You have every right to post here whether you own an EVO or not, but since the majority of us here do, it kind of gets annoying reading all of your posts that have nothing good to say.

Man, if I was your dad I would walk around with earplugs when I was with you. lol

It's all good though, bash away, hopefully your X will be out soon and you can go bash those forums!

i say good things when good things are warranted....
i also speak negatively when warranted

it be different if i was never an evo owner who was constantly speaking down about the phone

but i was an evo owner so i do have a bit of credibility to make the remarks i make against the phone and sprint

I think people take the posts of evo owners complaining to heart when they shouldn't and in reality they should instead take the complaints and use them to their advantage of things to keep an eye out for on their own devices

you know learn from others mistakes & misfortunes

Your experience doesn't match that of many, if not most, of us here, so the only thing we are learning is that you are rapidly becoming a troll here.

Jebus, like you I am very OCD when it comes to keeping my tech as new as possible. Story:

My first EVO (bought launch day) worked just fine. However, I applied a ZAGG invisiSHIELD, and failed miserably at it. However, it was fine for a few weeks. Then, I got so fed up with the dust particles on the screen from my crappy job applying it, that I peeled it off to try again. Needless to say, the second time was even worse. Not only did I ruin the screen protector (stretched it out too far, but it eventually returned to its original size), but thought I ruined my phone in the process. The screen was all cloudy and had a giant 'bruise' on it. "OH NO, THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING!" I thought. Letting the phone dry for a few hours cured the screen and it was back to new. But having to use the screen without a protector on it for a few days irked me so much, that I returned it for a new one (within 30-day period) and kept the first use sticker on that phone until I rushed over to best buy to purchase another invisiSHIELD. That one I applied just fine. :)

Everyone is different when it comes to how they take care of their purchases, and like you, I like mine to stay in mint condition for resale value as well as peace of mind. I have never dropped any of my phones, and I take great care of them. I got $275 for my Touch Pro2 when I sold it on eBay.

And you wonder why people call you a troll?

And why do you continuously make threads about YOU? You didn't add anything or even respond to the OP.

Why don't you go nag your father to death.

I think you are failing to comprehend one thing: Carmen is a DIVA, and thus can do whatever and say whatever she wants! This is also true of hot people, which she is a member of as well.
