30% battery loss while asleep?

When I went to sleep last night my battery was charging. I woke up at some point in the night and unplugged it at 100%. When I got up this morning my phone was at 70%!!! Is that normal?

Also, I looked through my settings yesterday to see what might be running and tons of things were running that I've never even opened (for example the MP3 store). I know there is debate over using an app killer, but why are so many things running on my phone that I've never opened?

Thanks!

Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Network Mode > Change to GSM only

Look into Advanced Task Killer. It's a good program that sits in your notification bar (if you want it to ... otherwise you can use the widget) that will kill all active tasks. You can exclude programs that you don't want it to auto-close.

Also, check your sync settings. The more apps you have, the more that are syncing randomly. Go to Settings > Accounts & sync and look through the manage accounts section to see if there are any you can do without, for example anything you're willing to just sync manually when you use a particular program. Also check within each program in the sync settings to adjust how often things are syncing.

All those things should help build up your battery life. The battery's never going to last you a long long time but that will help you bleed it a little slower.

I dont think 30 percent loss is normal, unless you have tons of background apps runing in the night. Make sure your active syncs are off, only leave on syncs you totally care about.

Turn off background apps. As someone else suggested use advanced task killer. However, in the EVO chat room, people are saying that advanced task killer doesn't work, should be uninstalled, and causes more problems than it resolves. They are using something else in that forum room, i forget the name of the progrem.

This is what I do, I have news, weather syncs off, I only leave on email sync. I let my battery disharge all the way before I charge it back up. I put my haptic feed and vibrates and stupid noises on off. Put the brightness of the screen on lowest setting. I get what I would say is good battery life for this phone.

Ok there are a few things I did to save battery power. First, kill the weather app, it is constantly running and syncing. Kill the auto sync of the news and stock updates. These are preloaded. Kill TMobile sync. Dont ever Sync it again unless that is the only contact source you use. This will also get rid of your multiple duplicated contacts. Reduce the syncing of your Facebook and twitter apps. I stopped the auto syncing and went to sync on my demand. These actions alone gave me 4 more hours of battery, and I rarely use it as a phone :). I can now make it all day without charging while at work.
We are used to cell phones with text and email. Now the android apps are constantly running in the background killing battery power. I sync on demand. Whats a few more seconds?

OH here is something else you can do...it will increase battery life, but i'm not sure what the negative consequences are just yet. I've been running this setting for a while now, and I haven't seen my phone activing differenty.

go to setings, then wireless & networks... then mobile networks (the one that opens more options...not the one with the check box)...then go down to "enable always-on mobile data" if it has a check mark...uncheck the box...

that really actually added lots of battery life...it even has in tiny font "uses more power on some mobile networks"

MASTER LIST OF WHAT TO DO FOR BATTERY LIFE:

TURN OFF ALL SYNCS... accept necessary ones like email.
Run Advanced task killer for now, untill a better option is out.
Turn off stupid haptic feed back, vibrates, and any other stupid noises.
Turn off "enable always on mobile data"
Have screen brightness on lowest setting, unless you are outside under the sun and need a higher setting.
Turn wifi off... only turn on when needed.
Have bluetooth off,...only on when needed.
Have GPS off... only on when needed.. Gps technically only uses power when its being used...but you never know...a background app might be using it, without you knowing.
FInally, disharge your battery fully, then back to full charge... this will help also.

One last option, if you battery life is horrible still, get some extra batteries off e-bay... you can get 2 batteries, and an extra wall charger for 15 bucks courtsey of hong kong.

I honestly have no issues with battery life at all. I'm surfing the net many times a day, sending emails, getting emails. and making phone calls. just perfectly fine. I leave my house with a full charge, and by bed time I just recharge the phone.

I think I may get extra batteries also though, just incase i'm on a really busy day where i'm surfing the net 24.7 and making tons of cpu intensive tasks.

Advanced Task Killer drains your battery. Android is NOT MS windows. If you kill tasks, Android will just restart apps to preload them in memory. So you are just creating a vicious circle of killing and loading. This is how Linux is designed to run, task killers are for people who like to run MS windows, and don't understand Linux.

What you need to do is check your battery history and find out what is causing your battery to drain. For example, I had a calendar that was constantly trying to sync with a website that did not exist. I removed the cal, and now my battery doesn't drain.
