I called around and found the only verizon store that seems to be opening early on the 15th and he said he has a live one I can see. So I stopped by there earlier today and long story short, the phone is AWESOME!!

I had an iphone for 2+ years and then switched to the Evo and now am going to switch to the X.

Anyway, it felt really thin and light (thinner and lighter than the Evo). Whether or not it is, I'm not sure, but it sure felt that way. I loved the widget resizing! The buttons on the bottom are very nice and easy to use. I liked it that I can actually feel the buttons. I wasn't sure how I would feel about them coming from 3 years of button-less phones, but I definitely like them.

The camera button is also awesome, I really like that. I did notice I had to hold it down for a bit longer than expected, so maybe I was doing it wrong (I did half press and then full press though) or whatever. I still very much like the camera button! But if I was doing it right, then I could see some fuzzy pictures in my future as I had to hold it for like 2 seconds to take the pic. Even if it was the way that it is, I would imagine it could be fixed with a firmware update.

I also played a 'demo' video on it and it was awesome. For some reason the screen looks bigger on the X than the EVO's. I know it's very slightly bigger, but it must be the black bezel around it making it look even larger. But both phones look really great when watching a video.

The speed was terrific. I was on a 3G network (wifi off) and it was loading pages quite a bit faster than my Evo's 3G and definitely faster than my previous iphone (sprint signal sucks around me).

I really liked the stock browser - I currently use Dolphin HD, but might stick with the stock browser on the X. There is pinch to zoom on the X's browser, so not sure where I saw there wasn't, but there is!

I also paid attention to the text at the non zoomed level when the page loaded and while it wasn't easy to read, I could still read it. But I always double tap or pinch once a page loads.

The keyboard is plain and simply awesome. Leaps and bounds better than the EVO's and better than the iphone (imo). I typed several long sentences and made only one mistake. I also played with swype, but didn't play with it enough to decide whether or not I like it.

The dialer was very nice, I even like it more than the EVO's and I like the EVO's dialer. I espeically love how large it is! I also made a phone call to 1-800-flowers and a couple other places and it sounded extremely clear.

As for it being too big, personally I think the EVO feels like a bigger phone than this does. So if you're concerned it might be too big, go to a sprint store and hold the evo. If that's not too big, you'll be just fine with the X. And onto the whole size issue, I think a 3.5" screen looks too small now that I'm accustomed to the EVO's/X's 4.3"! Larger is definitely better for me, as these devices are basically a small fully functioning computer that you carry in your pocket.

Scrolling through the home screens, widgets, apps etc was a super smooth. I also don't see the problem that I saw in another review about the navigation icons on the bottom appearing for 1 second - I actually found it useful. Long story short I am definitely sold on the device. And on the verizon network??? Man this is awesome!!

My original primary reason for wanting to make the switch from the EVO was Sprints service. But now that I got to see the phone, I would switch to the X for the phone itself.

The biggest shock for me was how light and thin it felt in my hands. Oh and didn't even notice the 'hump' unless I turned it around and looked at it. The only thing I think I would have changed would be the back of the phone black instead of graphite grey.

The bad news? This was a HUGE corp store - like bigger than a walgreens and had like twenty something employees there today and he said they only have 40 units for the 15th but he "wished they had more" and hopes they get replenished quickly. Could just be to build up the hype though, who knows!

Here's a few pics I snapped!

lol wow over responsive...

I'll take that.

It is scary fast. Froyo is going to turn this into an animal.

Pinch to zoom is fast and smooth. Works VERY well. Seems faster than iPhone, but not quite as smooth.

The physical buttons are great. Feel nice and solid. Way better than capacitive.

The unit feels nice and solid, my wife remarked that it felt heavy. It is nice and thin, but the bump on top actually helps hold the phone.

The home screen arrows/dots that pop up to move between screens are very easy to use, and actually quite convenient.

Probably gonna pick one up in August.

After making a call to our VZ store last week and having a talk to one of the salesmen about the X, he said he would put our names on two of them for release day. Yesterday he called to tell us he had a "dummy" X in the store if we wanted to come get an idea of what it felt like so today we went in and had a look. I think the size is just right, fits in a shirt pocket no problem and is really quite slim even with the bump at the camera end. Its unfortunate that there wasnt a working example available but at least now I know what to expect size wise. I already ordered a couple screen protectors that should be here the first of the week.

He said the store had 60 phones and he put our name on three of them although we only want two, just to be on the safe side. Ive got a 9am appointment on Thursday morning so its just a matter of time now!

I too had the EVO and returned because of dropped calls. I loved that phone, so when I preordered the X, I only hoped I would like it as much. This sounds very encouraging!
