Insurance question Best Buy/Asurion

How does Best Buy's phone insurance compare to Asurion's? I've had to use Asurion once before (on my Incredible) and they were great, sent me a new phone the next day.

However, if I'm buying the X at Best Buy (I returned my Incredible to VZW) will I be able to get verizon to add asurion insurance on the x?

I've heard that BB is more expensive, but there is no deductible, so I dunno who to choose.

Yes, you can get the asurion insurance on the X if you get it at Best Buy.

Mobile Phones
There is the information for the Best Buy black tie protection, it's 9.99 for the X. It's not an instant process, we do send it out for repairs, but there is no deductible and we don't do refurbrished phones. It really depends on which one fits your needs better, read up and be informed :)

Aookay:

I feel it incumbent upon me to reiterate the point that no one covers lost phones, but some cover stolen. Apples to apples. BB doesn't cover lost/stolen. I don't have a scientific analysis, but I would venture a guess that most folks lose their phones. If they do..they are SOL with BB's plan.

Perhaps most people don't lose their phones. I do. My daughter (has a curve) does. Runs in the family. ;)

Just sayin'.

I prefer using SquareTrade

Cell Phone Insurance Alternative | Cellphone Insurance Alternative | Cell Phone Warranty | Cellphone Warranty | SquareTrade Warranties

-Square Trade cost $2.46 a month for 24 months ($59) for $199 of coverage, $4 a month for 24 months ($96) for $399, or $6 a month for 24 months ($144). It can be canceled at time if you sell your device and SquareTrade will refund you the remaining balance in your account. So if you were sell you phone after a year and you were on the $599 they would give you $72 dollars back

Please review listing below for a comparison. I may be wrong on some of them. This is just what I have found from my investigation.

Buying from Best Buy using or not using their insurance: (Worst Support in my opinion)
-Best Buy will only support the phone for 30 days days after you buy it.
-You have 30 days to return the phone and there is no restocking fee
-You have to work with the manufacturer for any defects after 30 days of purchased phone for manufacturer defects only if you don't have insurance.
-Best Buy will send your phone at for a minimum of 2 weeks for repairs for any insurance claims (does not cover lost or stolen). At which time you can pay $150 for a loner phone that you will receive back when you return the phone
-Best Buy insurance is $9.99 a month

Buying from Best Buy using Asurion: (Bett than Worst Support in my opinion)
-Best Buy will only support the phone for 30 days days after you buy it.
-You have 30 days to return the phone and there is no restocking fee
-Asurion will send an Asurion refurbished phone that is either the same phone or similar to the one you have after you pay the $50 dollar deductible. It covers everything from damaged to stolen.
-Asurion insurance can very per phone from $6-$9

Buying from Verizon using or not using Asurion insurance: (Okay Support in my opinion)
-Verizon will only support the phone for 1 year days after you buy it. 2 years if you get the extended warranty
-You have 30 days to return the phone and there is a $35 restocking fee
-Verizon will send a refurbished phone without battery or cover after 30 days of purchased phone for manufacturer defects only.
-Asurion will send an Asurion refurbished phone that is either the same phone or similar to the one you have after you pay the $50 dollar deductible. It covers everything from damaged to stolen.
-Asurion insurance can very per phone from $6-$9

Buying from Verizon using Square Trade insurance: (Best Support in my opinion)
-Verizon will only support the phone for 1 year days after you buy it. 2 years if you get the extended warranty
-You have 30 days to return the phone and there is a $35 restocking fee
-Verizon will send a refurbished phone without battery or cover after 30 days of purchased phone for manufacturer defects only.
-Square Trade will send you the money for whatever coverage you chose ($199, $399, or $599) for damaged, anything to covered under warranty; not lost or stolen Thank you thenew3 and Steven58
-Square Trade cost $2.46 a month for 24 months ($59) for $199 of coverage, $4 a month for 24 months ($96) for $399, or $6 a month for 24 months ($144). I've been using SquareTrade for years and can vouch for them. I've had 3 issues that have come up where they have sent me the money that I have insured for. One for a Harmony remote on Ebay, one was for a Archos 5 I bought on Ebay. The other was a Touch Pro 2 I purchased from Verizon. After they sent me the check I went out and got a different phone completely.

No one covers lost phones? That's false. Asurion through Verizon Wireless covers lost phones. I've lost several through the years, and once this year, and they replaced it.

I'm very, very sorry. What I meant to say was that no one ELSE covers lost phones besides assurion. I don't know why I said it like that.

To me, the chance of me dropping my phone and breaking it or the phone pooping out on me is 400 times greater than me losing it :)

But as I said, each person is different. The Black Tie Protection works for me, but not for everyone.

For me? Whatever can happen to a phone? .... DOES! Steven58 rule of thumb. ;)

I think this is wrong, I never said no one covers lost phones..

All I did was link to the Best Buy protection plan and say that I never lose my phone.

"I feel it incumbent upon me to reiterate the point that no one covers lost phones," was said by Steven58.

"Asurion does cover lost phones maybe do some research before posting saying someone else is wrong."

If that was directed at me, I didn't say anything about Asurion other than you can get the Asurion insurance if you get a phone through Best Buy. I never said anyone was wrong or even said "asurion doesn't cover lost phones". I think you are mistaking me for someone else :)

I have never carried insurance for a device or anything else I can remember. Consumer Reports years ago reported how poor they generally were and I have always followed that reasoning.

Paying $2-10/month for coverage and then having a deductible too. Sure if you break or lose a $500 phone in first few weeks you own it, it can be expensive. But, in general you are gambling that you will loose/break your device and the insurance company is gambling that you won't. They generally win this bet, otherwise they wouldn't be in business.

I have had mobile devices since 1998 and I have only broke 1, lost 0. The one I broke was in a motorcycle accident. It cost me $300 to replace and I sold the broken one for $80. So in 13 years, I have spend $220 on "Insurance" for a dozen devices or less than $20/year.

Of course I am old, maybe not so accident prone, etc. I did drop my Blackberry off my motorcycle last week, but it didn't break :D
