So as I take it if your contract is up in 2010 you can upgrade on July 15th to any smart-phone... My gosh dang contract is not up till 1/16/11...

with that being said... has anyone had any luck getting Verizon to bump you up for that promo when your contract expiration date has been that close to 2010??

i really want the Droid X and if i have to pay full retail my girlfriends going to kill me.... im supposed to be saving for a house... but lets be real droid x is wayyyy more important than any house... :D:rolleyes:

You can try what I and others have done. Call up Verizon CS line, and mention about the upgrade promo and that you want to buy the Droid X next week.

Say that you asked your local VZW corporate store manager if they could bump up your upgrade date to now, but that he said you'd have to call the CS line to ask about that.
That way, the CS person won't say to go ask a local manager lol.

Just mention how your contract end date is very close to being in 2010 to be eligible, and ask if they can possibly move up your upgrade date instead to now or something so you can get the upgrade price when you re-sign for 2 more years :)

Worked for me on the first try with a female CS rep. She took about 10 min "asking" her manager what they can do for me, and that was it! I checked my account online while I was still talking to her and the date was showing as that day now instead of September. I was so happy lol.

Don't you hate having to save for "important" stuff?? LoL

My contract wasn't up until 1/2/11 and I can confirm they made me eligible to upgrade next week. I asked them to note my account, and when I talked to the rep in store two days ago, I told them the date I talked to them and they saw the note and confirmed I could upgrade.

So yes it is possible, it took me a couple of tries so don't give up if you get turned down a few times.

An upgrade is always possible. I wasn't eligible until June 14, 2011. After I made a few phone calls and sent a handful of e-mails, Verizon agreed to give me what I wanted. The key points in talking to Verizon into giving you what you want are be polite and make sure to tell them what you want without being demanding. I found email conversation to be easier than over the phone or in person because it's much harder for someone to try to "sell" you something you don't want via email.

It's also important to note that they will try to offer you other things but you need to stick by your guns. The majority of my conversations had the undertone of "this is the end result, and I'm just here to discuss how we're going to make it happen."

The final response I received from Verizon, which was after they offered me one year contract pricing if I were to pick up my phone from Verizon or order over the phone which didn't really fit into my pre-order plan.

"The representative was allowing you a discount at one year pricing because you did not qualify for the two year pricing plan. However, I certainly appreciate your loyalty to Verizon Wireless. Therefore, I have requested your upgrade date to be changed to allow you to purchase a device at promotional prices at any Authorized location. Which means, you will be able to purchase the Droid X when it is available at the Best Buy location. The representatives at the Best Buy location as well as yourself will be able to see the change of your upgrade date within 24 hours of the transmission of this email."

Good luck, and stay strong!

Anyone know if you have to be the primary line to get the early upgrade? I was under the impression that anyone with the contract end date in 2010 could get the early upgrade. Then I was surfing the forums on the Verizon site and a VWZ CSR said primary line only.

Anyone?

Bel isi,
-kyle

Nope not true, my wife is the primary and I am the secondary and they moved me up to be able to upgrade. So it does not have to be the primary line.

Have you thought about adding another line for the 6 moths until your contract is up? that would only be an aditional $60 ($10 x 6 months ) instead of paying full retail?

If you currently have a smart phone, swap it out for a dumb phone so you can drop the data charges once you activate the new line with the droid x. After it's activated have the numbers switched... better than paying $569 vs. $199

Thank you for contacting Verizon Wireless via our Website, my name is Laynetta. I can certainly understand your concern with having your upgrade date changed on XXX-XXX-XXXX. Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to your message and any inconvenience this matter has caused. I will be happy to assist you with your concern.

Since you are a valued customer, a request has been submitted to have your upgrade date for XXX-XXX-XXXX changed to 07/10/2010. Please allow up to 24 hours for the change to be processed. I called Friday and had my NE2 date moved up by 2 weeks, first call I got turned down flat even though I've been a customer for over 10yrs. I even escalated to a Manager who immediately said no one is getting NE2 dates changed, only upgrade dates which I didn't need. I immediately called back less than 2 minutes later, said the exact same thing and got my date changed on the spot.

so who do we email to try and get our ne2 moved up?? my ne2 is in august and i'm bound and determined to get it this time because i haven't used it in 3-4 years.

i just don't know what to say in an email without it sounding like "i would like this to happen. thank you!" or get too overly cocky saying 'i've been a loyal customer for ___ years...."

If you haven't used it for that long wouldn't you be able to use one from a previous upgrade cycle.

no because for the last 3-4 years i've been doing the annual upgrade which forfeits the ne2 discount for another 1.5 years.
this last 1.5 years is the longest i've had the same phone in a long time. and oddly it's the bb storm 1 and i am so ready to get rid of this thing.

Good News!!! Called Verizon did a little bit of "talking" and instead of 1 line being pushed up to get the upgrade they pushed up the upgrade dates for 2 lines... soon as i told them I would be getting 2 driod x's they were all about pushing up the 2nd line... Now best part is is that i did make sure that this was noted on the account but i also had them send me a txt message saying that the numbers that end in **** and **** are ready for an upgrade now... so when i go down to the store on Thursday they wont be able to be playing any funny business!

i tried emailing yesterday and got denied this morning for them to move my ne2 date up a month.
i'm really not that worried about waiting a month but just figured i would take a shot at it. the lady who called me (and left a message) sounded nice though.
her reasoning was because my ne2 is already 4 months before the end of my contract date(december). booooo

Honestly, an inquiry like this should really be handled over the phone, especially by requesting to speak to a supervisor/manager who can handle the issue almost immediately.

I would also stress the fact that you plan on continuing service with Verizon for at least another one/two years; also if you've been with the "Big Red" long enough, they shouldn't hassle you over something like this.
