My Horrid EVO Number 4 Adventure. Sprint and Radio Shack Try To Screw Me..

Well last night was a horror story when I went to pick up EVO number 4 at Radio Shack. I spent over 3 hours at the R/S store getting the phone replaced. To make a long story short Evo #3 was replaced through Sprint service because Radio Shack could not get me a phone for at least 3 weeks Sprint arranged a service replacement handset (no battery or sd card) sent to the local sprint service center store for the replacement exchange. Then just one week later the OTA update bricked my handset that they just replaced. I again called the service center and was told because it was part of the OTA "bricking" I could only get it replaced now through the selling agent Radio Shack and they would call R/S and make the arrangements and they did. Cut to last night.............
I get to the store the kid goes Oh yea your the guy that Sprint called us about that got bricked by the OTA we have your phone put away. Takes out the box and unwraps the handset programs it all good then he starts with the paperwork. Says ahhhh the ESN isn't matching the last phone we gave you I say its because Sprint replaced it for me when you didn't have any coming in. Kid goes we can't take this phone back its Sprints phone not R/S!!! you have to go back to Sprint. Then I say well didn't Sprint call you two weeks ago and tell you I had to get the phone replaced at your store because they bricked it with the OTA?? Well yea but this is Sprints phone I can't take it back!!! We didn't sell you this phone!!! I'm like OMFG he gets on the phone with C/S and starts screaming at Sprint and they hang up on him. He calls again after an hour on the phone he gets disconnected again and still no resolution.
Now I call Sprint on the new phone thats already activated mind you again we go around and around finally Sprint says I should take the phone to another Sprint store 40 miles away and they will put me on another waiting list to get another phone from them. I EXPLODE then the Radio Shack kid takes the phone and says I have already been without a handset for two weeks why should I be made to wait on still another list why can't they just send that store another phone overnight Sprint refuses. It ends up im now there a 1/2 hour past the stores closing time with no resolution and the kid just hands me the new EVO and says go I don't know what else to do I hope I don't get fired. I called Sprint today and continued my bitching about what had happened. Sprint said R/S should have just given me the handset and they would work it out with R/S. Sprint paid my bill for the month for my trouble but IMO they still suck. THE END Sprint You Suck and Radio Shack You Do Too!

Radioshack did nothing wrong, as soon as you exchanged your phone with Sprint you lost your ability to deal with Radioshack. Why would Radioshack take back a phone they didnt sell you? I think you got lucky with the guy at Radioshack. It is Sprint that gave you bad advice.

Not really Sprint said Radio Shack is a selling agent of Sprint and Sprint ultimately gets the defective phones back anyway and gives the store a credit for it.

Umm I thought that last Evo you had was going back because of something to do with vibrating and chimes after the OTA. It wasn't bricked.

Yes but Sprint said it was un repairable because of the OTA. Hence its still a bricked phone. Not all the OTA damage was the same on each handset but it was still not repairable acording to the service center. Hence "bricked"

Another reason why I only buy phones from sprint.com! Wife and I have been with sprint for 14 years and I think I've only walked into their stores 3 times. I would never buy a phone from BB or RS either. Too many idiots between the problem and its resolution. I try to keep the idiot ratio low in my life. How's the new phone btw?

Although you say Sprint sucks, they did try to make it right and pay your first months bill. Sure, you went through a lot of trouble, but at least they didn't just tell you to screw off. Just my opinion.

Yes but you must also figure 2 weeks of that bill I had a phone that didn't always work. Most of the time I couldn't make out going calls because the screen would go dead along with the ringers.

I think it comes down to how little they are making from selling these phones. They have no incentive to service problems so they just pass the buck.

Yep. The Sprint Guy today also said that the OTA mess up caused Sprint a lot of grief and that I was not the only one and Sprint didn't prepare properly for people that might be sold a defective phone. He said that Sprint made no provision to have replacements on hand to replace defective handsets that everything they had in they sold and they didn't keep any reserve for exchanges.

Why would you say Sprint sucks?? Didn't they fix the problem, to YOUR advantage?? The only way I will leave Sprint is if the really screw me over, they are bought out or go out of business. Every time I had a problem, they fixed it satisfactorily!!

Sprint didnt fix anything really. They wanted me to go on still another waiting list. The Radio Shack kid was the one in the end that gave in and gave me the new phone.

Is there a device you don't have problems with? You had tons of Blackberry devices on CB that had 'problems' and now the same thing seems to be happening with android devices. Interesting.

Most everyone I know had problems with the BB Storm. I was hoping HTC made a better product and they do but problem free it has not been. So the answer to your question is YES.

Just curious...which one didn't have any problems?

To be honest? The IPhone 3Gs I had was the best phone I ever owned but AT&T has VERY POOR signal and service where I live and thats why I gave it up. When I was in an area of signal the phone was very good. It seems now the Iphone 4 is a dud however, So how can you really tell?

BM, you may drive me crazy but no one needs the run around you got.

So how is new phone. Please say you are happy so far.

I am happy with it. The screen is not as recessed and flush as the one the OTA screwed up but its not loose so thats no biggie. Someone had posted a few days ago about how loud the vibrator is and yes this new one is an INSANE vibrator to the point you can hear it 10 feet away and it does feel like an electric shock when you touch the screen its so strong. I'm thinking the guy that said he was getting shocked by the phone was not really getting shocked at all but over vibrated. Its either a new type vibrator or they have put more power to the old one now because it is really really strong. This new one was built June 23rd and is a HW3 version like the old one was but that one was built May 31st. Otherwise so far so good.

Have you thought, enough is enough, and just quit?

Customer service varies by location. You seem to be in a area with low customer service.

You are on your 4 phone now. At some point you have to ask, is it worth it?

The next phone will have light leakage, the next one will have screen issues, the next will be bricked by a another software update.

It seems that you can not win with sprint. So why not just cut bait and go fish else where.

Droid x is just coming out, and has great reviews, why not just go to them, get the build quality you expect. By mid 2011 Verizon will have the iphone 5, you can move back to apple.

I am not saying this to be snotty or to be a pain, but it is the truth, sometimes you just can not get what you want, and sometimes there is a need to move on.

So far, you only seem to find the negative in the htc evo. So far, nothing has pleased you. So maybe you just need to give up. So far, you come here, post the most outlandish things, scream until you are blue about issue that are only rumors, and waste your valuable time.

The quality of the phones are not going to get majorly better then they are now.

I tried Verizon and I also had signal problems with them in my area for some reason. What I am looking for is the closest thing I can find similar to the Iphone I had. The Storm was a good idea but that pushy squishy touch screen was terrible to type on and the EVO is a much better match to what I was looking for and I really do like it. A phone is like a friend you have to be compatible with it in order to have a good interface on a daily basis. I can live with Sprints service its better than I had with AT&T and the EVO in some ways I find better than the IPhone if only they would have de- bugged it better at launch but like I said before Apple isn't any better with the 4 model now it would seem.
