Help Will the Ally get 2.2?

Does anyone have a definitive answer to this? The only reason it's important to me is because I need to be able to sync my device with Outlook. I tried CompanionLink USB (supposedly the only software to accomplish this) but it syncs with it's own systems, not the native Contact or Calendar app.

I've also tried to sync my Outlook info with my Google account but I can't get that to work for whatever reason. I'm getting frustrated.

Why LG's own sync software doesn't work with the Ally is beyond me...that would solve all my problems.

If anyone has any insight it would be greatly appreciated.

I doubt even LG has the answer to this at this time. It seems to me that it should get 2.2, especially since they appear to be phasing out the Droid Eris. It's now the best android phone for less than $100. I did read somewhere that it may take the Ally a little longer to get 2.2 than other phones because of the LG themed skin. This was also only speculation.

There were all kinds of questions like these regaurding the 2.1 update. What they did was hold some of the more resource intensive apps out of the phones that couldn't handle them. From what I can tell there aren't many resource hogging features in the 2.2 update, simply optimizations. One thing that I'm not sure on is whether or not Flash will be supported with the Ally.

agreed the cortex a8 is a much faster and more efficient processor than the dated Arm11. thats why he stated that the droid has better battery life in the video from wirefly even though the droid is pushing a larger display. You can benchmark test, and look at spec sheets all you want, but in real world use the Droid will absolutely smoke the ally. I was really excited about the Ally when I first heard of it. I have always hated motorola and loved LG. but I was really disappointed in the Ally. The specs looked good, but the real world performance just doesn't cut it.

I just emailed LG and asked thin will the ally get the 2.2 update and he told me that the ally will get the 2.2 update. But there is no set date.

This may no longer be the case. Over on the LG Community forums, the moderator posted that the Ally's usable memory is too low for the current 2.2, so it looks like at least for the short term, no 2.2...

If there's not going to be a 2.2 for this device, I'll definitely have to look for something else for my wife when her NE2 is up.

They will issue bugfixes (and apparently have the Exchange Calendar sync in the pipeline now), but you're right, doesn't look promising getting an OS upgrade on this device..

If it was LG's first time at the rodeo so to speak, it wouldn't be so bad, but the Ally was NOT the first LG android phone, so they should have taken OS upgrades into account when making it.

Then someone is going to have write some roms for this phone, cause i don't think none are on the way except for a few bug fixes:(

I sent an email to LG on friday and was told that it WILL be getting the 2.2 update, but they don't know when. So there is either some miscommunication going on, or it is still up in the air.

so did i, i asked them about it what i read up online about memory space and all that and i got this back.

Dear Greg,

Thank you for your email. I will be more than happy to assist you with this.

At this moment, our technicians have not determined yet if the LG Ally will be able to upgrade to the 2.2 version. However, as soon as we get this information, it will be posted in our website.

Hope this helps.

From the talk on android 2.2 for ally? - LG Forum - LG Mobile Phone Forums - Carriers - Verizon it's still "officially" up on the air. "Unofficially" it's a dead point. Plan on patches to fix what bugs they can but it's 80% that the Ally isn't getting FroYo.

There is very very little cost difference between a 512mb NAND chip and a 256mb NAND chip. So since 2.2 allows for mem addressing above 256mb they could do a HW revision 2 that has more memory and would work with future updates (as well as make the device much quicker and more stable).

The real question is: What can we do to get Lg to solve this issue?
