Accessories HTC Evo Car Kit - Available When?

When you say car dock what does that include?

When I think car dock i'm thinking: 1) Holds phone easily in view 2) Charges phone properly

Are you guys looking for more? Because right now I just throw on a silicone case, run a GTMax cable from my charging port on the truck and put the phone on my steering colum covering the MPH (I put on GPS speed programs)

yeah, something like that, except the official car dock will put your phone in some sort of nav mode when sat into the dock.
i'm sure we've all considered alternatives but we are waiting for the official car dock. i'll accept no less.

The feature you are talking about is for the Motorola phones that uses the docking sensors built into the phone. I have never see it on an HTC phone.

If you know something we don't, then link it, because I haven't heard of this dock you're talking about for EVO's. For the Motorola Droid's, sure, but not EVO's.

I picked up the SoundGate M2 mount. I love it, best car mount I've ever used. I like the fact that it doesn't have to be mounted to the glass. I affixed it's "disc" to a cheap $6 plastic case, so I just pop the phone in and out of that.

  • Hold the phone
  • Charge the phone
  • I guess if there is no audio over Micro-USB you can just use a regular 3.5mm to 3.5mm plug to patch into your stereo
I don't want it automatically in nav mode because lots of times I don't want it for nav...just streaming or saved audio into my stereo while charging.

uh, pretty sure the HD2 does it.
one sec...

edit: i was correct. there is a nav mode that the HD2 is kicked into so i don't see why they'd leave that feature out of our phone.

If there is no audio out on the base (where the usb plug is) then I'll pass and find something cheaper. I don't feel like paying top dollar for a sleek looking car dock only to have an audio cable hanging out the top of the phone (assuming the dock still allows access to the audio jack at the top).

if the phone allows playback in nav mode, you should still be able to hook it up via usb. the usb cable runs from the base of the dock to a cigarette adapter. so instead of plugging it into the cigarette adapter, you could just plug it into whatever you were before.

Thanks. Ideally I am looking for something with a cigarette lighter charger that can split the audio off the usb charging cable from the phone and output it to a cable that plugs in aux audio jack in car.

I found this other thread that describes a similar desired set-up:

For what it is worth, I am no longer in the market for a car dock. It turns out that the ash try holds it perfectly if it is turned sideways. This works on two vehicles. I've driven thousands of miles this way with no problem. I just bought a $12 car charger with the micro USB end to keep it charged, and it works great.

since the car dock hasn't been released yet, i can't really dive too much into this specific topic since i haven't tested it out. but my thoughts on the matter are that an aftermarket stereo with usb input is the best way to go. again, this is if the nav mode allows for audio play back. just a lot of ifs lol.
as soon as i get it, though, that'll be the first thing i test out (both aux in and usb audio playback)

Just get LiquidAUX Bluetooth car adapter. This way you can play music over Bluetooth while charging your phone via USB.

I have a guy I deal with at a Sprint Store in Cincinnati who can get the oem car kit now.

Ask fo AJ @ 513-759-5600 opt 1, then 3 if he's not around have them call AJ. My buddy got one yesterday and he shipped it to Florida.

Tell him you want the EVO car kit and the free screen protectors. I think it was under $62 shipped to me. I got it today and it is really nice. It also come with a car charger.

PIcs or youre lying.

Do you really feel your post is a contribution? Have we all gotten so used to being anonymous that we lack any kind of basic social graces anymore?

The poster is not in fact lying, but has no need to prove the truth of their statement to you.

Unlike your post, theirs is adding value to this forum. Multiple people have already ordered from the source identified.

Please folks, let's lay off the caveman behavior and treat each other with some uncommon (unfortunately) courtesy.

And yet your post in which criticizes me for saying I wanted proof is not adding any value either. I'm sorry I don't look through every single topic and thread and didn't know someone posted pics. Instead of pointing out that I'm not adding anything to this thread (which is quite ironic in itself) you could of just posted a link to the other thread instead of trying to belittle me in the fashion you chose to do so.

Can anyone say that's like the pot calling the kettle black?

And my post wasn't discourteous in any fashion. I just wanted pics. Tons of people get on here saying they got something on early release or their phone does something that no one knew about yet they never post pics. So therefor I wanted evidence.

Take your own advice bud.
