Help Apps running in the background

No way to avoid it and most likely they aren't even running. They phone just loads them up at start up for ease of use and quicker load times.

Ditch your task killer and download System Panel. It will tell you what programs are currently running and which are sitting idle in the background. It will give you details about each program, tell you how long it has been since start time, and tell you how long it has used the CPU. You'll notice that a lot of those programs in the background have taken 0s of CPU time and thus haven't consumed any battery power.

Yup. It has a task killer built in but you'll find yourself using it a lot less once you realize that all those apps sitting in the background aren't running and aren't sipping any battery juice.
thanks, gonna check it out. I've had my incredible for a week now and loving it. Came from a bb storm and feel like electricity was just invented.
thanks again

Is System Panel the same type of app as Android System Info?
Android System Info - Android app on AppBrain

I saw that one recommended in the Tips & Tricks section and it looks like it's got a lot of information. Good reviews, too.

If they are the same thing I will just pick one of them. But if they're different I'll get em both.

Kind of.. Here is the guy who created it with a few screen shots.

One cool thing you can do is plot your usage over a time period (2 hours, 8 hours, 1 day, etc..) and find out what uses most of your battery and at what time of the day it occurred. If high drainage occurred around 2 30 PM... You realized you were in a basement and your battery got sucked into oblivion by the signal searching gods ;)

I bought it and like it.
