Pros and Cons of both the Evo and the Epic

I am going to be returning my evo soon and either picking up another or waiting for the Epic to finally come out. I am in the mean while formulating ideas and the pros and cons of one phone over the other.

Getting the Epic, I would:
- Lose some screen size .3 inches.
-Lose HDMI out
-Sense

-Gain a higher quality screen
-Full physical qwerty keyboard
-Better camera
-Better media playback

Is there anything that I am missing?

I thought Epic's camera was a step down from Evo as well.

From The Megapixel Myth

The Myth

The megapixel myth was started by camera makers and swallowed hook, line and sinker by camera measurebators. Camera makers use the number of megapixels a camera has to hoodwink you into thinking it has something to do with camera quality. They use it because even a tiny linear resolution increase results in a huge total pixel increase, since the total pixel count varies as the total area of the image, which varies as the square of the linear resolution. In other words, an almost invisible 40% increase in the number of pixels in any one direction results in a doubling of the total number of pixels in the image. Therefore camera makers can always brag about how much better this week's camera is, with even negligible improvements.

This gimmick is used by salespeople and manufacturers to you feel as if your current camera is inadequate and needs to be replaced even if the new cameras each year are only slightly better.

One needs at least a doubling of linear resolution or film size to make an obvious improvement. This is the same as quadrupling the megapixels. A simple doubling of megapixels, even if all else remained the same, is very subtle. The factors that matter, like color and sharpening algorithms, are far more significant.

The megapixel myth is also prevalent because men always want a single number by which something's goodness can be judged.

Unfortunately, it's all a myth because the number of megapixels (MP) a camera has has very little to do with how the image looks. Even worse, plenty of lower MP cameras can make better images than poorer cameras with more MP.

Epic 4G:

Pros:
Better screen
Better GPU
No 30 FPS cap
Better multi-touch
Better HD video recording (no 10 FPS cap)
DNLA capable
Better camera
Better video codecs
6 axis accelerometer
Probably better battery life due to more efficient SAMOLED screen

Cons:
Physical keyboard
Smaller screen
No HDMI out
1.5mm thicker than the EVO
Samsung's poor history of supporting updates
TouchWiz 3 (A possibility, but I don't know, never used it)
5 device hotspot capability as opposed to 8

That's debatable, some prefer the physical keyboards.

The Samsung Epic / Iphone have a 5 megapixel camera made by the same manufacturer that makes the Evo 8 megapixel camera.

The Sensor is the same size, which essentially means that even though the Evo has more pixels, they aren't as "sensitive" as the Iphone/Samsung camera. You want "sensitive" pixels to soak up as much light as possible. Makes for better pictures in all shooting conditions.

That being said..... The Epic is a Samsung product. Read up on the Moment, it was quite the fail. I am leery of Samsung products.

yup like my brother or my wife but i just stick with the evo, there is no solution from htc with the camera so i just keep my flip in case i need to record videos and the phone for some pictured since they don't look bad, anyways back in topic, i like the epic 4g but the keyboard not too much, the super amoled display looks really nice. i don't like the UI tho(i know you can always get another one) it looks like a cheap iphone launcher lol( i had an iphone) and Samsung support on their devices really sucks, i had several phones(instinct, instinct hd, moment and Omnia) and seriously fell like done with samsung, i do like there HDTVs tho, but yeah is all up to the user, i won't say the phone is bad or anything is just the impressions of samsung in the past made me decide for the EVO 4G

While I also agree that samsungs support of their phones has been anything but good(especially the Behold II fiasco) but the galaxy S line is their baby. It's launching in 110 countries and roll outs of 2.2 are rolling out in south korea in a week or two. Shouldn't be too long before the update makes it state side.
