Remove Crap From Android (How To)?

I have noticed that every time I install a new app and then remove it my internal memory doesn't go back up to where it was before installing such app. For example say I installed App X and before installing App X I had 105MB of free space. Once I installed App X I now have 90MB of space. One I removed the app for what ever reason now it looks like I have 95MB of free space instead of going back to 105MB. Anyone knows where all this junk is getting store and how to remove it?

(Droid Eris/Running 2.1)

just like a program on your computer, each application that you download has to store its data somewhere. These files and folders are often left behind in the uninstall process. try clearing the data from an app before you unistall it. Also try resetting your phone after an uninstall, and then check the available memory. sometimes things just need to be reset after you remove an app.

oh yeah. That doesn't fix things. I wonder where is the folder where all this crap gets store and how to get to it? This way we can remove all this garbage thats left behind by other apps. Should really helps us clean our devices a bit.
Root. The folder is on the phone's internal memory, more than likely under the "cache" folder, but its not user accessible without root.

yeah you can always go thru and clear cache and data on apps that are still installed. the problem is how to you recover the precious space those apps take up once you uninstall them. I think clearing the cache/data then uninstalling, then rebooting should prove fruitful.
Maybe this is a dumb question, but, how do you clear cache/data?

go to settings, applications, manage applications. from there you will see a list of all apps on your phone (by default both system and third party apps will appear and it may take a little bit for the list to populate) once there hit menu and sort by size. My personal rule of thumb is clear cache on everything over 1 MB. Just select each program and you will see a button for clearing cache. Now some programs will give you the option to clear data as well (ie Facebook) but unless you are planning to uninstall the app I would leave that alone as it erase you settings and user logins.

The Android Market has a cache, too. If you've been through there to install/uninstall an app, there will be some data cached in the Market, which you can clean out through Manage Applications in Settings.

Yeap, I always clearing out the cache from all the usual suspects like Marketplace, Browser, Youtube app and so forth.

Yeah thats what I need, to recover the space of removed apps...it looks like rooting the device is the only way to go.
