Order online first, check stores second?

Would there be any way for me to order the X online ASAP, check the stores tomorrow, and if I find one in stores, pick it up and cancel the online order? This way the online order is kinda like insurance :D Just have to make sure my order is canceled before 4:30 p.m. if i find one in stores, right?

Two credit checks from the same vendor or about the same type of transaction do not ding your account with in the same week, let alone the same day. :D

I beg to differ. Check creditboards.com and you'll see they absolutely affect your scores if both inquiries post. Just check myfico before and after ;)

Where it won't affect your scores is if the verizon credit check system is smart enough not to re-pull your credit and use the one it pulled earlier that day.

I don't think they do credit checks with contract renewals/upgrades. I ordered a Droid Incredible in the middle of last month AND extended the contract (I subsequently cancelled the order 3 weeks later but I digress). Everything was approved over the phone and the charge hit my account for the phone. After seeing this post I ran copies of my credit report from all 3 agencies and there has been NO inquiries made on my credit by anyone.

I think they definitely check your payment history but they need some sort of verbal or written authorization to run a credit check, like you would get if you were opening a NEW account with them.

ahh bpman...that sounds more like it. I just assumed liability of my line last month, coming from a family share plan, and they made sure that I knew that they were going to check my credit ( told me multiple times) before they actually did it while we were on the phone. But with the news that i just got about the midnight launch party here in Roanoke, I dont think i will have to bother with any of these details anymore :D

ok...just called a local Verizon store here in Roanoke, Va and they are having a midnight launch with 100 - 110 units! :D needless to say, I'll be a zombie at work tomorrow! :D :D :D

I hate you*. I was going to bed nice and early tonight. Now I'm not. Because I'm in Blacksburg...so I'm driving 45 minutes to Roanoke.
Are they requiring any sort of registration/etc. or just having you show up? Also, is that the Salem store, or the other store actually in Roanoke?

*not really

ha i called the store near the Valley View mall here in Roanoke. I'm here on business and staying at the Sheraton which is like .5 miles from the store :D See you there!

the girl on the phone did not mention anything about registration. all she said was that they have between 100 - 110 units and that they had canceled the party once, but just started it up again about three days ago. maybe that means no one else know about it! :D

yeah, i would hate that too. I'm planning on getting there about 10:30, just because I dont have a car and the hotel shuttle stops running at 11 (gonna take a taxi back i guess). Plus i dont have anything else to do :) So I may be one of the first ones there i guess. You will see me there, I'll be the guy with the biggest goofiest grin on his face ----> :D

My first choice is online since I don't want the hassle of a rebate in the form of a pre-paid credit card. The corporate store is my backup plan. I can live without a new phone for a day... if it wasn't until Monday, that'd be a different deal.

BTW, Verizon's website was VERY SLOW today when I check at work.

Why should it effect your score to start with? I never could figure out why having someone check you credit hurts the score? Anyone care to explain?

Excellent! Thanks for the info! I hope no one else knows, but I guess I should probably get there around 11:30.....I can't tell if I'm being paranoid or not, I'd hate to drive 45 minutes for nothing:(

You're going to get there and find out they're all being held for the preorders they didn't take:rolleyes:

How far is that from Florida?
Anyone in the Tampa FL area know of any midnight openings

heh......I see a huge flaw in this plan.

You order the phone online. You go to your local store, find one there and purchase it. You then attempt to cancel your online order - only to find out that it cannot be cancelled. Your only option then is to return the store purchased item. Making you still wait till the next day.

I guess, all depending on what time you can go to the store...maybe you should go there and see if they have any. If not, then order online.

It will not matter if you arder the phone @ 12:01 am or 4:00 pm.......it will all get shipped overnight for Friday delivery.

Not sure if this sort of thing bothers you, but doing it online and in store could result in a double inquiry on your credit report.

I stand corrected! I added a NEW line of service on my account for the X (I have a data card with them, but no phones) and there was no inquiry! He never mentioned it and i just checked on creditchecktotal and no inquiries. Looks like they only run them for new accounts! That's awesome. The lady at the first store who tried to scam me wanted to run my credit app to "hold the phone".
