Help Multiple Copies of Text Messages

I don't know what the problem is, but for some reason I've been getting like 5-10 duplicates of text messages from some people. It's usually different people at different times and it's on various carriers.

Anyone else? or no a fix?

Do you have more than one messaging app active on your phone? That's the only reason that I can think of.

Well I am running Hancent SMS. I set all the defaults to that. Is there a way to completely kill "Messaging"

I went in and turned off all of the notifications in "messaging". I'm also using handcent.

Yeah I had notifications turned off. I did notice I had auto-retrieve turned on so maybe that was the problem.

Also, when I used messaging it would show the facebook picture for my contact that I texted. I have contact photos turned on in handcent, but it just displays the blank box with question mark.

I have come across the same problem (sending multiple copies of the same text message to the intended recipient). Since I am involved in handset testing and value added services we are investigating this issue since it causes subscriber annoyance ... and we have to provide feedback
Anyway, reading the commet by GZ2525, it seems that we have to take into account the 'auto retrieve' function.
We are also thinking that the problem might be due to a low signal strength whilst the sender is sending his text message to the recipient ... however we are not 100% sure about it. We are still investigating.
What I can confirm for sure is that we have seen multiple submissions coming in to our network. These submissions, obviously are delivered to the intended recipient. We are also thinking that there might be something strange going on with the OS ... sort of sending the same message for multiple times when the signal strength is low.
One thing that I almost forgot to mention is that the sending party received a 'message sending failed' notification. The message is though still delivered multiple times to the intended recipient.
Has anyone investigated this in more detail by any chance?

Has anyone determined how to fix this for sure? I constantly get multiple texts from my wife. The only other "person" I get them from is the local alert system. I consistently receive two of the same alert texts every time, except for once recently when I got them six times. I contacted them and they see no reason on their end why I should be getting more than one.

I also use Handcent but before I made it the default I noticed the same thing happening in the native app.
