Last few days/hours with my DInc

VT!
After numerous problems with my first Dinc, they replaced it with a refurb. I immediately had some of the same and also some new problems, including badly overheating. VZW tech support had me take the phone in to verify the issues which there were able to and noted the account.

The tech I was working with just sort of dropped of the face of the earth and told me someone would get back with my last weekend (this second defective phone issues has been going on almost three weeks now with no resolution). Nothing, nothing. So I contact three people at VZW who assured me that someone would get back to me. Still nothing. Contacted yet again...promised a call last night...still nothing. So I called on a different issue entirely regarding my husband's phone upgrade and then the tech asked if she could help me with anything else. I told her I didn't know if I should go into it all over again or try to get help from the three people who were supposedly going to contact me. I explained the situation and she looked over the notes and said she couldn't figure out what the problem could be because it was such a simple situation. I told her that they had mentioned that because of the issues with two DInc's they had talked of giving me a DX instead. She said she didn't see it notated on the account but she'd run it by her manager. Soooo, she came back and it was all approved! So, depending on shipping, I'll have a DX tomorrow or Monday at the latest. This will be my last weekend with the DInc.

I would have missed the Android features but I can't say that I'll miss this particular phone. HTC's build quality has been so spotty on this phone that it's really shaken my confidence in them as a company. I know people saw the same about Moto but I had an original Moto Startac "back in the day" and never had a single problem with it and the Moto Droid was supposedly built like a tank. I'm hoping for good things with the DX and it will be nice that both my husband and I will have the same phone for troubleshooting etc. He would've gotten a DInc if I hadn't had so many problems with mine.

I'm sorry it didn't work out. I waited like crazy, crazy for this phone. I was an impatient maniac but the phones I've had haven't lived up to the hype or even the title "phone" because it's exactly that part/feature that has the most trouble.

I'll miss this forum but I'm sure I'll "see" several of you hanging out over at the DX forums. Just wanted to share my story. Anyone else have similar experiences?

How long did you have your incredible? I got my first one on launch day and have gone through 3 of them so far and my forth is coming tomorrow. With all the problems I'm having I was considering talking to them about sending me a DX but not sure if they would since Ive had it for two and a half months now.

Not sure if it's still the case, but VZW should offer you a different phone after your third replacement. That was the case with my Storm; after 3 replacement units they offered me the Tour on my fourth.

Preordered and got it the day before launch. So I'm pretty much in the first batch that got it like you. TBH, I was't just trying to get the "latest phone". I figured that I'd use my annual upgrade in another 10 months or so for that but I just simply can't deal with the calls issues and all the other crap. It's KEEPS going downhill and developing probems. Now, it won't push/sync any email, google voice, etc. It's crazy.

I expected that it would be a huge problem to get the DX instead but VZW seems to have a stronger partnership with Moto and I think they're tired of dealing with all the DInc issues. I'm hoping that the DX has the build quality of the Moro Droid which seemed to be great.

I had a droid.. build quality?
My headphone jack rarely worked..a lot of people had this issue.

The slider got looser and looser as time went by i had to put stickers on the back so the thing wouldn't slide in my pocket. Why would they not include some type of spring mechanism? its a slider phone.

The battery door never stayed on.

the "gold" camera buttons paint chipped off and became a white camera button.

The keyboard was peeling off.

The camera lens had all kinds of dust in it (I'm very ocd about my electronics)

And the phone itself was just uuugh, I was so jealous of the nexus ones form factor when it came out.

The incredible doesn't have great build quality I won't lie but I'm much happier with it than I was with that thing. dx looks like its a big improvement ,but I'm gonna skip it(or try to anyway:D) there are going to be sick phones out by the time the holidays come around.

I'm sorry to hear about your woes. I have a first generation Inc and don't have the problems that many people seem to have. I'm guessing that I should buy a lottery ticket since I have a "non-wonky" Inc that I love and cannot put down. Best of luck to you though. You're bound to get a good device sooner or later.

Just don't go iPhone 4 on us. :D

Don't worry about that! I've been avoiding Apple for years just because they are so closed in their approach to devices and software. While everyone else is sporting Ipods, I refused and went with a different brand. So no WAY would I EVER go for an iPhone :D

So far my incredible has been nothing short of insane. Just got mine on weds. though. Everything is perfect except for the pink hue when I set the brightness at minimum lvl. So sorry to hear about your troubles and see ya give up like that. =(

Well, I had a first gen as well, got it the day before launch and tried to put up with the issues as long as I could before getting a replacement. I was pretty frustrated to have a refurb after only 6 weeks of owning it. The refurb has been a similar disaster and I've been dealing with this for two and a half months. So I don't really feel like I've given up. Plus, I'm dealing with some super serious medical issues and have lost so many calls to doctors and specialists that I can't take that anymore. Also, I need to be able to get in touch with people in case of emergency, which is rather likely to happen at this time until I get the experimental surgery they're wanting me to have, or manage to grow me new body parts (which they are literally considering...I'm not kidding on that). So, I have enough on my plate right now and dealing with defective phones needs to come off of my plate and my phone needs to start being part of the solution rather than creating problems.

I wished the DInc had worked for me but it didn't and it's not my fault, it's not even VZW's, it's HTC's. Plus, I din't want to get a replacement phone later that didn't have AMOLED. Yeah, the STFT will probably be great and I know the DX has a TFT screen, but that's not what I purchased with my original DInc.

Also, the bluetooth issues have been driving me crazy and the fact that they used the 1.6 stack instead of the 2.0+ BT software is misleading to say the least.

OK, rant over. I'll definitely miss my DInc because it's had it's good moments (fewer and fewer and time has gone on...) but I'll feel better with the DX simply because VZW seems to support it better...notice the dock and promised accessories are actually available? I'm not getting one right now because I've already rigged up one from my DInc but still...they seem to back Moto phones more than HTC.

I have the Dinc on order, first smartphone. Never had or heard of HTC but verizon rep said few problems and reviews were decent. However, have had many moto's and loved them all. Just always seemed like a solid phone. Hubby has Droid and it feels like a tank so I think I would drop it more, but does seem like it could handle that.

I got my first Inc on May 11 and promptly broke the screen 4 hours later. I used it for 5 weeks while waiting for an insurance replacement and aside from the VERY cracked screen, I didn't have a single problem with the phone. I've also had no problems with the replacement, which was also brand new.

It's odd that you've gotten so many replacements with problems. Were they new units or refurbs? I've honestly always had GREAT luck with refurb products.

Most definitely refurb. But strange thing, the tech who was helping me said her supervisor was really interested in hearing about all the issues because they were trying to prevent phones that aren't up to quality from being sent out...so maybe they knew some were slipping through the cracks with the shortage??? I don't know.

But it's a moot point anyway now as I'm moving on. One REALLY happy thing is that I tried my BT keyboard with my DH's new DX and it worked immediately! I literally spent days trying to get it to work with the DInc and it wouldn't. So, at least I'll have a phone that functions how I expected the Dinc to. My DX should be here Monday.

Oh, BTW, on my old LG Voyager at my house, I'd get 4 bars (full service). On my Dinc, I get 1 bar. On my DH's DX, 4 bars...full reception. Don't understand the problem but clearly there is one. :/

To be honest, the only phone I'd consider trading my DI for is the Samsung Fascinate, and there have been no release date rumors that I could find.

I'm pissed that Verizon won't be getting more than 2 GB onboard storage and no front facing camera. I can only guess that the exclusion of a FFC means Verizon wants to make their corral more attractive to Apple for a CDMA iPhone 4. Since a FFC is one of the iPhone 4's flagship features, having no Android phone with a FFC means one major advantage of the iPhone over any Android phone on Verizon.

That's my guess but it still pisses me off that the storage was cut from 16 GB (I think that's TMo's or Sprint's version) to 2 GB. Really shitty.

I hate American Telecom politics.

Your story is my story almost exactly.

I had my Inc for 2 weeks before I noticed it was slowly dying on me. Finally called Verizon. First rep: I can do nothing. Second rep: I can do nothing. (In my 30 days). Third rep: Ill send you to tech. Tech: All Incredibles have 60 day WFG, we can send you new one in a month and a half.

Me: You're e'fin crazy I'm not waiting a month and a half for a phone.

So, they gave me an X instead. After a TON of problems with that as well.

Rep was supposed to call me to order it. Never did. Rep called Verizon store so I could pick a phone up. Sold it from under me.

Ya... I almost left Verizon that day. But now I'm very happy with my X. :D

Yep me too... I would get 1 bar or no service at all with the DINC, on every other phone full service.

Not to try to get you guys to keep the Inc. or anything, but as far as the bars go there is a software bug and that's supposed to be addressed with the upcoming OTA update.

The only way to truly see what your signal strenght is is to press menu (from the home screen), then settings, then scroll down to and press about phone (at the bottom), then press network and it will show the signal strength in dbm. It will be a negative number ranging from -50 (best) to -125 (no service).

Before you get rid of your Incredible, try doing that with both the Incredible and the DX in the same area. I am curious to see if the problem is the signal bar software bug or if the DX is actually has better signal.

How did you get them to replace it, I have had issues with mine since I got it say 1 in april, the screen will not go to landscape on its own easily. They said they are getting me another one but it hasn't come and its july now.

Gotta call back and MUST TALK TO TECH SUPPORT! Be nice, let them know of your frustration, that you've had problems for months but that you understand that it isn't their fault personally. :) Just keep at it (AND being nice) and tell them that you need a working phone. CS couldn't do anything...told me it would be over 6 weeks before they could get me a replacement, tech support had me a refurb DInc in 2 days - same phone call, same day. Go figure. Be persistent, though. You've signed a 2 year contract...at least for the 1st year, it's their responsibility to provide you with a working device. Good luck!
