Help Opera Mini 5.1 for Android

Today I downloaded the new Opera Mini 5.1 and is very nice. My problem is that I would like to delete some of the bookmarks in the Start Page and can't. When you hold down the bookmark it appears a pop screen with the choices to delete or edit, but you can't really press it. Anyone tried to delete a bookmark?

I deleted Opera mini after I installed Dolphin HD. It's the better browser by a mile.

I used Opera mini for years, since the Treo days and right up until the Touch pro 2. I downloaded it for the Evo out of habit, but once I tried Dolphin HD, it was all over for Mini.

Would y'all mind posting a few of the advantages of Dolphin HD over the stock android browser? Also, how is it better than Opera Mini 5.1?

There are so many, many advantages.

Dolphin is about as fast as Mini and faster than stock, but you can load the full featured pages for sites that redirect you to mobile pages (that totally suck and lack content). Even the stock browser set up as Desktop still doesn't load, say, cracked.com, only m.cracked.com.

Unlike Mini, Dolphin supports multi-touch. Like Mini, it reformats text into columns for easier reading. Unlike Mini, it remaps the volume rockers into pg up pg dn keys so you can scroll through the pages.

Dolphin has gesture controls that are shortcuts for commands or webpages. This feature is functional and clever by a half.

Mini has this bad habit of reloading the page instead of loading the linked page.

Dolphin will display placeholders for flash content and depending on the site,will send the URL for the video to either HTC flash player or the YouTube app if you click on it (your choice). So it doesn't support flash natively, but then again, you don't take the hit when you go to a site with lots of flash (the stock browser with flash enabled slows to a crawl when that happens). In Mini, there's just blank space.

Basically, it's the best mobile browser on the planet. Nothing even comes close. The only complaint I have is the chunky and barebones bookmarking system. But I can map a lot of my frequently visited pages to gestures.

Oh, and it can take over as the default browser for the system. I'm not sure if Mini can do that in Android -- it could not in WinMo without hacking the registry (and even that didn't really work).

Like I said, I've used Opera Mini for years, but those were on platforms where the stock browser was so bad or so slow that I put up with Mini's inconveniences. But on Android and specifically Evo, I could not recommend Dolphin more.

I reinstalled mini just for you. If I hold down the square, a dialog box pops up and you choose clear.

If that doesn't work for you, uninstall it and reinstall the program.

Go into the internet, press the menu button and select bookmarks. You will go to a screen with all of your bookmarks. Longpress the ones you want to delete from here, and select delete. I was getting frustrated too about trying to delete them from the widget. Found out on accident about deleting them from the internet browser.

well, I have used opera since it was opera mini 2 or something. It has made it's way to opera 10 beta 10.1 10.2 10.3 and 10 final. Making the switch from wm that had opera mini and opera 10 final, i can say that i wish opera 10 was avail for android. The mini was ok when I was using a java device aka standard flip phone or symbian s40 but as a smartphone only full opera rocks. I tried dolphin, and even dHD and I stick with default browser since no opera 10. Opera user for about 5 years now. not even skyfire appeals to me. Stock works, flash works, and any vid I select plays.

Say what??? On my Evo in this particular spot that I'm sitting, Phandroid.com takes 25 seconds to completely load with Dolphin and 5 seconds to load with Opera Mini. Please try this test and report your findings.

For 95% of my web browsing, OM rules. For sites that need flash lite I'll pull up Dolphin.

Opera mini was the must have browser on WM. On Android though I don't see any need for it. It is a pretty irrelevant browser on the EVO if you ask me.

I like Opera's layout much more then Dolphin, but some pages dont load correctly in opera.
Dolphin has cool features, but having to swipe left, then drag the tab down to see all my windows is kind of annoying.
Opera is my first choice just because its layout and it does feel slightly faster.

A lot of problems you stated were problems with the beta that were corrected in the 5.1 release.

I had been using 5.1 on WinMo since it was released.

Which problems are you referring to? I only mentioned the reloading issue (which forced me to restart 5.1 at times) and default browser issue which could not be resolved in WinMo because Mini ran under Java and was not it's own program.

I don't what some of you are sipping, but Opera Mini is considerably faster than Dolphin HD. Xscope would be a better comparison. I don't even think it's close. Opera Mini also has the most polished and fluid interface. Transitions and swypes are very smooth. It makes me wonder how they did it on Android and why Google and HTC can't follow suit. That being said it does have many shortcomings. No multi-touch, no flash. With a few improvements, it could be great. Until then I will use XScope, and the rest. Dolphin is at times very clunky for me to use. I am not sure about Skyfire and Firefox is around the corner.

Which INTERNET? The stock android INTERNET? It doesn't contain the Opera Mini bookmarks. If I go to any site with Opera Mini and I press menu nothing happens. Nobody else has this problem?

Let me clarify: I loaded Phandroid.com, in full, in 5-6 secs over 3G on Dolphin.

I will say that when your connection gets really slow (say, in the bowels of Penn station waiting for a train), Mini performs better than Dolphin. But it's slow either way, which is why I watch videos now.

If you set up Dolphin fonts to Huge, you can load the page and read without having to zoom in or anything. But if you do zoom in, those fonts? They're HUGE.

Just retested phandroid.com from my office in NJ (the previous test was done waiting for the train):

Dolphin 15 sec
Mini 14 sec
Stock 29 sec

Is Mini faster? A little.
