Help Insanely slow wifi tethering speeds...

So I just rooted my phone yesterday with the new unrevoked 3, and mainly for the purpose of getting the wifi tethering app back. Yes, it worked, but man has it been a sad day.

I've been reading posts of people having GREAT speeds and here I am, trying to enjoy my 0.4 kbps down and 0.3 kbps up speeds, but it sure is hard when other devices can't even use the connection because it's so insanely low. I'm just wondering if anyone else is having this problem? Is it because of the new root? Is it because of my phone? I used to have okay speeds before with just having a rooted phone via unrevoked 1.

I don't know if it's my data network either because it still loads sites pretty well and downloads just fine. It's just the wifi tethering that is horrible. I tried playing around with the settings (LAN, channels, etc.,) and to no avail, as well as moving around the house, so now I'm stumped.

Help?

Mine is evo unrooted. I recently activated wifi hotspot from sprint. I get insanely slow 4g tethering. I am in KC area and we have 4g here. When I measured speed from speedest.net app on my evo with 4g on, I get between 2-3 mbps download speed. But when I tether my evo with 4g on and measure the speed on my iPad, I get barely 0.2-0.3 mbps download.

Please advise as what's missing in my tethering?

Well, like I said, it used to tether just fine a few weeks ago with the first unrevoked. I could actually tether it with my iPod touch and would surf okay, but now, notta. It won't budge at all. It's stuck at 0.4 kbps and regardless of where I go, it stays the same. I just hope the new root isn't the cause of it. T'was a pain rooting it again just for the sole purpose of tethering and it being unuseable is incredibly disappointing.

A hard reset could work, but that's just a maybe.

Yep I tested it today in both 3G and 4G. I get .4 down and .1 up no matter where I am or what I do. This is bad.

I get an average of 800 down and 900 up in my area on 3g. When using my Sprint Hotspot (unrooted and my business pays for it) I actually see some increase in that depending on where I am. Usually around 1200 up and 900 down. Aslso about the same with usb tethering. Using PDAnet to test I get around 500 down and 400 up on average. I am using the Sprint Hotspot with WPA2 (AES) security.

Forget the speed test is the device running slow?

I keep seeing people post about speeds.

Speed test are flawed, they will rarely be accurate on wireless networks..

Why won't they be accurate? Most speed tests just downloads a 5-10 meg file and then just divides it by the time it took to download. I find it to be pretty accurate whether on my old iPhone or my Evo. I say accurate because my torrents (known file size) downloads in about the time I expect for a 1mbps connection, which is what I have now.

Because most speed test take your location into play when choosing the server they request/suggest for the download..

For wireless networks this will result in the wrong server being recommended and increase in ping times /latency.

Where it thinks I am

Where I actually am
