Charging light!?

There is a small light on the side of the phone by the Micro USB jack that stays lit while the device is charging. Does anyone know if there is any way to turn that thing off. I charge my Droid on my night stand by my bed while I'm sleeping and I find the light to be annoying when I'm trying to sleep. I have been putting it in the drawer but have forgotten it twice because it was out of sight. I have been through all the menu options and looked at the online guide from Motorola and I haven't been able to find anything about it. Any help appreciated.

I know it's not alot of light but I like a very dark room to sleep in. And that little sucker is pretty bright in an otherwise pitch black dark room. I was just hoping to find an easy way to shut it off. It's certainly no deal breaker, I love this device. Best phone ever!!! Thanks guys.

Quit ur complaining I'm glad they did that u obliviously never had a g1 when that phone was charging the led light was bigger bright orange and was the same as the nofitication light to so wen it was charging u wouldn't kno if u got a txt missed call or email cuz it would b orange. Motorola did a great droid on the design for the leds not small but bright enough so it would stand out and able to endure @ night. And u hav a dock that is bright than that smal white led on while its charging

I also like to sleep in the 'cave'. I've gone as far as putting black electrical tape over most of the LEDs in my room. I'm not willing to do that with the droid. I've found the easiest and simplest solution is just covering the device with something that doesn't allow light through.

A t shirt will work, and so will a cardboard box. Whatever you have around that's handy.

Just put it under your pillow - that way you muffle the light and it's still close to you where it can send subliminal messages while you sleep...

i'm going to jump in and agree with you here, i sleep in a very dark room, and even turned away from me it projects a good amount of light both into the room and onto the wall that my dresser is near.

i won't cover it with a shirt, this thing gets warm enough, and i don't want to overheat it. short of electrical tape, i'm also not sure what exactly to do about this.

but, i wanted to chime in and say you're not crazy and these people that are coming at you the way they are are pretty inconsiderate.

"quit ur complaining"? really? it was a simple question. and what exactly is the droid trying to "endure" at night? there should be an option to turn this light off, plain and simple. either way it was a valid question, so chill out.

When its done charging, the light goes out. Wont ruin your whole night of sleep since it charges so quickly.

Why not just put something like a paper cup on the phone? That's enough to cover the light emission and at the same time, not cause any heat issues.

Here's a couple of ideas. Don't know what you do for a living, but what about charging it while at your desk if you have a desk job, and just shutting the phone off at night while you sleep? If that's not a viable option (if you're like me, and want the phone on at all times) why not charge the phone in another room. Leave it in the kitchen to charge next to your house keys this way it's not bothering you, and you are sure not to forget it.

programmer; already do the first part. however, i also use it all night at home, at least now while it's still a new toy. so, it's at 50% when i go to bed. i use the phone as my alarm clock, so it has to be next to the bed. also have some sick older relatives so need to be contactable all hours.

but...some of us don't. so they should make it an option with a software toggle. not force either way on people.

covering it with a paper cup is as ghetto a solution as i can imagine (and you should see the paper clip holster i made for it for my desk, so don't think i'm saying that as a negative), but then again so is the electrical tape, so it might be what i have to go with if i can find a cup properly sized etc etc.

believe me, that's the first thing i did on the first night when i noticed it. but when you sleep in a pitch black room, any light is more light than you want. even turned around it's pretty bright, especially since my nightstand is next to a white wall - so i'm just reflecting the LED off the wall if it's facing away from my bed.

anyway, not necessarily complaining about the light, just agreeing with the original poster that it's annoying that it can't be toggled off. all power should be in the hands of the people, not the developer who decided "oh, they'll like this". it's not like it's hard to write a software switch to control an LED. just sayin. and for what it's worth i'm a huge droid fanboy, and everyone at work wishes i would shut up about it already, so don't think i'm bitchin about the phone just my observation/experience.

of course, first i have to port doodlejump over to android so the iphone people at work stop holding that over my head

in all seriousness though, it's not that important to me, like i was saying - minor annoyance, and if that's my worst complaint, then this must be as great a phone as i thought. i just jumped in the thread to defend the OP because someone jumped in with a real harsh "get over it" reply that was completely unwarranted.

Heh...I did get a pretty good laugh out of that I was actually talking about havi, the rest of the replies were pretty straightforward and/or funny

What's funny is, the reason I need total darkness is that I get migraines seasonally - and I do actually wear a sleep mask, though it's an aromatherapy mask, not a princess mask. Though...if they had princess masks that smelled like this one I already have... [grin]
