Installed Task Killer, doubled battery life

If you set up Advanced Task Killer right, it doubles the battery life of your Evo. That's what I have figured out this week. My phone wouldn't make it past 9pm and now it regularly goes all day and all night with no problem.

I set it to ignore important things like the clock or Smart Keyboard, and my phone literally doubled in battery life.

I have it set to do a 'kill' once an hour. Seems to do the trick.

I think the reason for this working is all the shit Sprint puts on the phone to begin with. I constantly see Amazon MP3, Sprint Navigation and NASCAR running in the background: 3 apps I wish I didn't have.

Why make such a killer phone who's obvious Achilles heel is battery life, when it could be so much better and give Android a good name when it comes to battery life.

To be honest same here. At least doubled my battery life.

But you are going to get it. That sound you hear is the mob against task killers.

They believe a lot of stuff. Some of it right, some of it wrong.

But I will give you a hint, atk is hated most by developers, which people listen to. Why may you ask, because it kills their programs. Which means that a complete noob will blame their program for not working when it is really they are killing it with task killer.

Just understand that, when they attack. Also understand you have to do what you have to do when it comes to battery life. If ATK works for you good, it works for me.

Just understand it is hated by developers and the mindless sheep that follow what they say.

All I am saying is this.

Enjoy your great battery life when ATK makes your phone near unusable.

I've got a degree in programming, so I know what to look for. I have it set to the lowest level of killing, and absolutely nothing has gone wrong in a week.

I know Android is supposed to do this for me, but with background data-hog apps running from Sprint, I had no choice. I liked my phone before, and absolutely love it now.

BTW, I'm not a newbie. I'll root this baby and but Froyo on it as soon as it's available, just like I rooted my Hero.

That's another program that requires root, I believe. I have ATK set to the safest possible settings, and have several things such as Clock set to the ignore list. It ignores the system processes by default at these settings.

App Killer is what you're thinking of. How I love that program, and always set it to Aggressive.

Must be my "magic phone" again, but Navigation and Nascar aren't running on my phone at all according to System Monitor. Amazon MP3 is in the idled tasks, and as such isn't doing anything nor has.

I have yet to see any conclusive proof a task killer helps.

I just went 28 hours on 1 charge, so if ATK could double that I'd be getting 56 hours? dang. Even my curve couldn't do that... I'm holding off for just now w ATK until I learn more about everythings since I'm a new android user. So far no concerns w battery though.

Is system monitor an app or something that is native in the phone? I have not seen it.

Search the app store.

As for battery life good for you. If I do not use task killer my phone will start to bog down. When I let my phone run task it, works perfectly.

Of course I hammer my phone, lucky to get 8-15 hours of battery life with task killer, will not last 4 hours with out.

Of course the time I spend using the phone is like 6-9 hours straight.

To be honest, I understand why people do not like the program, there are a lot of myths and rumors, mostly from the developers that hate to see there programs get killed by it. Makes headaches for them.

As for the reasons not to use it, if you do not understand basic computer operations, or you do not full investigate how to use it properly, it will cause problems. So will a good antivirus on a pc. If you tell it to do a full scan every hour and cut off all pc connections, your pc will become useless.

I uninstalled ATK and tripled my battery life. what say you?
Good for you. Glad it worked.

There are also people out there that have uninstalled an anti virus on their pcs to increase performance, and have not gotten a virus.

But to triple your battery life, you would either have really miss used the program, or your usage habits have really changed.

i had a battery life problem. i got task killer, i chased and chased all the ghost apps, battery didn't improve. phone performed sluggish, so after research, i removed it.

i read about charging it, and used that, battery improved. still fluctuates now, but it's good enough for me, and the phone flys!

i can get 24 hours easy if i let the phone just sit there, but that's not why i bought it :D so, i just take the charger with me to work, and remove it as soon after it reaches 100% as i possibly can.

i also monitor performance after installing apps, and especially widgets now, as i've found them to be my biggest weights on resource. i love pure messenger, and pure calender, but they occupy more of my resources than anything else according to the sdk, so i'm considering replacements...

Tasks in the background in Android more or less do nothing but take up ram, ram that is going to use the same amount of power if its empty or not. Unless the app is a backgrounding app like Pandora then you're really not doing anything. NASCAR and Amazon MP3 aren't "background data hogs." They're just sitting there doing nothing.

ATK is just like 99% of the tips in this forum: confirmation bias. Its just like "hey hold the phone this way" or "reformat your sd card." The only reason I can think of to use it is to kill a specific app that has known issues, but what you should be doing in that scenario is not using it.

The only battery like "hack" in these forums worth doing is dimming the screen and shutting off 4G when you're not using it.

I got 28 hours and the phone did "just not sit there" at all... check my detailed report...
