So way back, when the first leak was released for the eris, I jumped the gun, and installed... only to hear that a s-off rom was leaked wat a week later? so i kept installing the leaks, all the way to v3, but never did the RUU update or anything. Went into verizon for a crack underneath my screen. They said there would be a new phone at my house about 3 days later. It showed up. It has an hboot of 1.49.0000 and comes in a box stating it is a certified like-new phone. yea, fancy way of saying, piece of crap refurb that we couldn't even downgrade. So i decided to finally try and root my phone with the new package that has been released for us leakers. I'm on a mac, i ran the first package option of sh runinlinuxadb.sh & it worked! I was in shock! started flashing new roms, deleting apk's that i didn't want. the whole 9 yards. but then, i was reading that i should really switch it over to the regular root file, because it's more stable and such, so i did so, and then i new, from that, people had been unrooting, and returning to stock hboot 1.47.0000... and ya kno what!? my once leaked phone, that was then rooted, which was then bricked at 1 point (oops) and then re-rooted, was back to it's good-ole stock self... and i thought to myself. i'm 16 years old. i've never even worked with adb b4 but hell why not give it a shot. and i managed to do all of this. yet the refurb sent to my house today, has and hboot of 1.49.000... i'm sending it back anyway because i don't want a refurb, but i'm debating about downgrading the hboot and attaching a little note when i send it back that says, your welcome :)

Well thank you, it really was quite a challenge at times. And now i've rooted again, and i just can't find a rom that wants to play nice with my phone :/ have tried like 8 and debating about just unrooting completely... also don't wana push it too far and brick the phone again...

Do you kno if it's possible to flash the hboot like so:
fastboot flash hboot hboot.nb0
otehr than when doing it as the last step in a downgrade? would this also work if i have just rooted the phone with PB00IMG.zip like everyone that was orig on 1.5 did, because it updated the hboot to yes, s-off, but also 1.49.2000, it's no big deal, just curious

I was upgraded the the Inc, tried rooting the Eris I had all day literally tried 6 hours straight, So I figured OK lets sell this thing then since the Inc is coming this week. Find out the inc isn't coming due to back orders, and Verizon sent me another Eris refurb to use until the inc comes, BUT after IO specifically asked if it would come with a battery and a back door and told YES - it came without them, so just looking at the Eris until the battery comes from Verizon Monday.
Long story short, if I had just waited an extra day to sell my Eris, I'd be more than happy keeping it as a back up for the inc since it's rooted. patience is a virtue. I don't have any.

Haha i lack pertinence as well, hense wat started this whole mess of mine with the leaks. but i actually prefer to root from leak v3 because i type one shell command and it's done! and it doesn't wipe out any settings i have or anything! And I was debating about switching to the Inc. but i'm not really sure it's worth it... and esp with my phone now rooted :D

haha how do i get em to do that 1 for me!? i don't even necessarily want the Inc. i'll take any other droid they wana give me... no offense to the eris, but it was a poorly designed phone, that nobody seems to have really cared about it... and it's already EOL... they need to like replace everybody's with an Inc. or something...

haha, i don't really know how it all came about for me, I had called to complain about being on my third Eris which I had for only one day no apps installed and got he silent call bug. They credited me $199 for me eris which I got to keep and sell, and cancled my old contract opened a new two year contract giving me the inc at the online price which the credit covered. so i basically made out on $150 for selling the Eris and a free inc. you just need the right CSR rep. It may help that were on a family plan of 5 lines and have been since 2001, and i threw that at her saying take a look at what we pay a month, and your gunna lose that over a crappy phone that you won't replace.
I was offered to get the Droid X to come by Monday 7/19 instead of waiting for the Inc, and thank God I said no, because I like the Sense UI better anyway, but I also like to be able to root if I want, and not have to worry about bricking my phone if I mess with the boot loader like with the X. I call that sabotage, and not cool.

Wow, lucky man. I went in to vzw because i have a like spider crack under neith the screen, just showed up 1 day and keeps getting bigger, they said great, we'll send you a new phone. i immediately was like, now, will it rele be new, or a refurb... & they were like, o n, it'll b new. we promise... and i'm like yea, that's bs. The tech guy couldn't even explain y they didn't have any on display and kept telling us that it should be new because it's a relatively new phone... i wanted to tell him it was EOL and to shove it up his @$$... lol, and my mom is the account holder and she has been w/ verizon since atleast 2001 or before, has all 5 phones on her family plan, has our home phone through verizon (or fairpoint actually) and then has a verizon mifi and everything with them, so they usually do w/e she wants :D

I was just gonna ask a similar question about this. I am on my #2 Eris (a referb). I've had it less than a month. I have had nothing but issues with my Eris since we got it in march & especially since the OTAU. The first & now this one. I go to dial a # & it doesn't dial or it lags so bad it takes over a minute before the call actually goes through. Sometimes it randomly dials numbers on its own. It switches through screens on its own. I have reset it countless times and everytime I lose #'s that it says are google linked. Well the one morning a crack showed up out of no where, straight a crossed the screen. I know I didn't drop it or anything (as I'm so super careful with it because my husband would flip if I broke it). I was going to call that morning to ask them about getting another referb or new or anything that might work but now I feel I'm stuck cause it is broken & I am afraid I will have to pay the $90 because it has a issue that they will claim is "my fault" even though the phone has software issues & I know I didn't do that crack.

I did the same thing. the lady handed me a pamplet for the warranty info & said it would be $90 & also tried to tell me it was some sort of "pressure crack" but I know that's BS. I said I'd think about it & walked out w/o giving her any info about my account. Should I just call customer service or go to a different store?
