**** rooting, I've spent the day in front of my computer and tried simple root and unrevoked3 --it's all bullshit.. "idiot proof" explanations are for shit. I'm discouraged and pissed. I've read, read and re-read at xda. I guess I'll wait for decembers 2.2 ota release from sprint

Mod Edit : Watch your language please...

All you do is put the thing in the thingy and cross the thingy to the other thingy and your good to go how hard is that:D

After you get the new OTA it does becoming harder for Novice users to root But Pre 1.47 everything was a simple as a click with UNrevoked....

OAN and for full root and NAND unlocking takes even more thingies:eek:

exactly, why did I update all those times...ignorance and the desire to have my phone work "better"... shame on me...rooting should not be such a ball-busting experience, and dammit, the guides should be better and make more sense. How often do you see some guy post "well during step 36 it said debug invalid" and the answer is uninstall the usb driver and then reinstall...wtf

fw 2.1 update 1
sw 1.17.651.1
baseband 1.36.00.04.02

to all you "idiots" out ther like me--hang in there, SOMEONE will come up with a logical, well-written guide eventually and we'll ger 'er done (btw, if you find the aforementioned--please post it here) mega thanks

If 1.17.651.1 is not a typo it looks to me like you have successfully done the simpleroot. Now what you need to do is follow this process.

How to start over: Fully rooted stock 1.47.651.1 in one shot (no adb!) - xda-developers

This will get you to the current software build with full root. Then when cyanogen is released you will just go into recovery and load the new rom from sd.

I just rooted my OTA'd evo with the simpleroot method then i followed the steps in the post that i linked to. This was my first time rooting so I am by no means experienced in this.

Hold the volume down and power button to boot into hboot. What version does it say you have? If it is 76.200 you are good to go. That is the engineering hboot and you can load anything you want. If it is 79.0000 then you are not ready to install roms yet.

I thought with unrevoked3 you could flash custom roms with it. After reading what to look for. If you are capable of that your hboot will read 76.200. In hboot I still show 79.0000. I looked into simple root. I can extract it on the computer but never can see the different steps (Like step 1-3 Or 4 in the app window on your computer. I am looking for this screen: [Program] SimpleRoot OTA 1.47.651.1 Edition - xda-developers

Just a guess but I would have to say that you do not have .net 4.0 installed. Download it directly from microsoft.

lol :D

I think I may be rooted, am I ???
firmware 2.1.update 1
baseband 1.36.00.04.02
kernel2.6.29-ac94cf60
build 1.17651.1
software 1.17.651.1
browser webkit 3.1
pri 1.34_003
prl 60662

You very well could be. Turn your phone off and boot it into hboot by holding the volume down rocker while pushing the power button. What version of hboot does it say? 76.200? or 79.000? If it is 76.200 follow the steps in the link that i posted in my original post.
