Hey guys. I'm an Incredible user, but my girlfriend has an Eris. I'm tired of hearing her bitch about the speed of the phone, and how it occasionally locks up on her, so (now that the easy root method for leakers is out) I'm about to root her phone and install a custom ROM.

Now, I have a few questions for you folks since I'm not familiar with the Eris community at all (and I have some time constraints since she needs her phone back).

1. I'm looking for a ROM recommendation. What I'm looking for is something extremely stable and fast. I don't need any bells/whistles. She doesn't use tethering, at all but it must have GPS/Camera/Bluetooth/MMS working. Don't really care if it has Sense, but if there is something fast/stable WITH sense, that would not be a bad thing. Most important things are speed and bug-free (or damn close). Froyo would be nice (obviously).

2. I am unfamilar with overclocking. I come from a phone where you overclock by installing a hydra kernel, so I don't know how this works on the Eris. It sounds like I will have to manually set up overclocking in SetCPU, and I'm not familiar with the application. If anyone can give me some tips on how to do this, or recommended settings that would be AWESOME. One thing to keep in mind is that this is not my phone, so I won't have time to tinker with trial and error (in other words I won't be able to start testing at 850mhz and work my way down until it's stable).

I know this is a lot to ask, but I'm hoping some of you guys will be able to help me out given the circumstances. Thanks in advance.

i'll reply anyways...

[ROM 7/15/2010] xtrSENSE3.0.3 [apps2sd,jit,oc]-high performance HTC Sense - xda-developers

xtr is a good ROM i haven't tried this one with Sense but im using the non-sense one and it is fast and has been stable.

i believe most people have their eris clocked anywhere between 710 and 768 and then you can set up profiles to lower the clock for when the phone is low on battery or when it gets to hot or when the screen is off

probably a better place to look for ROMs would be XDA forums...

First time posting here. I've been reading for about one month now. Really like the forum.

I just rooted (like a lot of people) and I tried a bunch of ROMs. Evil Eris, Lightning Bolt, Aloiysus (sp?), Sense-able 3.1, and Ivan's Official 1.0.

Out of all of them, I like Sense-able 3.1 the best. However, it has force closed Sense on me a few times. Has this happened to anyone else?

An Eris running vanilla Android is almost a blessing. The Eris doesn't balk as much, and there are no dialer issues, and I personally like the aesthetics of the white notification bar. :D

Its probably what HTC should have put on it in the first place due to it being far more responsive overall.

I want to try a Vanilla based ROM, could you point me in the right direction as to which ones fall in that category?

Thanks, I appreciate it.

Well the thing is that I have been re-flashing KaosFroyov23 ROM for days now because I cannot get it to run stable. I've tried EvilEris3.0, WW4.4, and was about to try Suave Smushv2. I'll give LightingBolt a shot. I'm looking for pure speed. I kind of want to stick with an alternate launcher tho. Im tired of Sense or a sense look-a-like.

Lightning Bolt is one of many with those attributes.

I like the ability to run my Eris fast and without the Sense launcher, too.

Right now I'm sticking with Aloysius Snow with all free apps from Market (donate, not pay to download, which I like better because it can be tested without first paying as the refund feature does not always work).

Flashing ELB now. Thanks Frisco
