Picked up my Captivate from Best Buy today, but boy what an ordeal it was. Long story short, they have the price jacked up (both contract price and non-contract price). You can pick one up in an AT&T store for $199.99 with a 2 year contract or $499.00 with no contract. Best Buy has them listed as $229.99 contract, $549.99 no contract. I had them refund me the 30 bucks by bringing in my friends receipt who picked one up at AT&T.

I hate to rain further on your parade but corp AT&T stores were selling the non contract price set at $349. This happened as early as the 17th; mostly in Texas. Go to Faceboor AT&T facebook page and search for this price. Might be able to get a better deal yet.

Believe me, I visited not only Best Buy, but an AT&T store or two last night... No dice here in NY. Also, as far as I've seen they have updated the price everywhere to $499.

Just picked up one at my local BestBuy (Huntsville, AL). I printed the page at Wirefly for $149 and my BestBuy matched the price! Corp AT&T store wouldn't.

Thank you so much. I picked mine up when my local best buy opened but didn't realize the price difference on Wirefly till 4 hours later. Luckily I saw your post and got around $80 back. Proof that forums do help people save money.

Sounds like some people were more lucky than I was. I had decided I was getting this phone at Best Buy, because I had $40 worth of Reward Zone certs to use, so I figured I would save a little money. I had seen on here that some people were quoted $229.99 as the price, and when I checked in the morning and they finally had the phone listed on their website, sure enough it was listed as that price.

I decided to come prepared, I printed out the sheet from AT&T's website showing the $199.99 price, figuring they would price match that, especially if I threatened to leave and buy it at AT&T. When I got there, things didn't go so hot. When I asked about the phone, the girl I asked gave me this dumbfounded look and then walked over to the little cage thingy, unlocked it and got out a Captivate. I then overheard her saying to one of the other employees something about I was wanting to buy that phone, but she didn't think it was supposed to be out yet.

After scanning it into the computer, she found out it was for sale, so she was ready to sell it to me. I asked what the upgrade price was, but she was having trouble getting it to come up for some reason, she had to ask my phone number like 5 times. When she finally got it up, sure enough the price was $229.99. I said most everywhere else was selling it for $199 or less, and I even had the printout from AT&T to prove it. They said for some reason they couldn't match AT&T (which seemed strange) and so they wouldn't do it. I didn't feel like messing with it, so I left, drove across town to the AT&T store, and bought it.

Technically with my $40 in Reward Zone certs, it would have come out to be a little less than what I paid at AT&T, but I didn't feel like wasting $40 worth of certs just to pay a little less than what I would have at AT&T. I find myself wishing I would have come armed with more printouts, because every website I looked at had the $199 price for upgrade, or less.

After three trips to that Best Buy in the last few days in regards to the Captivate, I came away less than impressed with their service. In general, that Best Buy has always had great customer service for me, but it seems like they have idiots who know little more than what their training told them working in the mobile department.

Yeah the worst part is that the extra $29.99 is for "smartphone email setup". I didn't realize it until later when I looked at the receipt. I really feel like it was just another Best Buy scam to make a little extra cash.

Nope, thats a separate charge. I saw that pop up on the computer while she was billing out and I pointed it out and she took it off without hesitation. Also, to the guy who got the $149 internet price, you are lucky the person you helped you was apparently misinformed. I've been shopping at Best Buy a long time and know for a fact they are not suppose to match internet prices.

Hrmph. Guess I'm out $30, cuz I think that's what I paid. Wasn't even rly paying attention, b/c I was so nervous that I wouldn't get one that I didn't care what it cost once they said they had one & started ringing me up. Heh. Turns out I got one of the 5 total that they had for launch day. Owellz.

Glad you were finally able to get one t-readyroc! You all rooted and sideload-enabled already?

I was at best buy when they opened and they told me that they were selling them for $199. I showed them the letstalk webpage and he said that there was no way they could do that. All went well accept for keeping my unlimited data plan from my iphone. The girl wrote on the ****ract keeping unlimited data. When I got in the car I had no data connection on my phone. Went to lunch and then to ATT. They looked it up and realized she had deleted my data plan. Took the rep 45 minutes on the phone with customer service to figure it out, but i have my unlimted data and I am happy!
