My EVO has about 100 contacts and my Gmail account has 30. What is the best way to get my EVO contacts into my Gmail account and have them stay sync'd?

The Sprint store told me it would happen automatically, but it did not. All the sync's are on in the phone settings, but still no luck.

Thanks!

Once you tell a contact to be saved as a phone contact the only way i have found to switch them is to email them to my gmail and save them on there via desktop, pain in the *ss but seems to be only way, that i know of anyway. How did you originally get contacts on to evo in the first place, if they were previously synced to gmail you shouldn't have this problem. Not sure if this answered your question but hope it helps.

I, too, want to 'sync' my Gmail with my contacts. What i've discovered is it only syncs the ones in your phone that are marked 'Gmail'. There's 3 modes of contacts, apparently.

1) blank - nothing designated
2) Gmail
3) Phone

When i've entered new contacts i've chosen 'Phone' as the designation not knowing then that those contacts would not sync with Gmail. If I would have said Gmail instead then they'd sync with it automatically.

The 'blank' ones (no designation) were that way because when I had my contact list transferred from my old phone to the EVO it didn't have that field in the transfer. Therefore, those just came in as 'generic'.

What I would need to do is modify each contact to switch them to Gmail then all would convert/sync over to the online Gmail account.

The Sprint store transferred my phone contacts from my previous phone to my EVO. They said my Gmail automatically sync and would grab the contacts and update Gmail. Of course, the sync did not happen.

From what i can tell there is no easy way to do this, I can't find a way to switch this in my phone. Had to email contact to gmail then save them on computer

Seems best way is to already have synced to gmail from old phone, Would LOVE to find out if anyone knows a way to switch them after the fact, i fear it isn't possible though

Here is what I ended up doing to resolve the issue:
1. Went to my phone contacts on EVO and exported contacts to a .vcf file to my SD card
2. Emailed the .vcf file to my PC and imported into Gmail, under contacts/import
3. Once the contacts got in the Gmail account, they sync'd to my phone

Wasn't hard to do, but it was a manual process.
