Help hero vs moment statistics

Didnt I read in the Hero section that you flipped back to the Hero?

So you went Hero > Moment > Hero, correct? Im assuming you did this because of the AGPS issue? Thats the only real complaint I have with the phone. Pandoras another issue, but I can get buy without it.

So to answer your question. I swapped from Hero > Moment. Still very much happy with it. It doesnt annoy me nearly as much as the Hero used to, and I think it looks better.

Agps and data issues. it just seemed to be less reliable IMHO. i miss aspects of the moment largely the OLED and qwerty. the qwerty seemed I tiche more laggy than i was willing to tolerate. although the cpu made the apps management screen scream.

I won't say that both phones aren't without their merits. however the moments flaws outweighed the hero's. and the hero is rooted and will be getting official 2.0 soon which will Put the rom's in the sweet spot :p

The qwerty does lag a bit, but in reality it has virtually no effect.
I type my words and by the time I finish and am ready to review my results, the lag is gone. A very very minor annoyance that hopefully will be improved in future software updates.

Since the poll is in the Hero forum, the results will be skewed towards the Hero unless people here in the Moment forum take the time to click and vote. I stopped reading the Hero forum after I swapped for the Moment. Although I thought the Hero was much sexier, the virtual keyboard reduced productivity since it was so difficult to type accurately.

I swapped my Hero for a Moment. Main reason was the keyboard. I had all kinds of trouble typing on the Hero. Everything got misspelled, it kept auto-suggesting words that I diddnt type. I had an instinct before, and didn't have nearly the amount of trouble as I did with the Hero. With the Moment's keyboard, I now have ZERO trouble typing. My only real complaints with the moment is the lack of a compass, and the lack of the option to set your MMS size to 1mb. Other than that, its great. I love the faster processor. The camera works better, less lag from when you push the button and the actual picture takes. And the hardware camera button is GREAT. More like a real camera where you push it in halfway, it focuses, and then you fully depress it and it takes the pic. I like the gallery app on the moment much better than the Hero.

I dont like the micro USB connector though. It was nice to have the mini on the Hero, as I have a ton of USB cables laying around to use as chargers at home, work, and in the car.

Almost forgot. The actual PHONE on the Hero was terrible. The earpiece had a really small sweet spot, you had to hold it just right for it to be loud enough.

Mine does have a slight wobble when closed, but they all do. Mine has never opened by itself, and is nice and tight once it springs open.

I must admit the moment felt very solid... don;t get me wrong im not saying the phone is god awful... i would take it over my touch pro any day.
the hero just feels like its a little more refined. and i have little faith in samsung support after the the a920 and the rant
but seriously the moment isnt as bad as either.

What I don't like about the moment I tested at the store was the keyboard layout. I don't like how the last alpha row is split up by the space bar. For a touch typist, the layout is awkward.

It is at first, but the general consensus is that its not so bad that it's a deal breaker. Most users adjust quickly, within hours, of getting the phone. I thought I would hate it at the store, but after using it for only an hour I found myself typing faster than I ever had on a virtual KB.

I consider it only a minor issue, if one at all.

After a day or so you get used to it i didn't like it at first but once i got used to using it the keyboard don't bother me at all i actually like it alot now just took me a full day of use to get used to it, but all phones keyboards take me a minute when i 1st get em.

Moment has a digital compass, download 3D Compass fom the Android Market for verification.

Moment does have a compass but its about as worthless as a fart in a blizzard... so is the gps... samsung pretty much nerfed all things location based on this phone... i miss the screen though :( and the qwerty

at this point, the only people worth complaining to about the keyboard are the ones at Samsung. You're either going to want the phone and adapt or deal with on screen typing. I touch type and adapted within a day or two. Seriously, as long as the keyboard is decent enough to type on, you'll adapt quickly, probably more so as a touch typist than a person who hunts and pecks.

Hmm... I have had no problem with either using MyTracks from google to log my running routes. In fact, I would go as far as to say I like the compass on my Moment more than I did the one on the Hero (which I had for a month). If I spin around in a circle at a slow pace while using MyTracks, the little cursor that follows me follows my movements on screen smoothly, where as with hero was always a bit lagged. The same can be said for 3D Compass. And if you are refering to the accuracy of the compass, I am not expecting a superior, marine navigation accurate compass, this one works and is accurate enough to please me.

The only thing I wish for is A-GPS, like Hero has. Though that can, and most likely will, be adressed in an update as it is simply because Android 1.5 doesn't support A-GPS over CDMA. HTC implemented a work around for Hero. So once Moment is A-GPS enabled I can see at as being equal to, possibly better than Hero GPS.

I played with both and ended up with the Moment. I really felt it's form factor fit me better.

But this battery thing is pissing me off. I can get the phone to stay on for 24 hours....but after 3-6 hours, the thing drops down to less than 15%, so...the display dims, the keyboard loses it's lights. And this is with very minimal use.

I can drain it dead, charge it, get a 100% reading on the battery and unplug from the charger and it drops immediately to 90%. This is really bothering me now. I am not happy using a crippled phone 3/4 of the time I want to use it.

I don't have trouble with GPS but I do think the alarm clock stinks, something is wrong with Pandora...all kinds of little quirks that have me going back for a look at the Hero before the 30 days is out.

I'm sorry to hear that, masbirdies. It is in the end, about what the user prefers.

I can hardly type with my thumbs with either phone, I definitely can't touch type on the hard keyboard.

I was horrified when I read in the reviews about the space bar, and the a being to the right of the z but once I really thought about it, I can't keep my eyes off the keyboard on my curve either. And although the number key row may not justify it in itself having lots more 2 button symbols (alt then blue) I'm sure will. The function keys on the number row are almost all standard qwerty number upper case, so that makes it much easier than the hero right there.

Not to mention when surfing the web if there is a need for data input you won't lose half your screen in landscape.

It only took me about a half hour to get used to the palm graffiti, I'm sure it won't take more than 5 minutes of use to get used to the samsung hard keyboard.

I have a hero for now (best buy didn't have a moment demo) but going for the moment tomorrow. After 10 days, the hero's keyboards are still really awkward and I don't think that's going to change unless I lose a lot of weight in my fat fingers!

I wish some manufacturer would be truly adventurous and put a dvorak keyboard on a cell. I think on a cell the format would truly shine and quickly gain acceptance. I just found one on the marketplace, I'll try that before returning the hero.

*edit: Probably due to sense the dvorak available on the market place won't launch on my hero.

Speak for yourself. While I can type okay with the virtual keyboard, I really really like having a physical keyboard.

People who think everyone should be like them should think twice.
