So do I return my iPhone 4?

So here's my delima, I have an iPhone 4 and had a 3GS. Loved the 3GS after it was jailbroken. The iPhone 4 has MANY issues including not having a jailbreak yet ( I know its coming). So my 30 days is up in a few days.

I love the hole Android open world (having tried the Droid from Verizon but coverage was an issue) so has ATT locked this phone down? Also am hesitant for a few other reason:

1. Lack of cases
2. Comments about the phone feeling cheap.
3. My past Android experiences with 1.6 and syncing with Exchange 2007
4. Comments about having issues connecting with a Mac
5. Lack of Googles Map app that was amazing on the original Droid.

Any thoughts would be helpful.

FYI: I believe Android is the future just wish the software was progressing faster.

I had the iPhone for 3 years, and had the chance to get the 4(I work for AT&T). I was bored of the iOS, and picked up the Captivate. I love it so far!

And yes, it is locked down, so you can't install non market apps, but a simple Root of the device fixes it.

The Mac issue has been addressed -
Can't get Mac to recognize Samsung captivate - BlackBerry Forums at CrackBerry.com

Captivate works just fine with Maps.

As far as the device feeling cheap, I don't think so. It's the right size, and fits in my hand fine.

I'd say give up the iPhone and try something new.

I agree, Ive had every iphone since the beginning and ios was beginning to get rather boring. Not regretting my first switch to android at all!

I jumped from the 3GS to this and it's amazing...

Couple things I've noted.

Lack of accessories, on one hand yes, cases will be hard to come buy for a few weeks, but other than that and a dock it's micro usb so accessories are easy. AT&T had 2 cases available when I got my phone, I'm a Seidio fan so I didn't get one.

I'm new to android and don't use mac so I can't speak to your other comments. I can say the screen is phenomenal and with a few tweaks it flies. However, it needed a few tweaks. First I rooted it. Then installed LauncherPro Beta to get past Touchwiz which is horrible. It slowed the phone down alot. I've also applied the hack to be able to load non market apps so I'm not pretty happy with it.

As far as cheap, it's extremely thin and light. I mean I was suprised by how thin and light it was, so I think this is the cheap feeling their talking about. It definately doesn't seem like it's been made cheap to me.

I was somewhat concerned about build quality going it, given all the comments, but now that I have it the phone feels just fine to me. Nice, even.

I'm not sure what features you think Google maps is missing on this vs droid? I haven't used it much, but it seems to have everything there. If you are concerned about not having it at all, rest assured - it even comes preloaded!

Can't speak to your other issues.

google maps with google navigation are preinstalled. I bet you read that boygeniusreport review that said Google nav wasnt loaded on it. It is, I even have an icon for it

Anyways, I've used every iphone since the first. Tried out i4, but was hugely bored with the non-innovation of iOS.

Returned the i4, and bought the captivate. Liking it so far. Only gripe is that it feels too light. I like some heft in my phones

I left my iPhone 4 for the Captivate. I am very happy with the decision.

I never was a big Apple fan until the original iPhone came out due to a lot of reasons. The iPhone was always great for me, until the 4. Then when they decided to handle the obvious "hold it till your call drops" issue by basically saying "take the free case, or return it and GFY" it affirmed my beliefs that Apple truly doesn't give a crap. They know everyone will buy the next one anyway, and then they can tout the iPhone 5 as having a "much improved antenna" as a selling feature. Screw you, Steve Jobs. Good thing the iPhone isn't the only competent game in town. I love my captivate.

My wife just got a captivate today, I got the 4 like 3 weeks ago. Based on a day of comparison, I'd say the iphone's screen, camera, and especially web browser win out. However, I love how customizable android is, that you can use it as a portable storage device, and the inclusion of google nav. I'm still pretty torn actually.

Wait, do you mean that Touchwiz slowed the phone down a lot or that LauncherPro Beta slowed it down?

I took my iPhone 4 back because of the proximity sensor issue. Tired of face malfunctions (hanging up, muting, texting, conferencing, emailing) while attempting to talk to people. I almost threw the sucker it was so bad one day. I have been getting bored of iOS4 as well. The final death knell was the Exchange bug that was killing the Exchange 2003 server I run at my work. Over 100+ hour work week because of them and I am salaried so don't get paid for it. Damn iPhones... Makes it hard to work on our Exchange 2010 upgrade.

So far no Exchange major sync issues, except for one old recurring calendar reminder for my timecard. I think recreating it will fix that. I have two exchange accounts syncing at the moment.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I've had a 3gs since release day last year and love it. I ordered a iP4, had it for 3 weeks and it's on the way back to apple now. There were so many problems with it. The little press conference they had Friday where SJ basically said FU to all of his customers was the last straw.
When apple resets my upgrade date, I'm going to get the Captivate. The more I read about it and the little bit of hands on I've had with it has made me want it.
I don't care about a case. That was one of my problems with SJ giving out cases instead of fixing the problem (it was a band-aide for only 1 problem).

Fro an Android forum these replies have been really nice. No one mentioned that you can get the Captivate for free from Wal-Mart.com (Letstalk) and no one mentioned that unlike the I4, no Android device requires Duct Tape to actually work :D

If the Dell Streak wasn't rumored to be out tomorrow, I would get a Captivate just to play with for a month but don't want to deal with the return process (done it one time years ago).
