I confirmed this works tonight. I generated a QR code with all of my work contact information included. I them emailed that image to my friend who has a G1. He installed the barcode scanner app. All he did was open that app, and point the camera at his monitor with that image in the email. It almost instantly popped up with all of my contact info. Badass. We are trying to get our marketing dept. to order our new business cards with them printed on them!

Sidenote, my other friend downloaded a barcode scanner to his iphone (2g) and it also read the QR code.

Very cool.

Amazonca barcodes on the market reads QR codes with no problem. Didn't even know it did that until I pointed it at one. Very, very cool. Even will put contact info right into your address book.

Generate your own QR code to be scanned in as a contact here: http://www.quickmark.com.tw/En/diy/?qrVCard. Pretty cool.
I guess that makes it more useful than Barcode Scanner, which kinda sucks.

I don't like how Amazonca automatically searches Google for the info it reads in though. Or am I just the unlucky one this is happening to?

Amazonca and barcode scanner seem to be very, very similar. Yeah, I don't like how Amazonca goes straight to google, kinda a pain in the butt. I do like how you can add info to the barcode database with it, however. I'll probably be using BCS for most QR code stuff though. Nice change on your QR, BTW. :D

Also found http://urlmin.com. It's a url shortening service that also generates QRCodes that link to the shortened content.

It needs to be noted that Amazonca is just a near-complete copy of Barcode Scanner, which is the plain-vanilla client that comes with the open-source zxing barcode library from Google. The developer actually just forgot to remove QR Code scanning!

Barcode Scanner scans QR Code, (soon DataMatrix), UPC-A/E, EAN-8/13, Code 39 and Code 128. So, no, it definitely does QR Codes. In fact if you tried that you might think it was less sucky.

zxing powers CompareEverywhere and ShopSavvy too. So, Barcode Scanner is the original here if anything is. CE and SS built far richer comparison shopping functionality on top of 1D scanning. I am sure more interesting 2D barcode apps are on the way.

Anyone take any notice of the terms and permissions for barcode scanner? That sucker wants your personal information and your browsing history and bookmarks!

No thanks.

Yeah, I'm just looking for a basic, off-line QR scanner, don't want all the whistles and bells.

By-the-way, avoid Google Goggles, accounts for 90% of my battery consumption even when I don't use it!
