Word of the day: Sarah Palin invents 'refudiate'

Sarah Palin Sarah Palin has brought the word 'refudiate' into the world.

The word "refute" was already one of the most misused in the English language, even before Sarah Palin came along.

Now the possible next president of the US has taken incorrect use of the verb to new a level by mangling it into a whole new word

And from comic Andy Borowitz:

Palin Says Refudiate Appears in Fictionary

Calls Critics Incohecent

palin.jpg
WASILLA (The Borowitz Report) – Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin today defended her use of the word “refudiate,” telling her critics, “Look it up in the fictionary.”

While claiming that “refudiate” is a real word, she reserved her right to make up new words in the future.

“Everyone makes up words – Shakespeare, George W. Bush, Levi Johnston,” she said. “The only person I know who doesn’t do it is my husband Todd, who doesn’t speak.”

Gov. Palin also lashed out at those who criticized her use the word “refudiate,” calling them “incohecent.”

In a related story, Gov. Palin would defeat President Barack Obama if she ran in 2012, according to a poll published in Mayan Prophecy Weekly. More here.

what is this I don't even...

please stop Sarah, just stop.

Also what is this supposed to mean?

it's called a sense of humor......try to find yours some time.

(and I dont even like Sarah Palin, but what people make into news sometimes is just nuts....Obama cant go on vacation because that would keep him from cleaning up the oil spill(?) and Palin can't use some self-deprecating humor after she screws up.....)

I'm tired of both sides of the aisle attempting to discredit each other with stupid nonsensical crap.

Ah, the reason I try to refrain from posting in Politics and Current Affairs. Sorry I offended.

Humor is fine, but it wasn't until the very end that Palin decided humor was her salvation. The woman is a ninny.

*Every* politician/public speaker goofs up the language from time to time. Palin seems to be the expert at it.

i think she's the perfect spokesperson for her fans and followers.

"I think on a national level your Department of Law there in the White House would look at some of the things that we've been charged with and automatically throw them out." --Sarah Palin, referring to a department that does not exist while attempting to explain why as president she wouldn't be subjected to the same ethics investigations that compelled her to resign as governor of Alaska.

I like that one better.

"[T]hey're in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom." --Sarah Palin, getting the vice president's constitutional role wrong after being asked by a third grader what the vice president does.

Like Democrats don't care about Obama's birth certificate or college transcripts as much as Republicans, Republicans don't care if Sarah Palin is a complete moron (I think there's been books written about it, too) as long as she's willing to push a straight-ticket agenda.

Does anyone really care what Sarah Palin posts on her Twitter? Can she not have a personal life, or a screw up, and then humble herself afterward? For ****s sake man, the fact that you even posted this is just as stupid, if not more, than the original twitter mix-up.

Mrs. Palin inserts herself into many political arguments and discussions, and therefore opens the door for commentary on her remarks.

To paraphrase Harry S Truman, if Mrs. Palin can't stand the heat, she should stay out of the kitchen.

I don't see why we can't just laugh about it and move on (like Joe Biden's on-air f-bomb), rather than blow it up into some big deal. Yes, Palin is an idiot and a hypocrite. Is her twitter news? IMO, no.

We can't because we (as in they) are trying to practice a large scale character assassination on the conservative movement as a whole by singling out individuals and applying their bloopers to the rest of us in form of a generalization. IMO it's the single biggest reason liberal talk radio isn't self sustaining...there is no substance to their critique. Frankly, the left has become so loquacious they forget what they are trying to accomplish and instead continue to bloviate for the shear pleasure of hearing their own voice.

A blooper typically is a momentary and inadvertent misstatement. Mrs. Palin, like any public speaker, makes her share of bloopers. But she also specializes in deliberate, anger-provoking misstatements that have virtually no basis in fact, and like the demagogue she is, she repeats them over and over. Sometimes she gets caught doing this and it bites her in the ass...as it should.

The other chief spokespersons for the GOP, Limbaugh and Beck, are also demagogues.

And you just have to love the latest member of the fraternity, the Tea Party Express dude. Sheesh. If the "conservative movement" is taking a rap for its spokespersons, it is a deserved rap. The "movement" has some of the most slime-laden spokespersons and "leaders" this side of the sewer.

The sad thing is, there are some rational, believable thinkers on the conservative side, but since they aren't media circus clowns, you don't hear much of what they have to say. Bill Buckley's magazine used to represent the high water mark of conservative thought even when Bill himself went off the deep end. Now, the magazine is a rag, its pages full of the writings of hate-driven rabble-rousers. It's too bad the conservative movement's responsible thinkers don't push back against the demagogues, but...everyone seems afraid of Rush.

Easiest is to just turn someone's name into a verb.

Palinism-To misuse words, make a poor general statement, or fail to capture the acceptable embodiment of an idea in a few sentences.

Obamanism- To change the constitution and bully people to get your way and further your own career.

I'm sorry I just awoke out of my 3 year slumber. Since illegal warrantless wiretaps... what part of the constitution changed?

And while ur at it what opposition party could be so weak to let one man bully himself to commander in chief?

Just curious :)

OK, I should rephrase not changed just ignored. The easiest, current, and one of the most controversial would be the requirement to carry health insurance.
Since when has the constitution stated that it is fine for the government to tell consumers what they must own. Perhap's FDR changed policy when he was in office pressing his "New Deal." Not to get into awhole other argument, this the bill does have some good points. Like allowing small businesses to get together to get lower premiums.

A lot of underhanded things happened and are happening as well as a lot of nothing (note any approval poll). The president himself stated that he would "force" thing to go his way. To name one, he did state that any medical personel refusing to perform abortions based on religious or moral views could be fired. Also, check his responses to the guy in charge of Louisiana regarding the whole BP incident. He has blocked every attempt made to fix the problem in that state. If this is not bullying or forcing, I do not know what is.
Based on what I have seen so far, I can only speculate as to what was done during elections.
Perhaps, you have some examples as to what he did not do to bully his way?

Does that not bother you? Doesn't it bother you that you are so unconvinced of the persuasiveness of your own preferences and the effectiveness of your own endorsed policies that you are wishing for the weakest competition you can think of because you are scared that someone with half a brain, an iota of competence or relevent experience, or maybe simply an ability not to say stupid things could actually beat your guy? Geez, not exactly a ringing endorsement for Obama or his policies. Obama went from the second coming of Abe to "I hope Sarah Palin runs against him so we can winz and keepz our precious."

This TEAM RED/TEAM BLUE mentality really just makes me wanna vomit.

My hopes for Palin's success in seeking the nomination has nothing to do with a feeling that Obama might not be re-elected, and everything to do with my belief that the GOP truly deserves Palin as its standard-bearer. I also hope to see Michelle Bachman, Glenn Beck and some tea party types closely aligned with that ticket.

No offense my friend but you talk as if what Obama did was somehow the end of the world. . . I'm no Obama "d" riders but let me respond if I may. . .

First, democratic congressional representatives forced people to require health insurance. . .not Obama. You can vote anyway you damn well please. . .unfortunately even against the will of your constituency (hence the oxy-moron of democracy in general and the electoral college).

I cannot argue with the merit of your accusation b/c it's absolutely true. Congress did force people to require health insurance. . . but point your fingers in the right direction. Congress voted, not Obama. Universal health care which I'm sure was what I heard Clinton and Obama campaign on is well universal, required, total coverage, everyone,...etc. So no one should be surprised. Maybe unhappy, because the person who advocated your views lost the election, but not surprised.

I like people to be neutral and honest in their assessments. I don't know what I think until I've heard someone of the opposite, logical view's side. I don't like to argue on a partisan basis. So with that said I'm getting the feeling you're either railing on Obama b/c you think he's a liberal, socialist, who want to take the country from real Americans (white people, and those with money) and give it to lazy blacks and border crossing illegals. . . or you're railing on Obama b/c you have a legitimate opposition and a strict view of the language in the constitution.

If the later is correct, I understand why you're upset. However if that makes you upset, I'm sure the government requirement for car insurance, tags, inspections, social security numbers, ....etc. makes your angry. I'm also sure warrant-less wiretaps (without a partisan congressional vote in the light of day at least) makes you furious. Myself, I tend to find the government's spying, recording, and tapping the communications of its own citizens at free will and discretion with no transparent oversight more "controversial" and in need of a 'teaparty' than the government requiring health care for my daughter.

As for him forcing people to be fired for not performing abortions. . . uhhh yea. I don't agree with abortion, not at all, not a bit. However, last time I checked pro-choicers won Roe vs. Wade not lost. So... if you're a employee under the guidelines of the federal law. . . I think it's possible you can be fired if you don't follow it. If we're in Fallujah and we say ah you know. . . I don't agree with this war. This is illegal occupation. I don't think I feel like fighting today, I'm Buddhist. I think you'll find yourself court marshaled on charges of being absent without leave. Should it be that way. . . that's a arguement for lawmakers and the SC. . . but the President ordering court marshals for that situation and firings for those refusing abortions is not somehow irregular. I think "weed" should be legalized . . .but at the same time I finding it "irregular" that the POTUS would order the Fed. not to pursue medical marijuana cases. I agree with what Obama did morally.. . but I think at the same time legally it is absolutely wrong.

I think I've blabbered on long enough. . but as for the President "forcing" and "bullying" things to happen. . . umm I'm pretty sure that's what he does. He's the President. He doesn't ask for things unless it's a change in law, or something legally defined as in need of approval or designation by congress. The only thing he asks for is the American people's vote to access. . . get this. . . the "bully" pulpit.
