Is there a good program to backup your all your apps, files, shortcuts, bookmarks and personal settings. I know Astro has a "backup" function but I don't know what it actually backs up. I know you can back up your contacts Google.

I guess what I'm asking is if there's a way to "clone" your Droid, not just the SD card.

I think the Android OS automatically backup's your phone data to "The Cloud" (Google Servers)

Use the built in import option under the contacts menu to SD card vfile. App bookmarkbr from
market works great top button backs up, bottom restores. Astro file manager has an app backup in it as well to SD card must have! I used these twice now and worked on HTC hero and Droid, very simple! Hope this helps

Astro backs up Apps you select on the list its under menu, tools, apparently manager backup

Hi,

I am the product manager of MyBackup Pro. This is the #1 Android backup application on the market, and the #3 top paid application.

We are the most complete solution that does the following:

- Supports Android 2.0 (Motorola Droid)
- Backs up the most data
- Option to backup to your SD Card or our secured online servers (cloud)
- Option to schedule a daily or weekly backup
- Have a data viewer that allows you to see the data in a backup without the need to restore it, either on the phone or online web browser from anywhere
- Top of the line customer service 24/7 through support@rerware.com

You can buy it from the Android Market, or on our website at
http://www.rerware.com

Looks like a reasonable option. But I see that it only backs up app data if the app is aware of your program and coded for it. And it does not back up some apps either. So not all my data or phone settings will get backed up. Does your program tell me what it is NOT backing up ? Does it list EVERYTHING (from wallpapers to music to texts)? A backup without knowing definitively what has been skipped is not very useful, and provides false protection. I can deal with skipping some data as long as I know about it.

I am also concerned about lack of encryption. Backed up data should be secured by an encryption password, IMHO this is much more important than being able to see my data on the server.

It appears to me that Google needs to address this issue at the OS level so backups are not tied to the apps cooperation.

FWIW, I checked "Back up my settings", just before I performed a Hard Reset. After the flash completed, the phone "automagically" reinstalled everything (apps, most settings, including ringer)...even down to my wallpaper. You may need to have the global "synch" feature enabled to get it to work.

The only thing I had to "redo" were shortcuts and widgets to the homescreen, but I'm not sure if they would have comback on their own if I had just waited. I also had to re-configure my POP3 info, and contacts, but again, not sure if it would have updated on its own given more time.

+1

Security is my number 1 concern as well. I already feel vulnerable with the phone as it is. Too many appz with push technologies, I never know what's coming or going.

Idealy, I would like to to be able to backup and restore to a certain current state, with apps, setting, data, high scores, etc. on a new or different (Android) device....maybe with just a sd card swap.
