Anyone here try out the Evo first?

I have an Evo now and enjoy the phone, as well as the amount of development for it but I am getting terrible signal in my house and sprint is unwilling to get me the device that would fix this issue despite giving it out to others. In fact a supervisor in retentions told me that it sounded like sprint was not going to work for me and suggested I try another network.

Sorry for the rant, how do you like the vibrant over the Evo?

Alright. I'll try typing this again...

I've never tried an Evo, although I have demoed many other phones in the recent months. What I can say first, though, is that check your coverage with t-mobile. Last thing you want is to be stuck with another carrier with coverage that doesn't work in your location.

Moving forward. Personally, the Vibrant is overall one of the best phones I've ever used (too bad it's my friends). For me, 4 inches of screen is about perfect for a phone. For some 4.3 is where it's at. You have to decide. And if you've never used an AMOLED/SAMOLED device, it will take some time getting used to simply because of the way pixels are rendered with the display technology. So text isn't as sharp as TFT, but images/videos are second to none. It's rumored that the phone's display WILL look high quality, though, with the release of 2.2. Although I don't love the iPhone appearance of the phone, I personally don't mind the feel. It isn't any "cheaper" feeling than my Incredible, which also uses high grade plastic, as does the Evo. Slap a nice rubber case on this phone, and you would never notice it has a slight resemblance to the iPhone.

Sure there is no HDMI out, but DLNA is very capable. As far as FFC, the Vibrant doesn't have one, but the 720p video is actually VERY good for what it is.

I haven't tried the EVO but I did read about a lot of problems with it and I asked some people if they would buy it again given the problems and they said no.

Just off what I've read so far the camera, gpu, processor and storage are all better. To top it off I can get the phone for 99 instead of 199. Hows the reception in your house? In my moderately-small city, my coverage is fantastic. Traveling in between my city to another city like Orlando, Tallahassee, or Miami, if I pass through a really rural zone, my coverage is spotty. So if you travel alot in state, t-mo coverage might not be too friendly for you, at least in my experience.

Don't do a whole bunch of travel except for vacations, and most places I are major metropolitan areas so not worried about that. I will give this phone a try, make sure it has better coverage in my house which is where the problem lies with sprint.

I am not very qualified to speak about the EVO as I only used it for about 5 minutes... but for me first impressions go a long way with a phone.

I really dont think the EVO is that great of a device. I think it feels slow(didn't play with a rooted version) and big compared to the Droid inc. and even the Droid X(so much thinner). For me the Vibrant is superior... screen quality, speed, size, weight, VERY easy to root. The advantages to the Evo are: front cam, 4G, bigger screen. for me the top android phones right now are the Galaxy x phones, the nexus one, and the droid x. but the droid x is my least favorite choice b/c of the locked bootloader.

I think for me its going to come down to the service. Rooting is very easy on the evo so I'm sure I can do it on the vibrant. As long as I can get service in my house I will go with the vibrant.

The evo really isnt all that great. The camera is crap, the "720p" is a bunch of bs, I had to load a rom, different launcher and disable the sense ui, and load a UV kernel to get decent battery life out of it. The GPU is crap....plus there are the QC issues that other have had.

Service has to be the first consideration. Where I live, both T-mobile and Sprint work very well, and the cost is similar, althoughSprint does throw in tv and Sprint navigation free.
I thought that both the Hummingbird and Snapdragon processors would be screaming fast, but I find that my Vibrant lags considerably behind my Evo, so Evo takes it for speed.
While the Evo screen is beautiful, I have to give it to the Vibrant screen for depth of color and clarity.

I have an Evo, and my GF and her brother both got a Vibrant last week on release day. I get much better signal on my Evo than they do (inside the house)

I had an Evo, and switch to t-mobile Vibrant.
I have to say sinal wise, at least for my work location, Evo was much better.
I alway had full 3g and gps signal inside of my office. Maybe thats network problem.
Phone wise, I like vibrant much better, so I am not going back to Evo even if it had much better signal.
I don't use gps inside and use wifi instead of 3g.

had EVo for 2 weeks.. it seemed much faster Market wise.. cuz the Vibrant lags sooooo much in the market.. Evo signal wise i always had 3g .. vibrant shows 0 bars but managed to get a 2485kb/dl speed with 0 bars.. so who knows.. phone build and screen goes to Vibrant.. my EVO's screen was one of those that was coming apart

Both have pluses and minuses. Try vibrant, you will return it if not like it. EVO is ok only in 3g - i've got 3-4 days between charges with light use. But Vibrant is 2-3 times more efficient

EVOs 4G is so far broken, with 4G ON you have to charge EVO daily 1-2 times. You forgot to switch it off manually - the cell is dead brick. Do you switch the cores of your PC processor off manually? EVO needs 4G fix or recall.

I have a Vibrant now for 5 days.

Evo on Sprint:
Pros:
Larger Screen
Kickstand for watching TV/Movies - it's such a little thing, but nice to have.
TV Service included in price
Availability of accessories (I was able to get a neoprene cover same day as purchase)
Solid Build kind of a moot point. The samsung is built nice too.
Overall browsing seemed to be a little faster
Sense UI ... i kinda liked it over the TouchWiz UI.
Faster response, only cause the Vibrant is lagging a bit, for now.
Flash for the camera (Samsung is never going to live this down not having one on the Vibrant)
Suprisingly, Sprint's service came out about 10 dollars a month CHEAPER

Cons:
Horrible Battery Life. (Charge 2-3 times a day with regular use)
Heavy
Bulky, 4.3" screen is nice, but with the neoprene skin, this thing felt so big and heavy in my pocket.
Horrible Battery Life.
Got alot of dropped/interrupted calls on Sprint.
Slow 3G speeds.
And did I mention the horrible battery life? I had to manually turn off all of the antennas to even hope this phone would stay on half the day. 4G is basically useless because you'd have to turn it on or off when you wanted to use it to make sure it didn't kill your battery.

Vibrant:
Pros:
Lightweight & Thin!
Beautiful Screen
Much better battery life, I can make it through a whole day with normal use before I get down to about 30% battery life. This includes playing the SIMs once and a while.
Faster... on Quadrant, it scores much higher than the EVO did.
Faster 3G 3.5Mbps vs .5-.9 Mbps I'd get on the EVO.
I still have alot more to play around with.

But sadly, now with the things that are bugging me about the Vibrant.
Where's my Neoprene skin??? I already dropped and chipped the corner. *sigh*
Camera controls.... kind of harder to use than the Evo. Plus the preview screen doesn't auto-rotate pictures.... am I doing something wrong?
Lag - why does it lag when it's faster than the EVO?
GPS - was an issue, but fixed... should had been fixed before release.
The screen requires you to press a bit harder than the EVO did to get it to respond.
SIMs crashes on me alot when I'm redesigning the room or fish for too long. But that's a software thing.
Power Plug is at the top of the phone. Maybe this is to keep you from making calls while driving or having it plugged in... just seems weird to put it on the top. The little cover is nice, but on the top... really? Weird.

Now my biggest peeve with the Vibrant right now (and I hope they fix ASAP) :
COMPASS - This pisses me off. The compass is SOOOOOO slow. And it doesn't work all that well if you hold it almost straight up and down, which makes using applications like Google Skymaps USELESS. If you hold it above you the compass loses all direction. I really liked using Skymaps, I used it all the time with the EVO.
And because the Compass is messed up, it has trouble with the GPS, always thinking I'm going a different direction. I'll be sitting at a light and it will recalc and say to make a U turn cause it thinks I'm going the opposite way suddenly.

I'm really hoping they come out with some fixes for this stuff, otherwise... I might have to look for something else still. *sigh* I generally like this phone, but I've ended up playing around with it much more than the EVO cause I like the feel and look of it, plus I don't have to keep it plugged in all day long to mess with t.
