ok guys im sure most of this has been covered but have a couple of questions before I proceed...

1. And most important the question of backups... I want to make sure i have a full backup off my phone and want to be able to restore certain parts ( I know you cant reinstall HTC apps) like contacts settings and the like best way?

2. I have Hboot 0.080.000 Is this a problem?

3. Dont want to use the one click method as I have read it makes things a little harder changing roms, if this is true best guide for another method? Been looking at lekky's guide but mentions 075 and below

5. I an currently running 2.1 update one on a unbranded unlocked desire which came from Carphone Wearhouse any pitfalls with this software?

Thanks for reading and any replys...

Int....

1. You can backup apps and settings with mybackup free from the market. If you use Google for contacts and calendar, DO NOT restore them in this app.

Hoot 0.80 is supported. Search for r6 modaco root HTC desire. Will post link later. Follow this guide, then install Rom manager from market. Then you can use that easily to flash any rom. Not sure if this is the best method but it worked for me

should do, check your gmail account on your pc to check they are there. I also do another backup just in case (gmail isn't really a backup). A backup contacts to sdcard is enough for this

Yep, this ^

The only thing is if you restore contacts with mybackup when the set up wizard on the ROM goes through and signs you in, it brings down your contacts from google, then you end up with duplicates. Same for calendars. They can be a pain to get rid of too.

Follow the last part of Lekky's rooting guide:

How To Root Your HTC Desire & Add Apps2SD Nimbu

Namely:

  • Remember to have backed up your normal sdcard before proceeding, as the next step will wipe all data from it.

  1. Turn on your phone while holding the volume down button.
  2. You will see HBOOT on the screen.
  3. Use the volume buttons to move up and down and power button to select the RECOVERY option.
  4. You will now see a red triangle on the screen, at this point plug your phone into your PC via your microUSB cable.
  5. Double click on recovery-windows.bat inside the pushfiles_windows.zipfolder you unzipped as part of the root process.
  6. Using the optical trackpad select Partition sdcard > Partition SD
  7. Select SWAP=0, EXT2=512 and allow the rest to be FAT32.
  8. Select the SD:ext2 to ext3 option in this menu.
  9. Go back to the Recovery Console main menu and select Reboot system now. While rebooting, unplug the Desire from the USB port.
  10. And thats it! You now have a rooted Desire with apps2sd. Get in!

You will need to download:

pushfiles_windows.zip

Pusshfiles, if you haven't got them already. I assume you have though.

i rooted using the unrevoked tool, would i be able to install apps2SD using this method? The A2SD that is in the froyo ROM is useless to me really as none of my apps can be saved to SD card as they're not built to do so. Can i put the Apps2SD on my phone where you force them to SD card?

Thanks
I don'r see why not. I'm about to attempt exaactly that, but just waiting for my Class 6 card to arrive first. I will report back in a few days, if you didn't already work it out by then :) .

The guy who recommend that I use Lekky's method (ManofSteal) said that when he tried with ROM manager, it didnt work properly, so I didnt even try. Lekky's method is really easy.

I dont know of any working methods other than this, but I know it works which is why I stick with it.

Does this method work with rom 0.80 ? coz I've finished all the step and when rebooting (step 9), my htc is freeze in htc logo (doesn't even go to quietly brilliant part)... Since mine is bootloader 0.80, when rooting, I didn't use recovery-windows.bat but when I install app2sd, I use recovery-windows.bat. Is this the cause of the problem???

Thank's

Yes that is exactly what happened to Me. You can't do that. I did the modaco r6 root with generic Rom, installed Rom manager then used that to install modaco 3.1 with a2sd already on it.

Just used lekkys guide to partition SD card. This worked
