I have a few questions on Wifi and Sprint network connection settings.

1. why is wifi less power consumption on battery?

2. If I use a widget to turn on wifi; will it automatically turn off the sprint network (3g / 4g)? Or do I have to turn one on and they other off each time?

3. I tried Y5 at home... I can see it jumping back and forth from wifi and EVDO

dont know if this makes a difference... I have the HERO, but working to get the EVO.

1. Radio signal for wifi is broadcast locally, thus it has a smaller signature/footprint for the receiver to pick up in a matter of feet rather than miles. Basically a phone signal radio works harder than a wifi radio.

2. The main widget (and most purchased apps) will turn off 3G while wifi is in use. You can't use both at the same time anyway. Evo will remember settings and do this automatically.

3. Not sure about that app. The Hero is a good phone, but so many advances have taken place between Hero and Evo that an app alone cannot make up the difference. Enjoy your Hero until times right for Evo or another phone.

Let me try to help. 1.) When transmitting, wifi uses about 1/2 the power that cdma/3g does. Or about 114 milli amps. 2.) In most cases no. If you turn of the 3g radio, you would also turn off the cdma radio. Which mean you could not receive or send phone calls with wifi on. The radio is put into a near sleep state, which is 70 milli amps. When you are not using the wifi radio, it goes into a near zero power state, less then 1 milli amp. 3.)The current software for the htc evo's wifi and wimax is a nightmare right now. Given time it would be its own grandpa. They need to really fix the way the software handles wifi and wimax.

thanks for your response
i am a little confused still.. .

you are saying ... turning off the radio 3G/CDMA ... i will not be able to get calls; because it is the same Radio. Turning one off, turns the over off too.
But I think I can still turn off Network... and still get calls. And the Network is the 3G or 4G part...RIGHT?
