Have had my Galaxy S for about 10 days now but had to switch back to my Desire today as i couldnt take it anymore.
These are the issues ive found.
1-Severe lag, sometimes even a few seconds. I heard all the hype about it being the most powerful phone but what good is it that if the software and hardware dont go together.
2. The phone will not automatically change back to 3g after being on the Wifi.
I have to turn airplane mode on and off to get it to get back the 3g signal.
(Have any of you found this also?) This is so so annoying.
Hope these issues will be fixes soon with froyo or by a Samsung firmware update.
3. Battery life is not good. Maybe better than the Desire but still not good.
4. Unresponsive buttons. again connected with the lag.
Seems Google and Samsung have some work to do .

wow you did all the hard work register just to post this :) anyway... 1. lag yes...but fixable so far. several methods already detailed in xda and modaco 2. could be due to your local telco's poor connection. didnt read too many complains about this. 3. battery get better with more charging cycles. seeing how powerful this guy is, the battery life is pretty ok. 4. like you say, connected with the lag. so, goodbye!

Ok...

1- Mine just doesn't really lag unless I totally push it on purpose which i did after reading your post.
2- It's switches between wifi and 3g smoothly. I don't even notice.
3- Battery life is fine for me but I always have a car charger in case.
4- As above. No real lag.

Before assuming the phone just sucks you could go back to the store or network and get a replacement. Then you can make an informed decision.

Good luck.

you want to see lag? install dolphin HD on the phone and exit the program....LLLLAAAAAGGGGG! My old Acer Liquid with the hacked 2.1 is still the best for responsiveness for switching programs and feel of seemless'ness. too bad it's outdated but if the Liquid can get froyo or ability to act as a wifi hotspot, I'll go back.

no, the lag has no direct relation to 2.1, it is more due samsungs bad memory handling. if you cant stand it just root your phone and apply the fix.

Ok, so if you root the phone, what happens when a new version of the firmware or Android is released?

I had a jailbroken iphone and it was a PITA updating to the latest software - I really can't be arsed going through the rigmorale again.

So unless it is straight forward and doesn't impact apps or setup, then I am happy with a little lag.

If it is okay, can you point me in the direction that tells me how to root the phone and apply "the fix"?

Thanks, Mark
