I ordered my X online so I got it delivered to me last Friday. I immediately noticed that the camera wasn't working properly (possible hardware malfunction) so I called VZW customer/tech support.

They ran through a few fixes none of which worked, and then sent me out a new phone. The replacement phone will be arriving tomorrow.

Does anyone knowledge able about verizon smartphones know if it is likely I will get a refurb or brand new phone back?

I have always had pretty basic phones and nothing has gone wrong enoguh to send in a phone for replacement so I have know clue what Verizon protocol is for tihs sort of thing.

Since they shipped it out so soon after the official release date I can't imagine they would actually have a supply of refurbs yet, so I'm hopeful that it will simply be a new unit.

Thanks guys!

How did you get yours replaced so quickly? Mine was basically dead after 15 minutes and I got my confirmation replacement email Friday at 3:32p.m.

Unfortunately, I got no tracking yet. So I just got off the phone with the TeleSales person who looked in the system and said mine is scheduled to ship on or before Friday 23rd.

I am trying to keep calm and continue to re-assure myself things like this happen. But it really pisses me off that Verizon doesn't even have replacement phones for folks who received bad phones.

The guy apologized and said he completely understood and agreed with me. After all, Verizon ASSURED us they would have plenty of phones and the whole HTC Incredible fiasco wouldn't occur again.

I suggested to him Verizon make this their last smartphone release until they could get their stuff together and stop jerking folks around. He even agreed with that and said the concern had been expressed to the higher ups as well.

Those poor CSR's. They are taking a beating from us angry customers. :)

I'm sure they are tired of it and have tried to express it to the higher ups.

@bennec: I'm not really sure what to say I think I just got lucky. I called csr about 45 minutes after my phone was delivered tops and my call was dropped once mid-service. I patient while they tried to run me through some fixes to no avail.

My luck is probably one of those crap doors verizon seems to be known for with not having a consistent response to anything

ya I think for the 1st 30 days they replace your phone with a new one

ABSOLUTELY CORRECT! I just got off of the phone with Verizon because I have some dead pixels. They are going to overnight me one ASAP (no later than the 27th) and they are billing it to my account. Once I return my defective one they will remove the charge. As long as it is within the 30 days it is GUARANTEED to be new and sometimes even after that you will get a new one....sometimes.

I too am getting a replacement overnighted to me. My X was so laggy and bad that I activated my old storm (man it feels small, but heavy, compared to the X lol). I hope it does not interfere with my replacement being shipped today. I too was charged for the device before they would send it.

Your device will not ship today. There are no devices in the warehouse. The next shipping date is July 27th

waiting on mine which i believe is new because they are charging it to my account until i return the new old one

Ditto here

I received a call back from my Verizon Wireless store today. They told me I would receive my replacement phone on 7/27. I asked them specifically - will it be shipped on the 27th? And he said no, you will receive it on the 27th.

I hope he is right.

Personally, I think they should remove the charge for my first DX from my account while I am unable to use it. :-(

Same thing for me basically. Except I got my phone today, tried activating and it failed, so I went to the store and got it activated, only to find out the camera was broken, and the guy ordered me a new phone. I asked when I should be expecting it, and he said 7/23 - Friday. So I'm hoping I do get it Friday. Hopefully not too many great picture opportunities pop up. :\

I called Verizon directly this morning to verify the shipping date for my replacement phone. Apparently the store misinformed me - it will not be delivered on the 27th, it will be shipped by the 27th. And no it will not be shipped overnight, even though I paid for overnight shipping on my first phone.
And they are charging my account $299.99 until I return the old phone. Even though I only paid $199.99 for the first one. Apparently since I ordered the first phone online, the $100.00 discount was automatically applied, but since I returned it to the VZW store, I have to mail in the rebate.
And VZW requires that you send the old/broken phone from a Fed Ex drop off location. Nearest one to me is 1/2 hour. I cannot return it t the store. More and more frustrated by the moment.

Do you have to pay for shipping or are they covering it? You should be able to schedule a pick-up by FedEx instead of having to drive to the closest store.

i got my replacement ordered a few hours ago. With a tentative ship date of 8/3. I'm fine with that as it actually works for my schedule. The one i have know will get me by till then. But the lady on the phone told me i could take my old one (the current one i have now) to the store i bought it at in order to get the credit for the new one once it arrives. Instead of shipping it back fed ex. I guess this is because i originally got it at the store?

My screen was defective. After 3 days all I had was a bunch of lines through the screen.
YouTube - Day 4 with my new Droid X
I was given a shipment date of the 27th for my exchange X. However, this morning I received a shipping confirmation from Verizon for my phone. I called Verizon to confirm and it was correct. My new X is on its way, and a whole one week early. Thank you Verizon. They have really taken care of me on this one. I really enjoyed my X for the few days that it work so I am really looking forward to picking up where I left off and hopefully I will not have any more issues.

I don't believe that's completely accurate. Some of the Droid Incredible people who received theirs at launch were supposedly getting refurbs within the 30 days.

i remember reading one post stating that i think. There may have been more but i asked again today in the store and they told me during the 30 you get new.....so we'll see. She told me i would be getting a brand new one. Not a FRU, which is also one reason i have to take the original packaging and all back when i take the old one back.

If it comes early i guess that will work but i actually really need it to be at my house between the 3rd and the 6th.
