Root Do I have to unroot to receive the OTA?

Do I need to unroot and/or remove the clock work mod to receive the OTA?

And if so, whats the best method?

Afturburn

Yes, search the forums there are several guides already on how to return your phone to stock.

If you want to keep using ROMS your best bet is to wait till the custom rom makers update their builds to 2.2. (usally only takes a couple days)

an update like the one be planned for the Dinc. very well could break the current method of rooting...

It is my understanding that:

if you rooted (only) - You WILL get OTA and if you install it (OTA) your phone will get the update and all that will happen is you will LOSE root.

If you applied update via download (not OTA) - and then you try to REINSTALL OTA you will likely brick your phone

and if you rooted AND installed other ROMS - you may not get OTA and if you do its anyones guess as to what will happen.

If the above is wrong please feel free to correct but I am fairly confident that is the state of things

Ok...that was my understanding as well. I just wasn't sure about some of the comments I have seen saying otherwise.

...and so the answer is: No, you don't have to un-root to receive an OTA update when you are on the OEM ROM...but you will lose root in doing so.

I could be wrong - but I think the reason for the confusion is I think the unrevoked recovery console applied when you root via the unrevoked package (which replaces stock recovery console) MAY prevent OTA update - I dont know - I rooted the old way and I have not applied the unrevoked recovery console.

I wonder if that's what's going on. I could swear I remember hearing of people who'd used the original method who had unrooted, rerooted and then received the original OTA nag...the one from like week 2 after release?

Yeah, i did the unroot with the PB32IMG.zip routine, rolled me back to way before what mine was before i rooted. Worked great, got the original OTA, but not the New Radio / 720p OTA update. Yeah, 20$ a month for tethering is for people who like to piss money away. I'll sit and wait for the new root plan. I am sure it will be worked out.

Thanks everyone ;) Back to stock.

Tell you what, I am going to re do the PB32IMG.zip routine, and before the radio turns on, i'll do the unrevoked method of root, then see if the orignal OTA comes through and post the results today.

Ok, doing it all again this time w/o the unrevoked in the middle.

I also just received a call from verizon telling me my device was shipped and should be here soon. Thanks, but i already got it.

(i'm gonna brick this thing if i keep effin with it, huh?)

Here are the final results from the last re-image with rooting first and receiving the OTA.

It seems that I have found my answer, and anyoneelse's who is looking for this: Yes, you have to unroot to sucessfully apply an OTA update if you used unrevoked 3 with the clockwork recovery mod. Build and software numbers did not update while i had that installed.

So I will just wait for the update naturally.

Is there a way to capture the update after it downloads?
