Let me start off by saying I'm currently using a Blackberry 8130 (HORRIBLE/OUTDATED PHONE), and am so ready for an upgrade! But anyways, I've been lurking around the site for a couple months checking out upcoming phones, waiting to get the perfect phone I want, (I know no phone is perfect but still...) I was really set on getting the Nexus One, but once they revealed it was only going to be for T-Mobile I said forget that. Then I waited for the Incredible. My girlfriend got it the day before it came out, not really a huge fan of the sense ui, But I can live with it. I was set on getting that phone until I was aware of the shortage they had, So I didn't feel like waiting a month for the Incredible to ship out, when the Droid X would be coming out shortly after I received the Incredible.

So now that the X is here, I really want it, But after seeing some of the threads on the battery, camera, the difficulty of having the X rooted and other small things like google images not letting you select images, the loudness of the speaker as well as the strength of the vibration, I'm hesitant. I know that MOST of the new phones being released from now on will come with a Front facing camera, which the X does not come with. I do understand that the Front facing camera is not really a big deal at all right now because you either have to have 4g, or wifi. But I believe within a year or so It will be mainstream.

So If I did have the Droid X, I would be left in the dust with no front facing camera. All that being said, I am just curious if another phone will be released sometime within this year, besides the moto Droid 2 (Not interested in the Droid 2). I'm not saying I will not get the X because it doesn't have a front facing camera, I'm just saying, I believe that soon it will be a must have feature on cell phones.

Please let me know what you guys think. Any criticism or help is always encouraged!!!

You should go to your Verizon store and use the X, and see how you like it. I feel that the lack of a front facing camera is not a big deal at all. They've been around for YEARS in Europe and Asia, and guess what? Nobody uses them.

I doubt the US will be any different, despite what Apple commercials say.

Another high end Android device that is coming to Verizon soon is the Samsung Fascinate, so you can take a look at that. That too will not have a front camera though.

Also, I suggest breaking your huge block of text into smaller ones. It's a pain to read :p

Ok, thanks for the input, I've checked out the Fascinate, but have heard bad things about Samsung, such as leaving there phones hanging after a year with no updates...(not sure if this is true). Also I'm not a fan of how the Fascinate looks compared to the X. I love the way the X looks, and I will take your suggestion and I'll make a trip down to Verizon and see if they have a Droid X I can fool around on.

Thanks again!

The iPhone has been only out a couple weeks but there have already been more video calls on the iPhone than all cell phone video chats worldwide for all of 2009. Now that's pretty impressive. Although I wouldn't use a frontal camera as a deciding factor on buying a phone. It'll be at least a couple years before enough of your friends have one to be truly useful.

I would chalk that up to iphone users trying video calls for the novelty of the experience, not necessarily because it was convenient. Give it a few more weeks for the shine to come off the apple (pun intended) and you'll see people using the phones like they always did; SMS for quick conversations and voice calls for a longer conversation.

Front facing cameras arent that important now because most of the time you cant use it. Once 4g is out then its a different story but for now its kinda pointless. Samsung is releasing a phone but they are said to have similar reception issues to that of the iphone 4

Yeah, thats basically what I said. Once 4g comes out its going to become mainstream, which will probably be here in less then a year, and that would make the Droid X way behind. Obviously, If I keep waiting, Ill never become satisfied, as I will always be looking for something more...Such hard decisions

Have you looked at the Inc... most of those things besides battery which can be fixed are not a problem.

(google image selection works great. phone is load(speaker)and root.)

really right now your choice with VZ is the Dinc or X.... both great devices.

The X is a solid device and a lot of the "problems" you mentioned were fixed by the OTA update that came out earlier this week. It'll be a long time before you'll be left in the dust with the X, trust me.

And to me, the incredible felt like a toy. IMO the X does a better job for everything important to a phone.

Front facing camera usage IMO will never be main stream. There are countries that have it standard on their land lines and guess what ? it is barley used. Believe it or not most people don't want to stare at the person on the other end of the call. (yeah those lovely commercial look all lovey dove'y don't they?) Do you really want to look at most of the people you call? Do you really want to put on your pants before you can answer the phone. It's more likely use will be for those that want to take off their pants on camera. LOL

That's my .02

I find that VERY hard to believe can you site the source? And even if it's true it just shows how its a gimmick. Of course everyone that has an iphone4 is going to check it out and the fact that no one else in the world uses it shows that the novelty will wear out soon enough. I'd like to see that stat in 6mos.
