Alarm which works even if phone turned off

I am am recent migrant from Blackberry. One of the nice things on the BB was that when you set the alarm, you can switch the BB off overnight and be sure that at the set alarm time, the BB wakes and the alarm goes off.

The alarm on the HTC Desire does not seem to do that - ie when I turned it off overnight it did not wake when the alarm should have gone off.

I tried a couple of other alarm apps and no luck.

Am I doing something wrong? Is there an alarm app for my requirement? Or is this not possible with an Android phone?

In short - no, I don't think this is possible at the moment, which is a shame.

I too much prefer to switch my phone off overnight - I've had to start using my bedside alarm clock again :-(

So I set my alarm for this morning and before going to sleep set the phone to silent.

Alarm did not go off (ie I slept through). Or did it go off but the "Silent" setting overrode it? Weird and not very intuitive.....

I am using the Droid/HTC standard clock/alarm.

Get the SoundManager app off of the market. Free and it allows you to control all aspects of the sound. Mute all but the Alarm and voila, you're set.

I've got to agree with Akalatengo, there isn't a need to turn off the phone.

Actually there is plenty of need to turn off the phone, especially at night. Many people here want to get full use of their battery so they choose to bump charge it which requires you to turn your phone off. Most people charge their phone overnight meaning that many people in this forum turn their phone off at night.

How much of a real-world difference does charging the phone that way make? My Slide can make it through a 16 hour day of pretty good use without being plugged in. Are some phones just that under powered battery-wise to make bump charging the difference between making it through the day or not?

If you still have your BB, just continue to use that alarm. :D

not a bad thought .... but i do want to sell it

this morning set the alarm (both on the clock and on the Sound Manager) - did not turn phone off.

Alarm didn't go off and I slept through  - I don't understand why something that simple is so difficult to make work.....

Only makes a difference if you have an HTC Incredible which doesn't manage it's charge properly.

I would much rather turn my phone off at night and have the ability for it to turn on when my alarm is supposed to go off in the morning. I don't want to be charging my phone all night and there are times when I don't have access to a charger and my phone goes through heavy use, so, saving that battery while it is off makes a difference.

IDK about other phones but on the Moto Droid when you put the ringer on silent the alarm still goes off. Notifications and calls are silent.
